S3 DVD reviewed and extras revealed.

IFC interviews Jon Hamm about his new movie, Stolen, about Don Draper, and other things.

We’ve already read about the Mad Men Barbies. I just wanted to share the illustration!

Basketcase not_Bridget found a skirt being advertised as a Mad Men item: The “Secretary” Joan.

Basketcase Therese linked us up with this slideshow of obsolete jobs, including a Sterling-Cooper style typing pool.

Therese also found us this mention of Jon Hamm as a possible Captain America. Best part of the article may be Jennifer’s dress.

Bryan Batt is interviewed in the Huffington Post. And in Zap2It.

Here’s an article on party planning that mixes “Mad Men retro” in among its list of ideas. The Burlington Free Press describes one such party.

I think I am going to stop listing reviews of Breaking Bad that mention and compare it to Mad Men in the News. There are just too many of them. Rubicon starts production this month: Eventually I may make the same decision on that show, but not quite yet.

The Moderate Voice ties in the premiere of S3 re-broadcasting to some creative anti-smoking ads.

A real estate article suggests renting empty, unrented space for TV and film shoots, noting Mad Men (among others) has used them.

  1. That obsolete jobs link was fascinating, thanks for including it.

  2. It was nice hearing Jon's voice on the M-B car commercials last night during the Syracuse University basketball game… :-)

  4. Speaking of Breaking Bad, just last night I noticed this description on a blog: "It's the best show on TV that's not named 'Mad Men'."

  5. Thanks for including my 2 links! I'm not a fangirl, but I think Jon Hamm would make an incredible Captain America. (Those eyes, that jaw, sigh!)

I never considered Captain America to be an interesting character. Hamm could do better than that.

  7. Honestly, I don't see Joan ever wearing that skirt, but it's fun to see even J. Peterman jump on this bandwagon.

  8. The Newsday link appears to be "subscriber only".

Is there another link (free) that has the info about the Season Three DVD features, extras, bonuses?

  9. Forget Captain America. The comics character Hamm would be perfect to play is Reuben Flagg, of Howard Chaykin's sci-fi satirical series "American Flagg!":

Check out the covers in the article. Hamm's a dead ringer. And the sardonic, sexy Flagg is right up Hamm's alley, personality-wise.

  10. So, I've managed to avoid the silliness that is Desperate Housewives for six years now. But I'd heard Julie Benz ("Darla") had a guest role, so I watched the show with one eye last week. This week John Barrowman's appearance was announced–so I paid a bit more attention.

One of the many subplots involves Bree, the rich lady (most of them are rich ladies) with a sort of Martha Stewart career on the side. Apparently, she's a widow married to her second husband–Kyle McLachlan in a wheelchair. Last week she discovered that her assistant, Sam, is the son of her dead first husband; of course, she had to tease the fact out of the stalwart, intelligent & perfect young man. This week, she invited him to dinner so she could introduce him to his half-sibs; things did not go well. By the end of the episode, Bree's son & her husband suspect that Sam may not be what he pretends to be. The audience gets a hint that they are right.

I could have told them all not to trust him–"Sam" is played by Sam Page. Last seen as Greg Harris–the guy most of us want to see on a one-way trip to Southeast Asia. Glad the actor is getting work between seasons of Mad Men. He's awfully good at playing handsome young men whose beauty is skin deep.

(Oh, and John Barrowman's character is a big change from his previous roles. But I'm afraid of getting sucked into this stupid show. Oh, look! Hulu has the first season, as well as the most recent shows; Sam shows up in "The Chase.")
