Adorable, right?
The photos were sent to me from Jared Isle, with the following explanation:
We (DraftFCB) were tasked with promoting the third season of Mad Men here in New Zealand. We’re huge fan(atic)s… One of the things we decided to do, since Don’s pretty Ken doll anyway, is we’d make some Don Draper dolls to send out to people. His suit is hand-stitched from real cloth, we designed and built a wood-panelled box for him to sit in. They were prohibitively expensive to make and we ran out of budget pretty quick, but totally worth it.
Hopefully the photos I’ve attached get the idea across.
They do. I want one. Love the packaging. (Collect all four mistresses! Hilarity!)

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

The doll is a little too pretty to be a Don Draper doll. Maybe Don when he was just shedding his Dick Whitman persona and becoming Don. LOL Very clever packaging!!
Just checked out the howdonareyou.com listed on the package. Too funny! The "Catch up on Don" recaps of the first 3 seasons, 2-3 sentences per episode, are hilarious. S1 E4 "A petulant Pete takes cash from in-laws when wife wants luxe pad. Betty’s creepy kid neighbor hits on her" S1 E6 "Whoa! Secretary Peggy has a brain! Supervising hottie, Joan, not amused."
Oh cool, Jules. I will check those out.
I love the doll, but the hat is all wrong. It looks like a woman's hat. It couldn't have been that hard to make a tiny fedora. I'm a perfectionist with sort of thing, which is why I love "Mad Men;" you don't see glaring anachronisms like on other shows (see hairstyles from later seasons of "Happy Days"). Overall, the doll is awesome.
The doll looks like a Barbie.
I think the doll is meant to look like a Barbie–Jared references Don as Ken doll in his email to me.
The fabrics are wrong; too thick, which made the fit too bulky. And the slim fit is everything on Don, and the show in general. I would think there are just a handful of craftspeople in the world with the skill to make a tiny man's suit, much less a hat. But I love love love the effort.
Love the shoes.
That is a cool way to promote a show! I appreciate the work that went into making this- so cute! Perhaps some touch ups here and there would make it better, but I think they did a great job.
I think Sal would love it. Maybe not the outfit, certainly not the hat, but that baby face is just too adorable!
Did the fairies bring me this? Or was it my stupid baby brother?
I don't know if I like him. But I will put him on my bed anyway.
P.S., What's a "mistress"?
"See him drink, pitch and philander"
LOL!
Facially, it doesn't even look like him, and the colors of the clothes are a bit off as well.
To be honest, these Mattel Joan Jett/Cyndi Lauper/Debbie Harry Barbies look much more accurate and impressive.

Really? Mattel, who is an entire expert in this and fully devoted for decades, actually did a better job than an agency in New Zealand having them custom made? That is just crazy talk!
On a separate note, multi-handled negative plagiarists are getting on my nerves.
I think the world is ready for an entire line of Mad Men Dolls.
For example: The Bert Cooper Doll – Wind it up and it tells you to take off your shoes.
The Freddy Rumsen Doll – Wind it up and it pees down its leg.
You get the idea …
Now let's hear some more about other proposed Mad Men Dolls!
Points for the effort. Points off for the too-precious hat.
Dyna-Moe paperdolls, now that's another idea.
An idea whose time has come:

I think Chuckie ruined me for dolls. and I've only seen the previews. or maybe it was stories about ventriloquist dummies…except for the story about the ventriloquist in Cradle Will Rock.
have to agree the box is the best part.
and I LOVE Dyna Moe's paperdolls.
Am I the only one who thinks it looks more like Campbell??
The shoes are pretty great and the pant length is right on! The tie and the brown color are good too. The face, not so much… but then again, not sure how easy it would be to capture that handsome face. This doll is way too pretty.
He should have a 5'o clock shadow… "You need a shave", "you need a shave"
I just can't believe that Mattel hasn't licensed a Mad Men series of Don and Betty dolls in a variety of outfits … dressed up for a Valentine's Day date at the hotel, Roman Holiday, etc.
They're already SO Ken and Barbie! But now that they're divorced, that seems unlikely.
Next, Roger and Joan dolls … Pete and Trudy dolls (in their Charleston outfits)
A few years ago, I was quite tempted by the Mattel "X-Files" Mulder and Scully doll set.
I would buy this just to own the terrific packaging!
But Don-doll does need a cigarette between his fingers. And a shiftier look in his eyes…
Love the packaging. I can't say the same about the doll.
Oy vey…I was hoping Mad Men wouldn't go this direction. I'm actually surprised that Sex and The City didn't have any dolls. The packaging is great but the doll doesn't look too great. I think the doll looks like Joan's husband.
Packaging is FAB!
BUT….he looks like a '70's pimp….shudder….
What a cute idea! I know that we're all supposed to be above the merchandising and the commercialism, but it is a show about advertising. This actually fits in nicely as a novelty item. Not sure if I'd like it to go any further than experiments like this. However, I have adored the Dyna Moe paper dolls for over a year now.
Sorry, but this doll looks NOTHING like Don, and the hat looks like something Mona might've worn in Season 1. However, the box is cool.

I've read rumors that Mattel may do a MAD MEN Barbie and Ken as Betty and Don Draper. Here is my personal OOAK vintage Ken doll prototype for Don Draper:

I shoot for Haute Doll Magazine (www.hautedoll.com) and we'll be featuring an eight-page spread in our April 2010 issue of an amazing miniature reproduction of Don Draper's office, complete with furniture, as well as six of your favorite characters in 1:6 scale.
