Thanks for stopping by during our Holiday Season Fundraiser. I cannot believe 2011 is almost over–and not a single new Mad Men episode. It’s a wonder we survived.
As we are in the thick of the thickening season and all its festivities, I thought it would be fun to take a look at some memorable Mad Men dinner scenes. Let me know if you think of any others! (and I assure you, you will, as I am not including every time anyone had dinner.)
Season 1
Ladies Room–At a restaurant with the Sterlings and the Drapers. Awkward.
Red in the Face–Don brings Roger home for dinner. Betty is now a vegetarian.
The Hobo Code–Salvatore and Elliott at the Roosevelt Hotel.
Season 2
For Those Who Think Young–Don and Betty have Valentine’s Day dinner at the Savoy.
The Benefactor–The Drapers, the Schillings and the Barretts dining at Lutèce. Not one person around that table is privvy to the full scope of what is happening.
Three Sundays–Sunday dinner in Brooklyn, with the new priest, no less! So fancy.
Three Sundays–And on the third Sunday, Bobby Draper causes a spill at the dinner table, and quite a stir.
The Gold Violin–Salvatore and Kitty provide a home-cooked meal for Ken. With lots of sub-text.
A Night to Remember–Frankly, this was the episode that inspired this post. As long as I live I’ll remember what Betty wore as the gracious hostess, and for what seemed like days to come.
The Jet Set–the exotic Mexican meal and a game of “Places”.
The Mountain King–that poor roast chicken never had a chance.
Season 3
Out of Town–Don and Sal, somewhat incognito, have dinner at Haussner’s in Baltimore with two stewardesses and a pilot.
Love Among the Ruins–The Drapers and the Pryces dine out in Manhattan.
My Old Kentucky Home–Joan creates the perfect dinner party. Of course.
Season 4
Public Relations–Thanksgiving dinner at Mother Francis’.
The Chrysanthemum and the Sword–Don and Bethany have hibachi at Benihaha.
The Summer Man–Don and Bethany and Betty and Henry at Barbetta.
Tomorrowland–Don takes Megan and the kids to a drive-in diner, and is visibly moved by Megan.
Now make sure you go have some wonderful meals, and that you remember why it is you get together in the first place.
We thank you, Basketcases, for the love. And the donations.

This is the newest thread that references Henry Francis, albeit obliquely, and I bumped it just so I could say this:
I think about the name repetition and overlap sometimes, and today it occurred to me that Henry Francis might also be known as Hank Frank.
I crack myself up.
