January Jones attends Oceana’s 2009 Gala held in Los Angeles. If you don’t remember ( or don’t feel like looking back) Oceana is an ocean protection advocacy group. Ms Jones is their spokesperson.

  1. That's Zach Galifinakis, Frazer Harrison took the photo.

  2. De-lurking to add this cogent and well thought out comment…

    YOWZA

Ok, back to lurk mode now.

P.S. – Love the site, check it every day, blah, blah, blah.

    P.S.S. – YOWZA!!

  3. Dang it…you're right.

UGH, don't you hate it when you work so hard on putting together a relevant and thought-provoking post, and you think you've NAILED it (like I obviously did…DUH), and then you ruin it with a stupid grammatical error like that?

It's almost as bad as coming up with the PERFECT ad idea while in the midst of a liquor-fueled conversation with the night janitor…and then forgetting to write it down.

  4. That's a pretty ugly dress!

S.P.: Scott, I know EXACTLY what you mean. I HATE when that happens.

  5. She looks a lot better in her Betty clothes.

But good for her, for her advocacy.

  6. I love Zach's between two ferns series.

  7. Gosh, she is a little tiny thing! That dress looks like a size 2 wearing a 12. But the color is lovely and evocative of the oceans. I'm sure she doesn't wear anything remotely MM in real life, to avoid being typecast. Heck, she could wear old sugar sacks and look beautiful.

And I second the applause for her advocacy.

  8. Wow, she is really small. It's hard to see that in her MM clothes. She has a really lovely smile though (also hard to see on MM, heh).

  9. January Jones is soooo beautiful and is always sooooo poorly styled when she is photographed out of character. Seriously, the edgy thing just doesn't work for her. Embrace that Grace Kelly thing, girl!

  10. Ah yes, the ubiquitous, "Look! I don't have love handles" dress. Yawn.

  11. She's looking a bit too thin…

  12. I love that cause… Nice work January! I could care less what your wearing, but I think you look cute and very oceanic. I hope you have fun with your clothes… one of the great things about being female… lots of choices :)

  13. I commend her cause for the Oceana.

#14 – I agree – She does look much thinner than she did last year. Way too thin. She needs to at least wear a dress that fits her. Maybe she does not have a good manager or advisor- if not I would like her to find one. She is too talented not to.

  14. "I agree – She does look much thinner than she did last year."

I thought so too, but then I remembered she's about to do back-to-back films before Mad Men starts up again, and the unspoken standards for film actresses…

  15. #17….. the unspoken standards for film actresses.
    ————————————————-

Well I would hope actresses like Christina Hendricks can change that standard, so women and be naturally curvy if they want to.

  16. Her waist reminds me of the molded torso of a Barbie Doll! But she's a lovely woman, pretty colors on her.

  17. I guess if I were skinny…oh, never mind. She's a lovely gal and it's nice to see she's got an important cause to get behind! good for her!

  18. Gingere, it's very possible she doesn't have a stylist. How much would someone make working on Mad Men? It's basic cable, not network TV, and she hasn't been in any blockbuster movies to speak of. Stylists cost money: unless a designer agrees to give you clothes, you pay for them and well as the stylist's time.

But perhaps she could do a guest shot on Project Runway next season and have a dress designed for her…

  19. Maybe she could do an Extra Special Guest Appearance on What Not To Wear?

January's coming out for a fine cause. But it's a shame when such a lovely woman wears a dress that just doesn't fit!

  20. Did anyone consider that maybe she wanted the dress to look like that?

January could wear tight stuff if she wanted. I'll just bet that after umpteen hours every day, several months a year, in a corsets and stuff, she might just be tired of all that … and want to have some comfortable fun at a party, for once.

    Possible?

By the way, quite a few mainstream retailers* now make dresses in size double- and triple-zero (00 and 000), for very thin girls. I'm the stepmom of such a girl, and she eats like a truck driver; she's just growing like beach grass. Unfortunately, most of those dresses hit her at about mid-thigh. Not okay — either by her mom's standards or mine.

    * Like Banana Republic. Ohhhhh … the Banana. :)

  21. Her slightly "edgy" special appearance dresses are cute. The cutouts of the mauve dress are unusual, but you wouldn't want them skin tight — it would look tacky. She looked great on SNL. Her gown for the Emmys was fabulous. Makes you wonder which designer she IS using.

The Project Runway idea is good. Although she looks fabulous in the Betty clothes and I want all of them, it is best for her to distinguish her style for these other appearances.

Of course, she's probably on the Hollywood tofu diet due to upcoming films. (bleagh!)

  22. I think she's way too skinny. I noticed it in the final ep when she's on the phone with Don standing in the kitchen.

  23. My daughter's the same type AnneB (she doesn't take after me, darnit!, but after her Dad). She eats everything in sight and plenty of it and her 5'4" frame barely has 100 lbs on it.
I've met January, met her parents and it looks like she takes after her tall thin Dad. If I remember correctly, her younger sister's built the same way. Very thin people have assumptions made about them, just like heavy people do. In fact she said in an interview recently that she was told to put on weight for MM and has trouble doing that.

Begs the question: why do MEN get criticized far less for their body type and clothes, but a woman who's at a fundraiser (not on a runway) is scrutinized. I'm just saying…

My personal bend is that clothes should be fun, not to offend, but not just worn to impress others.
