I want a skit on "Betty Draper's Guide to Parenting."
1) Teach your children to mix killer cocktails.
2) Show your children how to shoot passenger pigeons.
3) When your children seek your attention, respond, "Go to your room." Or alternatively, "go watch television."
4) Buy their affection with presents, such as riding boots, although you don't want them to turn out like the litle girl in Gone with the Wind. When an infant joins the household, freak out your daughter by having the new baby give her a Barbie doll.
I hope Basket of Kisses was compensated for that Budweiser commercial I had to watch before the promos! I wonder if the Pete of the future will invent those …
This summer I saw January Jones in The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005), directed by and starring Tommy Lee Jones.
One could say that Tommy Lee Jones — and Jimmy Stewart — keep doing the same voice and almost the same character again and again. That doesn't mean we don't enjoy what they bring to the role and the film.
Meryl Streep can do a zillion voices and accents, but so can many voiceover actors. That doesn't mean they're interchangeable.
I think her "real life" speaking voice is different from Betty, always have. She enunciates less and her voice is "gutsier." There's almost a Shelly Winters quality to it. Betty is more traditionally feminine, more of a little girl.
She also had a great role as a sceaming, scamming con artist who thoroughly perplexed police/investigators and escaped arrest on Law & Order "Quit Claim"
Oh believe me, I'm a Betty Draper/JJ fan, I was just surprised to see how much "real life" January reminded me of her. I've never seen her out of character, that's all.
January had a small role in the movie "Bandits" from 2001 starring Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, Kate Blanchett. It's a 3/5 -ish stars type movie, but my husband and I actually liked it better than it's rating. Kate Blanchett is great in it and funny playing off the humor of the two guys. January's part is small but fun. I think it's one of the first movies she was ever in.
I've talked to her in real life (a number of years ago) and she has a great sense of humor. Subtle, dry, intelligent.
I cannot wait to see her on SNL. She has a huge future. I will not miss anything she does because of her work on MadMen. Last night I watched Rear Window and thought Grace Kelly was doing a Betty Draper imitation!
If you are reading this – January, you have a ton of fans who love you. Good luck Saturday noight.
I'd love to see Elisabeth on with her and maybe do a Peggy/Betty skit…those two never interact so it would interesting.

There's plenty of material.

Ok, now that is genius. I always thought a Betty Draper Guide to Parenting would make a great feature for AMC to do on their website.
I didn't recognize her. She was smiling.

Brenda… thats great!
Well … we will at least get to have a little Med Men this weekend!
but … Betty?
Does she really talk like that in real life? Oh dear.
Is she on SNL to promote something? I only ask because her appearence is obviously a week late to plug Mad Men. Just curious.
Matt, she's probably plugging "Pirate Radio," but someone said her role in the movie is very small.
Brenda, what a hoot! Any other guesses for SNL skit material for January? Something involving a washing machine, perhaps?
Elisabeth, your husband is darling!
Here's JJ on Jimmy Fallon.

And it looks as if Midge got married. Great catch! I love Ron Livingston.

January has been a lot of comedies. Love Actually, Pirate Radio this week, and she was in American Wedding as Stifler's love interest.
Thanks, all. You know that January was one of the hot Wisconsin babes in Love, Actually. Perhaps a takeoff on that?
I'm a little surprised at the way she says her first name — she kind of speeds it up. I was always taught that January had four distinct syllables.
She also had a great role as a sceaming, scamming con artist who thoroughly perplexed police/investigators and escaped arrest on Law & Order "Quit Claim"
