Full review of the Falling Skies Season Finale will be up on Monday, August 15. Sorry for the delay, a two-hour episode came at a really bad time in my schedule.
“The battle…is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave.”
— Patrick Henry, as quoted by Tom Mason in Eight Hours
In its two-hour season finale, Falling Skies continues to be everything I love to watch on TV, and everything I hate about TV, and I continue to land squarely on the center of the fence. Which can hurt.
Falling Skies: Episode 6 (Sanctuary Part 2) and Episode 7 (What Hides Beneath)Aug 1, 2011 Sorry for taking a week off from my Falling Skies blogging. Let’s get caught up. Sanctuary Part 2 was a lackluster episode. I don’t think it was chock-full of any exceptionally stupid OMG SCRIPT! moments, but it lacked oomph. It shouldn’t have–there were unexpected deaths, heroic rescues, near misses, daring escapes, yet it all felt [...] |

Falling Skies Episode 5: Sanctuary Part 1Jul 19, 2011 This episode was not what I expected it to be, and this series is not what I expected it to be. Despite one absolutely terrible episode (#3), and one mediocre one (#2), this is turning into something special. And yes, they could still blow it. “They” blew Heroes, didn’t they? But right now, Falling Skies [...] |
Falling Skies Episode 4: Silent KillJul 13, 2011 What a difference a week makes! This week’s episode, while not without its flaws, was some slammin’ good television. I am genuinely glad I gave it that one week ultimatum last week, because wow. Spoilers ahead: |
Falling Skies Episode 3: GraceJul 4, 2011 Ugh, this was bad. The two things that stood out as dumbest about last week’s episode were (1) Letting Pope loose to cook, and (2) leaving the Skitter unguarded. So now we have an entire episode premised on maintaining those two stupidities. The constant low-level aggravation of this made the cool things less cool (sleeping [...] |
Falling Skies Episode 2: Prisoner of WarJun 28, 2011 This is working out well! Okay, there are definitely still a couple of stupid and cliché parts, but TV does two things wrong these days: First, it tells you absolutely everything up front, so you don’t have to pay attention (Body of Proof), and second, it tells you absolutely nothing, thinking that leaving you guessing [...] |
Falling Skies: PilotJun 26, 2011 Well, nothing to watch on Sunday nights right now. I was a fan of V, but wasn’t blogging it, largely because it sucked. I guess that makes me not much of a fan: It had potential, it had Morena Baccarin, and it had a whole lot of stupid. Falling Skies seems a little bit like [...] |
