  1. I concur with CH, but I don't think VK will ever get an emmy nod. People are too set in despising his character and unlikeable characters rarely get nominated (Tony Soprano, Don Draper, etc may be unlikeable to a degree but they have a charisma which Pete Campbell intentionally lacks). It's too bad because personally I think Pete Campbell is the most complex character on the show along with Peggy.

  2. Love that Daily Beast piece. It says a lot of what I've been trying to articulate. Joan and Betty are equally willingly trapped in patriarchy-approved roles, and equally unhappy. They're equal in their sense of always having to be "on," always being judged by both men and women. By the standards of their time, they're equally as good at their jobs, although it does't always seem either one has the job she wants. The only differences are in the details.

  3. I have a gut feeling, and I don't know why… but I don't think that Baby Gene is long for this world. I see a SIDS case coming on. And, I see it driving a wedge between Betty and Henry… and possibly Betty back into Don's arms.

  4. Melissa,

See top link under Basketcase News: today's piece on Jezebel, asking some good questions about Betty. Could be that we are seeing a kind of backlash to the Betty-beatdown that's been so popular, around these Internet parts. :)

On another linked topic above: Sally2, I am not sure it's out of the question to guess that VK could get an Emmy nod. We got Betty White hosting SNL, by just liking her on Facebook.

Imagine what we could do if we got out from behind our computers and did something real!

Christ on a Cracker, people. Think.

  5. I thought VK deserved an Emmy nod after the first season. If you saw VK in real life, you can see what a stretch it is for him to play Pete Campbell.

  6. In the hands of any other actor, I can't imagine Pete being such a fascinaing character.

  7. #3 Mark, that seems kind of spooky. I actually think Henry will want to adopt baby Gene and Don will be enraged, but then give in.

#4 Anne, the way Betty has been written this year is so one dimensional that some sympathy for her is warranted. I hope Matt tones down the anger a hair.

  8. I don't think anything is going to make Betty go back to Don. Have a one-night stand with him? Maybe.

I also hope they're not going to turn Betty into some Nasty Mom cartoon. That could easily happen.

  9. Maybe I'm too much of a Whedon fan. I could picture Betty & Don having a one-night stand this season. Will he lose his soul & return to her, just as we thought Angel might after his encounter with re-vamped Darla, the Bad Blonde in his life?

Instead, Angel had an epiphany. He realized he was done with Darla & resolved to return to his new life. I can see Don realizing he & Betty were done.

But the other result of that night was Conner. Which is just too weird. Back to the Red Carpet!
