1. Registration issue fixed! (My fault entirely.)
2. Thought we might like to discuss Mad Men. Several people in comments noticed this article. Do we believe this? Here’s the original quote:
While fielding questions about how he is able to create great content year after year for the series, Weiner said that he could not see writing or even continuing the series past a 6th season if that were to happen.
Honestly, my sense is that this could be true, or this could be Matt speaking from a place of anxiety, which is something he does sometimes. The media longs to have scoops, Matt doesn’t give them out, so a remark rooted in “I can’t really see it” becomes news. I’m not convinced.
In Season 4 news: Anna Camp of True Blood seems to be part of the cast.
I guess everyone already knows that Jared Harris has been made a series regular. I guess with his “name on the door” (but not yet the building) of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, that was inevitable. And very welcome.
What I like about this fashion article is its observation that “all things these days” can be traced to the influence of Mad Men.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

Good news, we'd get three more seasons. It could be worse, he could have said that sesason 4 would be the leas one! Matt knows what's best. M*A*S*H stopped being good after 8 seasons, and I"m thankful we won't see Don in polyester and sideburns! But in just three seasons, would that give enough time to make it to the moon landing? And I'd hate to see Kiernan replaced.
Pardon my typos! Should say 'he could have said that SEASON 4 would be the LAST one!'
The website crapped out around the time I got my Season Three DVD.
I wonder if those who have this latest collection, were also disappointed that My Old Kentucky Home, Guy Walks Into…, The Grown-Ups, and Shut the Door… didn't have a commentary track.
I realize that not all of the episodes can have this feature on the DVD, but they are ones I really would have liked to have had it.
As for the prospect of limiting the series to just six seasons — Given the nature and quality of the show thus far, assuming that the show would deteriorate on any level, merely on the basis of an extended run, just isn't valid. The only way that Mad Men could 'run out of gas' is if Matt simply chooses to not 'completely fill the tank'.
I don't think that Matt was misquoted, but it's possible that he was being a little misleading. Remember that throughout Season Three, he deliberately gave the impression that the show would gloss over (or skip entirely) the JFK assassination. Turns out that EP 3-12, not only didn't do either, but (for my money) handled it brilliantly!
Is "Betty Draper Number 2" a coincidence?
Most notable cable shows wrap after 6 seasons, as a way of going out on top.
I think having a deadline for the show is a Good Thing. A well defined and executed story arc is far better than having it just trail on and on with increasingly improbable happenings to goose the ratings until you want to cry out, "For the love of creation, just kill it! Put it out of its misery!" There's too much of that in US television.
"I wonder if those who have this latest collection, were also disappointed that My Old Kentucky Home, Guy Walks Into…, The Grown-Ups, and Shut the Door… didn’t have a commentary track."
All of the season three episodes have a commentary track. However, as with the season two DVDs, the commentary section of the menu is laid out so that their presence is not obvious.
@SmilerG : Check again. Every single episode on the S3 DVD has at least one commentary, always with Matt Weiner and someone else (often a writer or director), and at least half the episodes have a second commentary, usually with a few actors (gabbing on). Well, I have the Blu-Ray version but I'd be amazed to hear that the DVD version has fewer commentaries. Does it? Anyone else with the DVD?
It's interesting how, at least with cable, shows are being made more and more with an end point in mind. David Simon had stated that he never saw The Wire going past 5 seasons, Vince Gilligan has stated he doesn't think Breaking Bad will need more than 4 seasons, and now we've got Matt Weiner putting Mad Men at 6. It seemed to be that in the past, if a show wasn't presented as a mini-series then it was taken as far as it could possibly go. (which arguably led to drops in quality, or having to resort to gimmicks to keep the show fresh)
No reactions yet to the Season 4 sneak photos posted on the Anna Camp link? I know absolutely nothing about fashion… can anybody figure out what year this might be? Not too much (if anything) has changed in Don's appearance, right?

Am I understanding this correctly — The Season Three BluRay edition has a commentary track on all 12 Eps and the DVD edition of Season Three has a commentary track on only selected Eps.?
Some might find this interesting:
In The Grown-Ups, Peggy tells Don that her roomie invited people from their apartment building over, to write condolence messages to Jackie Kennedy.
Back then, I had posted that a book has been written, that contains many of these letters.
The author of “Letters To Jackie,” Ellen Fitzpatrick, appears in this one-hour C-Span BookTV segment …

Did anyone notice the holiday like wreath on the doorway where Anna Camp was standing in the stills ? Don't know if it was for a holiday, or just decoration for a party, but it made me wonder.
I like the idea of 3 more seasons (including this one) of MM. But only if Matt is still at the helm. He is so involved with this show from top to bottom, there are times he must feel exhausted from it. But I'm assuming he has his end game and how he'd like to see MM end, so if it's 6 seasons w/ Matt and co., I will savor every minute.
@SmilerG: I can't speak to the DVD version, I have the Blu-Ray. But I really suggest you look again. For one thing, there are 13 episodes, not 12. I'm quite sure they haven't left an episode off the DVD version. On the Blu-Ray version, yes, there are commentaries for all 13 episodes, and two commentaries for several of them. I think you need a confirmation from someone with the DVD version as to what they have.
Jerry and Lianne –The pictures of Anna Camp on the set lead me to believe that Don is Christmasing in California! Looks like they're still in 1963, I think they're picking up right where they left off.
Also, I'm really shocked that anyone got pictures on the set! I thought that set was ironclad once they started shooting! And Anna Camp does look like a Betty Draper doppleganger.
Therese,
I'm surprised as well. But maybe because the pictures were taken outside made it more accessible for the pictures to be taken at all.
That wreath has nothing Christmasy on it except some sort of fruits. Sometimes I wish we didn't have these pictures; I end up wanting more of them.
It doesn't surprise me that the show has potentially six seasons in it; I think that's probably about right in terms of the show's potential to stay fresh and interesting.
She does look a lot like Betty. I'm not sold on season 3 starting where we left off. I've seen other pictures that make it seem like it's going to be to 65. Also, knowing it's going to end after 6 seasons makes me think it is far more likely to see a jump in time.
Here is the picture I am talking about. It's from spoilertv.com, but there are not plot points revealed, only pictures from the set. Also, I think this may have been posted at the Basket of Kisses Blog.

The photos are "on" the set in the sense that they were taken where filming is taking place, not that they are pictures of scenes that will appear on screen. Most of them look like they were taken while the cast was having lunch. Some are in costume, some not. I'm guessing that Jon Hamm in his undershirt while others are standing around in full costume is not something you're going to see in MM4.
So naturally it looks like California, if that turns out to be just the (outdoors) staff canteen for the day. The series is shot in California.

The series might end in 2012? I can live with that. I feel that the idea of stretching the series endlessly would be a big mistake.
