My daughter's the same type AnneB (she doesn't take after me, darnit!, but after her Dad). She eats everything in sight and plenty of it and her 5'4" frame barely has 100 lbs on it.
I've met January, met her parents and it looks like she takes after her tall thin Dad. If I remember correctly, her younger sister's built the same way. Very thin people have assumptions made about them, just like heavy people do. In fact she said in an interview recently that she was told to put on weight for MM and has trouble doing that.

Begs the question: why do MEN get criticized far less for their body type and clothes, but a woman who's at a fundraiser (not on a runway) is scrutinized. I'm just saying…

My personal bend is that clothes should be fun, not to offend, but not just worn to impress others.

I think she's way too skinny. I noticed it in the final ep when she's on the phone with Don standing in the kitchen.

Her slightly "edgy" special appearance dresses are cute. The cutouts of the mauve dress are unusual, but you wouldn't want them skin tight — it would look tacky. She looked great on SNL. Her gown for the Emmys was fabulous. Makes you wonder which designer she IS using.

The Project Runway idea is good. Although she looks fabulous in the Betty clothes and I want all of them, it is best for her to distinguish her style for these other appearances.

Of course, she's probably on the Hollywood tofu diet due to upcoming films. (bleagh!)

Did anyone consider that maybe she wanted the dress to look like that?

January could wear tight stuff if she wanted. I'll just bet that after umpteen hours every day, several months a year, in a corsets and stuff, she might just be tired of all that … and want to have some comfortable fun at a party, for once.

Possible?

By the way, quite a few mainstream retailers* now make dresses in size double- and triple-zero (00 and 000), for very thin girls. I'm the stepmom of such a girl, and she eats like a truck driver; she's just growing like beach grass. Unfortunately, most of those dresses hit her at about mid-thigh. Not okay — either by her mom's standards or mine.

* Like Banana Republic. Ohhhhh … the Banana.

Maybe she could do an Extra Special Guest Appearance on What Not To Wear?

January's coming out for a fine cause. But it's a shame when such a lovely woman wears a dress that just doesn't fit!

Gingere, it's very possible she doesn't have a stylist. How much would someone make working on Mad Men? It's basic cable, not network TV, and she hasn't been in any blockbuster movies to speak of. Stylists cost money: unless a designer agrees to give you clothes, you pay for them and well as the stylist's time.

But perhaps she could do a guest shot on Project Runway next season and have a dress designed for her…

I thought so too, but then I remembered she's about to do back-to-back films before Mad Men starts up again, and the unspoken standards for film actresses…
