Okay, talk about dresses, talk about Lupita, talk about who you think will win or who you wish would win.

There are 122 nominations, and I’ve seen 58 of them. I’ve seen 7 of 9 Best Picture nominees. Snowstorms on movie night thwarted our effort to see all 9.

Of course, that’s a lot of repeat films, the total number of films nominated is 42 full length plus 10 shorts. I’ve seen 12:

American Hustle
Captain Phillips
Dallas Buyers Club
12 Years a Slave
The Wolf of Wall Street
20 Feet From Stardom
Saving Mr. Banks
The Hobbit 2: The Desolation of Smaug
Iron Man 3
Before Midnight

My predictions after the jump.
Best Picture, I’m going with 12 Years a Slave
Acting: McConaughey, Blanchett, Leto, Nyong’o
Directing: Cuarón
Documentary: 20 Feet From Stardom

  1. Does anyone know the significance of the black ribbons tonight?

  2. Well, we didn’t exactly get a chat going here, but I got 100% on my predictions, so there’s that.

  3. All the favorites won, including Best Picture.
No surprises (like, Marisa Tomei, or Mira Sorvino.)
Gravity was actually the best film. But, we know there is a rule at the Academy prohibiting the actual best film from winning.
    This is a recording…………..

    • tilden, there wasn’t a single Oscar predictor who was sure what the Best Pic would be. It was a three-way lock between Gravity, 12 Years, and American Hustle, with American Hustle considered somewhat an underdog.

I saw 7 of the 9 nominees and thought the best picture won. I thought Gravity deserved all its technical awards. But really, I’m not a Cuaron fan. I thought the same of Gravity as I thought of Children of Men–well made, with wonderful moments, but heavy-handed and preachy.
