Known for many years as a heavy drinker, his drinking finally became out of control in August of 1962, when he was let go from Sterling Cooper. He dried out and attends Alcoholics Anonymous, along with Cal Rutledge of Ponds. He brought the Ponds account to Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce in December 1964.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the Signal Corps after a frontline position in which he killed 15 Germans.
Has a cousin who works at General Mills.
Has a cat.
Father sold Hallmark cards. The family moved frequently.
