As the scattered remnants of Alexandria and Team Rick move on once again in The Walking Dead episode 6.08, Start to Finish, where are we? More to the point, viewers of The Walking Dead: where are you? Are you still on board with this crew, or not? After a wildly uneven half season, I find myself on the side of “not.”

As the hour starts, the tower has fallen on the walls. (We’ll never know why.) Everyone’s running for shelter, Deanna’s wounded, and creepy Ron is sort of pretending to look as stunned as everyone else, though he just seems disappointed. You can see how badly he’d wanted to shoot someone. Continue reading »

Let’s get this out of the way: The Walking Dead episode Heads Up wastes no time showing us that Glenn is alive. In a survival escape so unbelievable that only the Sexy Pizza Geek of the Apocalypse could pull it off, Glenn actually slides from beneath Nicholas’ body to the underside of the nearby Dumpster, which appears to have a clearance of about seven inches, and is safe there. That is some Houdini stuff, and also? No zombies, no matter how decomposed, can get in there! Continue reading »

The Walking Dead Recap: 606, Help

Nov 16, 2015

What is it about this show? Does it seem to anyone else that it messes with us, or am I just an unusually delicate person? Because that last second of Always Accountable … not cool, TWD. Not cool at all. And what’s odd is that for a while, I did get to thinking, Hey … this […]

Don’t adjust your browsers. A walker did not get into the title, don’t worry. That’s just The Walking Dead episode 6.05, Now, dragging its zombie foot around on my last damn post-apocalyptic nerve. Now is not only not my least favorite episode of season 6: It actually reminds me of season 2, what with all […]

The Walking Dead Recap: 604, The Art of Peace

Nov 3, 2015

In what is almost certainly the olive-branch episode of Season 6, The Walking Dead takes a big step back from the horrifying end of last week’s episode for some backstory on where in the ruined world Morgan found his soul. Here’s Not Here is a lovely episode, beautifully shot and acted, and I was grateful for it. […]

The Walking Dead Recap 603: Thanks for Nothing

It’s hard to write a recap of a show when you’re really, really mad at it. I’m a nice person (nice people get taken by not-so-nice TV shows sometimes!), so we’ll keep this polite – but if The Walking Dead did what I think it did in Thank You, it might be over between us. […]

The Walking Dead Recap 602: In the Company of Wolves

Oct 19, 2015

In the internal argument I have with myself about what would be worst about the apocalypse (scheduled, postponed, and rescheduled often since my childhood), I usually come to the same conclusion: it’s grief. This was my conclusion last week, when a horn went off near Alexandria, interrupting the Zombie Parade. It’s Deanna, I told myself. […]

The Walking Dead 601 Recap: Where’s My Parade?

Big apologies to Anne B–this recap first ran as authored by me. Totally a software error! –Deborah It’s a new season of The Walking Dead, and our walker friends are staggering through a changing world. They’re more nuisance now than nightmare, downgraded from the constant threat of season 1 to an infestation. In First Time […]

The Walking Dead Recap: Come At Me

Mar 30, 2015

The fifth season of The Walking Dead doesn’t end in any of the ways I thought it would. In Conquer, the people of Alexandria do not end up turning on Rick, or vice versa; Michonne does not take control of either the survivor group or Alexandria; and Daryl and Aaron do not stay out in […]

The Walking Dead Recap: You Know Why

Mar 23, 2015

In the newly divided Alexandria community, the roles determine the rules. We see this clearly in The Walking Dead episode Try: Deanna, a lawmaker long after the death of law, is the one who builds the social order. Rick and Michonne enforce it — up to a point. And the one surgeon? Apparently, vicious Pete […]

The Walking Dead Recap: We’ve Lost Things

Spend is a Walking Dead episode that asks some tough questions. What kinds of loss are the hardest? What’s worse: to suffer your first real loss, or add fresh losses to a long history of suffering? And what are the degrees of pain involved in losing someone you love? Your idea of yourself? Your mind?

The Walking Dead Recap: Forget — I’m Good

Mar 9, 2015

There’s so much going on in the suburbs! Between neighborhood watch, recipe discussions, and scaring the hell out of sneaky neighborhood kids, there’s no time to grieve for what you had before — even if it was everyday combat with zombies. Rick Grimes certainly seems to miss the walkers. There he stands, in the last […]

The Walking Dead Recap: Out There
