During our Basket of Kisses Fundraiser (woo!) we’re walking through some of our blog’s features and seasons and cool stuff like that. Today I thought we could stroll through a few of the many movie reviews we’ve published.

Some reviews are of movies featuring Mad Men stars, like Jon Hamm in The Town and Howl, or John Slattery in The Adjustment Bureau.

Some are blockbuster see-it-in-theaters movies, like Inception, Super 8, or Captain America: The First Avenger.

Some are both.

We have lots of great Basketwriters! Here’s reviews by Anne B, MarlyK, and Matt Maul.

Personally, I love the occasional documentary or indie.

  1. Now that I have finally seen The Town, I can read your review (just did and enjoyed it)! I didn’t want to peek at it the first time around because I figured it would spoil it for me too much.

I did peek at Anne B.’s review of “Bridesmaids” the first time around, because I figured with a movie with that, any “spoilers” would be mild. However, now that I have seen the movie (rented it a few weeks ago) I enjoyed reading her review anymore.

Overall, I really prefer reading reviews after I’ve seen the movie. It’s partly about spoilers, but also because if I have seen it, I have my own perspective and can read the review and think ‘Yes, I see what you’re talking about,’ or in some cases, ‘No, I didn’t see it that way.’

    • Thanks, Mad Chick!

I saw “Bridesmaids” again after I wrote the review. The second viewing was with my mom, husband, and siblings in the week my Dad was dying; we were all spending full days at hospice, and the family was split between wanting to see it a second time and wanting to see it for the first time. Easy choice!

That movie gave us all exactly the break we needed in a very sad week. I love everyone involved in it, for that — and in Jon Hamm’s case, for everything else he is and does.

This blog is a great place to be. :)

  2. Mad Chick, I agree about reading reviews after seeing a movie. However, please know that I never post spoilers in my reviews. Truly, I am SO careful. If I reveal a plot point it’s either revealed in the first 10 minutes or it’s more or less already on the poster.
