  1. Anne Hathaway is perfection.

  2. Deborah, I also love the Oscars with an undying love. I’ve watched since I was a kid, and I remember very clearly staying up reallly late on a school night to see Mel Gibson win best picture for Braveheart. I try each year to see as many nominees as possible, but didn’t do so good this year. Saw Inception, The Social Network, which is my pick for best picture, and saw Winter’s Bone last weekend. Check it out, please, you will be amazed by that young lady who should win best actress tonight, Jennifer Lawrence.

  3. Loved what Amy Adams had on, absolutely stunning, and probably the best I’ve ever seen her look in formal dress. Lots of weird choices tonight, too-and Mila Kunis needs a bra, she’s a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen!
Melissa Leo, love the hair and makeup, but not sure about the gold lame under the lace dress-it’s a little drag queen, maybe.

Here’s hoping Hathaway and Franco knock it out of the park tonight!

  4. So I got a big kick out of hearing The Hall of the Mountain King in TSN and I’m also loving it here as the opener to the show! How fabulous!

  5. “The naked girl from Love and Other Drugs.” HA!

  6. Good lord, Lipp ladies, it appears we are the only ones here!!! Is no one else watching????
    Co-hosts doing good so far……

  7. Deborah-”And the guy from General Hospital”!!!!

  8. LOVE the white and silver dress.

  9. You are not alone.
I just could not get over the awkwardness of the jane and whathisname on stage. The mom and grandma were great though.
    Tom h. looks good.

  10. why is qwyenth iin such a perfered seat?

  11. I think my money was on Inception for set direction. Oh well.

  12. Gwyneth is singing one of the nominated songs.

  13. LOVE so many of the dresses on the red carpet!

The only nominated films I’ve seen this year are Toy Story 3, Inception and True Grit (which was my favorite of the 3).

  14. How sweet was Kirk Douglas? “You look much better out of the cave!”
    Rooting for Leo!

  15. Ok, that was fabulous!!!!! I love old folks who still have a good time!
And waaaay to go Melissa!!!! I’ve loved her since she was on Homicide, wonderful to see her now!!!!!
If ya’ll haven’t had a chance to watch Treme yet, please check it out. It’s very moving, very entertaining, and it provides a stark picture of life after 2005 in NOLA. I re-watched the finale of season one last night on HBO, and ML still blows me away.

  16. Mildred pearce is on TCM

  17. Sorry, I was bored

  18. this girls gown is lovely
    What was she in

  19. Susan, I’m guessing you’re referring to Mila Kunis in that lavender dress…..she was in Black Swan.

  20. Oooooo, c’mon Aaron Sorkin!!!!

  21. Yes, thanks…I did not see the film Black Swan, understand it is very disturbing…

  22. wow, they will play him off

  23. I loved Kings Speech…glad to see them get it
    Late bloomer

  24. stay extrodinary

  25. “Late bloomer” — hah!

  26. Ok, so far the night is going verrrry well for my picks!!!!! Loved seing Trent get up there and be humble, because he is a freaking genius. I cannot wait to see what projects he’s involved in next as a result of this success-that score set the whole mood for that movie and was hauntingly beautiful.

  27. those gloves!

  28. God love Randy…he got old. but his talent is timeless
Do you know if he is southern or does he just sing that way

  29. Mandy Moore killed Cookie Monster!

  30. Susan, he’s from LA actually, his father was a movie musician.

  31. Thanks Deb, he sure is amazingl.

  32. The God of Love guy is ADORABLE.

  33. Blue dress. Whoa.

  34. Well, I didn’t do badly in my pool.

  35. So, no real surprises here. Lots of deserving nominees, and lots of safe wins. Very proud of TR’s and AS’s accomplishments, and looking forward to finally seeing The King’s Speech-hopefully the real version, not the edited one they are re-releasing that removes all the king’s foul language.

Anne looked great, especially in her last few dresses, but Franco was non-existent as a host. Apparently he was busy twittering videos from backstage and whatnot, but still, he had no spark. What a shame. Anne gave it her all, and the nominees and presenters helped, but it was a pretty bland show.

Not to be crude, but does anyone else think Charlie Sheen might be in next year’s In Memoriam? Sad.

That’s all from me, hope ya’ll have a great night!

  36. The only intrigue left on Oscar nite is who is not going to be invited to the Vanity Fair shindig at Morton’s. My money says Sheen and Lindsay Lohan(perennial member of my Ghoul Pool) will not cross into the hallowed hall. Toy Story 3 was EASILY the best film of the year. So that means the Academy has gotten it right about 16 times out of 83. Whatev.

  37. Glad to see Melissa Leo win!

She was part of an amazing ensemble cast on “Homicide: Life on the Street” on NBC in the 1990s. Until “Mad Men” came along, it was my favorite TV drama.

I recommend “Homicide” to fill the gap, if you’ve never watched it, while waiting for “Mad Men” to return.

  38. Melissa Leo, great in Frozen River, and the most down to earth character in Homicide, which was on for most of the ’90s. Based on some of the same material as The Wire, but not so relentlessly squalid; I enjoyed it more, though The Wire was better.

  39. rowan, I agree — Ann gave it her all, James didn’t, but there was no there there. Billy Crystal’s five minutes were better than the rest of the hosting.

I am REALLY annoyed that the Thalberg and Lifetime Achievement have been moved off center stage. They’ve taken out all the kitsch and all the history and what’s left? James Franco’s grandma.

I wish the awards had been more diverse; like something for True Grit, something for The Kids Are All Right, something that awarded a wider range of films. And I wish Banksy had won. Probably the only time in the voting pool I went with my heart and of course I was wrong.

  40. I also wondered why they didn’t have the Thalberg Award or Lifetime Achievement on. They need to bring that back to the main telecast.

Why didn’t they use the audience reaction audio during the In Memoriam segment? Personally, I’d much rather hear instrumental music and reactions of the audience, than a vocalist.

  41. Deb, I went to you tube and looked up Billy Crystal’s clips. Here is a fantastic opening number he performed. The audiance was thrilled. It was brilliant. Enjoy.
P.S. who hired James? He’s probably a nice kid, but not ready for the gig at Oscars.
Ann’s stock just climbed in tinstle town. She was a delight and who knew she could sing and move so well.

  42. I’d like to see Anne H carry the whole show next year, not having to haul an inert male co-host around on her back.

Or else, give her Hugh Jackman. THAT would be a show!

  43. Anne H was engaging, but all I could think of was, ‘where’s Billy Crystal, Jon Stewart, Chris Rock, Letterman’, etc. Isn’t hosting the Oscars supposed to be a reward for being unofficially recognized as America’s top comic? Obtw; Letterman was very good in ’94 but was skewered by idiot media, because of the 1 lame ‘Uma, Oprah’ joke. Chris Rock was not on his game, but still very funny. So instead of cutting edge Oscar goes for the safe, vanilla, kid tested mother approved box office sweetheart. Anne H is many good things, but funny………….? No. Oscar is officially a Catskills, Borscht Belt, level of entertainment now. Sad.
