Screen Actors Guild is a cool one–acting only. It gets us that sought-after ensemble catetory we love so well.

So its, Mad Men for best ensemble in a drama, and Hamm for best actor in a drama.

Love love love our folks! Kisses to all.

Check out the official list of nominees.

  1. I guess getting drunk and running over some Guy's foot with a lawn mower doesn't get you a SAG nom…bummed for Crista Flanagan (Lois) and Julie McNiven (Hildy). They're just under the number of episodes required to make the ensemble, as is Peyton List (Jane)……but kinda surprised with Alexa Alemanni (Allison, Don's secretary) because I didn't realize she had been in all the episodes this season! Allison doesn't really have much to say in the show (aside from "Good morning, Mr. Draper") and the character isn't as memorable as Lois, Hildy, or Jane. Still, good for her for getting to share in the ensemble nod!

Tough line-up with MM being up against the newcomer True Blood….I don't watch it but they have a huge fan base. Hoping that doesn't split the vote…

  2. Thrilled for MM, Jon Hamm and the cast. But this year will be a tough one I think for MM to win another trophy. Dexter had an amazing season, and I'm hoping Jon and company will be able to beat the competition.

  3. # Lianne,

Dexter did have a standout season, yes. But it still leans on a narrative device that Mad Men never does: the voiceover.

The fact that Mad Men trusts its writers, its incredible actors (Jon Hamm had a near-perfect year, perhaps the best I've seen), and us, to recognize critical moments, is important. What we feel is entirely up to us.

I think that this classical (and adult) approach to story works in Mad Men's favor — especially given the lack of other shows that have the same confidence in their viewers' intelligence and ability to follow that story.

    That's my hope, anyway. :)

  4. #3 Anne B,

That is quite true about Dexter leaning toward the narrative and MM not doing so, and that's what I'm hoping will give us a MM sweep both at the SAGS and the Globes. And without question, this was MM and Jon Hamm's best season to date.

  5. But come on. Dexter is a serial killer with no feelings (or so he says). Absolutely everything he does and says aloud to be perceived as "normal" is the opposite of how he feels. We kinda need a voiceover to clarify that.
I'm just getting defensive because I love, love, love Dexter. This season with John Lithgow has been the best yet.
But aside from a Globe for Lithgow, I'm also pulling for MM sweeping every damn award there is to give. It's been the best show on TV since it's been on.

  6. It's a tad peculiar that drama actress had 6 slots this year and not one of them MM women got in. Hmmmmm….that category is a bore.

  7. I actually adore Alexa Alemanni and am thrilled she's included.

  8. How long will this site continue to ignore this?: http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-v…

  9. Speaking of newsworthy tidbits…Matt did a new interview on the upcoming season!

  10. @ 10: Thanks for that scoop. My favorite exchange:

"The divorce forks the story a little bit…"

"She's raising Don's kids. And I also feel that [Betty] was always in her own show."

  11. I don't know, I think Allison was a really cool character, and besides the SAG ensemble nomination is about the ensemble for only the 3rd season of the show, meaning the actors that really had a consistent presence throughout the 3rd season, and she was in like every single episode! The same is true of Bobby Draper (Jared Gilmore); he hardly spoke in some episodes! Unfortunately not everyone can make the cut, but I think the MM people put together a great list!
