Basketcases! We haven’t had an open thread since, well, since Mad Men was in season. Go wild! Is January fug or fab? Is Jon fab or…fab? (Because what else is he, EVER?) Does he finally bring home the most deserved award in history or WHAT?

  1. Streep is invincible. She's like an acting cyborg — unstoppable and endlessly good.

  2. Sam Worthington is so awesome.

  3. A person's disease should never win him or her any special consideration.

If life were that way, the squeaky wheels would always …

    never mind. :(

A good night to all. Hooray for Hollywood?

  4. The Gypsy & the Hobo should have won it for Hamm. It's some of the best acting I've ever seen, ever. I am very disappointed.

  5. BTW, Jennifer Westfeldt is on 24 tonight. She spans networks.

  6. Hee, Rich Sommer tweeted "Cher should consider having some work done."

  7. FWIW…Mark Moses ("Duck" Phillips) had a small part as an embittered salesman with a rifle in the opening of "Human Target" tonight. Seemed apropos.

  8. Very disappointed for Jon, but I'm hopeful for the SAG's. Jon was amazing in the Gypsy and the Hobo, and I hope that Emmy's will reward him for that.

  9. YES!

  10. Yesssssss!!!

  11. That's more like it.

  12. YAY!!!! Doesn't Lizzie look so happy? What a wonderful moment!

  13. Matt says he was surprised…come on dude…we Basketcases all KNEW you'd pull it off! No show will ever compare. Congrats!

  14. Yippee!!

  15. Vincent's hair looked so different with it dyed blondish… and dang, Christina…

  16. It looks like they didn't invite more of the crew this year. Still, they all look great and so happy.

  17. Glad Mad Men won as Best Drama!

It makes up for Jon & January's loss – and, of course, the Chargers' dismal performance.

  18. All's right with the world again.

I love the pastels on Lizzie and Christina.

  19. Man, Jane Lynch got robbed! I thought she'd win easily.

  20. Good.

  21. Christoph Waltz winning — YES! So deserved for Basterds…

  22. Everyone looked fantastic tonight!! I thought Jon & Vincent looked great and Elisabeth, January, and Christina looked exceptionally raidiant and very beautiful as always!! What a great looking cast we have on Mad Men!!

  23. Intro from Gervais (drinking beer on stage): "I like a beer as much as the next man… unless the next man is… Mel Gibson!"

  24. That was awesome, Karl! I made it my Facebook status update, lol. So happy that "Glee" won for Best TV Comedy! I actually watch all of those comedies so I would have been happy for any of them (well, maybe not "Entourage", that show is past its prime), but "Glee" needs the publicity more than any of them, so I'm glad they got it.

  25. I could not believe "The Hangover" won Best Comedy! I absolutely love the movie. The funniest 2 hours ever!

  26. Robert Downey, Jr. should be designated speech-giver (despite my preference for Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the category).

  27. Bridges. Dude.

  28. I'm disappointed that "Up in the Air" and George Clooney didn't win their respective awards, mainly because that's less screen time for George. Plus, James Cameron has annoyed me since his ungracious "I'm the king of the world" acceptance speech for "Titanic."

  29. Julia Roberts has to be pissed that people keep reminding her that she turned down The Blind Side.

  30. Thoughts in bullet form:

    - Thank god the show won.

    - I love Jon Hamm, but I'm strangely okay with Michael C Hall winning. Still a sucker for anyone from Six Feet Under.

    - Julianna Margulies over January? Really?

    - Thank god Jane Lynch didn't win. Ugh that Glee beat Modern Family.

    - Drew Barrymore was a nice surprise.

    - Yay Toni Collette. Can't believe it's her first GG.

    And on the movie side…

    - I liked Avatar as an experience, but The Hurt Locker deserved both best picture and best director.

    - So glad Christoph Waltz won! Inglourious Basterds probably deserved Best Screenplay, but I loved Up in the Air too.

    - Sandra Bullock over Carey Mulligan? Really?

    - Robert Downey Jr over Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Really?

    - The Hangover over 500 Days of Summer? Really?

Okay, I'm done. Christina looked amazing as always and remains the true unsung [or unnominated at least] hero of Mad Men. Next year perhaps.

  31. "Robert Downey Jr over Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Really?"

    Really. Hooray for Robert!

  32. I think as a film, 500 days might be better than Hangover but Hangover is infinitely much more fun than 500 days. But hey, Avatar won, so I guess anything else is possible right?

Can't complain about Michael Hall's win. He's great actor. Can't believe this is his first as well. Best Actors are always so competitive.

  33. It was Michael C. Hall's first win, and he did not announce that he had cancer until a few days ago, so I doubt that had little to do with it. He has deserved it many times for Six Feet Under and he is the only person I would say, well yeah, he is as good as Jon Hamm is in his show Dexter. But still, I wanted The Hamster!!!! Damn that Jon and all the gals were looking beautiful! Even Vinnie!

  34. Congratulations to Michael C. Hall! I'm not a regular viewer of DEXTER, but I have seen some of his work. And he really is that good.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
