Folks, we have been busy, and I want to make sure you haven’t missed anything.

Over the weekend two exclusive Basket of Kisses interviews went up”one with Rich Sommer, and the other with Jon Hamm.

Hamm on Don’s rationalization for his affairs:

When you look at Don’s life and you look at his upbringing, this is a man who has, as you say, no vocabulary or tools equipped to be satisfied, to be happy. This is a man who very much lives his life from day-to-day. And so when these opportunities are put in front of you to see something different or to live another life, this is a man who has lived many lives. It’s a little easier for Don to rationalize that or compartmentalize that then it is for most people who have had examples of a happy mother and a happy father living a happy husband and wife existence. And that’s what they can base their married lives or their coupledom on that. Don didn’t have that, so I think he’s still kind of reaching for this happiness that is undefined in his world.

So in the meantime, Deb and I were running around doing last minute preparations for our 2nd annual BoK Mad Men season finale party. We even got a mention in the Daily News (see the sixth item).

A brief description of the party
The party was a wonderful success. Legends was such a great location”the room was perfect, the food was delicious, they did Man Men drink specials for us, and the staff was entirely accommodating.

B. Cooper gave us a Jeopardy game, and hullaballoo and Anne B. (both from California) as well as Marly K. were all in the house. AMC gave us Mad Men swag that we gave out all evening. So there we were, six Basketwriters and as many as 150 Mad Men fans/Basketcases, many in period clothing, all there for the main event, the airing of the finale.

So we didn’t even need no stinkin’ Michael Gladis to surprise us with a visit, which made it that much sweeter when he did.

It was what, 9:40? 9:45? I was pulling raffle tickets, and, even with my microphone, was having a hard time being heard. So I grabbed a chair, kicked off my shoes and climbed up. And there I am, addressing this noisy crowd on a chair in my fishnet stocking feet, when I see, at the other end of the bar, a very tall, handsome, clean-shaven man smiling up at me.

I heart Michael Gladis. We’ve spoken on the phone, we’ve emailed, we’ve even text messaged (I love annoying him on the way to an awards ceremony) so it didn’t even make sense that we’d never met. And it did in fact make perfect sense that he came to our party. Michael is very huggy.

Then of course, the show. The group experience. The screams and cheers. Michael in the house.

But from your perspective, those that were not with us but were following along at home, we want to thank you for coming out in droves to the Basket”the sheer volume of you broke our blog! Now, while we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and are doing everything we can to ensure that it does not happen again, at the same time please know that it’s kind of a special geek status symbol to break your blog. So thanks for helping Basket of Kisses break the internet.

Don’t forget to stick with us in the long dark downtime between seasons. We’ll bring you continuing discussions, more interviews, news and updates and an eye on season four.

Oh, don’t it feel so good to say season four?!!

  1. I am KICKING myself (KICKING! MYSELF!) that we didn't get a group Basketwriter photo.

I have other photos that will go up later. Or tomorrow.

  2. I can't wait to see the photos!!

You can just feel the excitement radiating from the first one of Mssr. Gladis between the Lipps. What a exciting, loud, and fulfilling evening this sounds like, befitting of the first truly hopeful episode we've been treated to all season! All that intelligence, eloquence, and unbridled passion in one room makes me giddy at the thought.

Thrilled to see what sorts of insights unfold here in the next nine months (more Pryce, perhaps?) — and I'm sure the next exhilarating chapter will be here before we know it.

  3. Photos are on our facebook page. We'll cross-post them here soon, but if you can't wait…!

  4. I need to link up or start a Basket case/Mad Men group in the Ft. Worth area!

I'm out here in the wilderness of Texas!

  5. Great recap of the party — almost felt like I was there! Well, not really, but I'm happy you had such a great turnout and fantastic time.

I look forward to reading this blog during the dark months without our beloved show!

  6. It sounds like a fantastic party. I wish I was there.

  7. I loved watching it with you guys…it felt like watching a movie at a theater…the various cheers, laughs, the 'oh snap/oh shit!!' reactions….and of course Michael a few inches away.

    Great cake too!

  8. It was so cool watching the show with Michael only a few feet away. It was surreal watching him watch the show. Lipp Sisters, thank you again for planning a wonderful event, and thank you to my fellow basketcases for being there to make it a real group experience, and an unforgettable night.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
