So glad I made it to the end of this interview, because his last two statements were so gratifying. I feel like less of loser for telling my friends who don't watch "but it's amazing, it's like a novel, a GOOD novel, there are so many layers, and so much character and plot development and so much symbolism and it's even better when you have people to dissect it all with!" even though I know most are going to look at me like I'm crazy and shoot me down with, "How can a television show have all that? It's TV. It's not Gatsby or Of Mice and Men or Macbeth." It's special.

Rich said: "I hesitate to say that because I’m involved in it, but I’m so fucking proud of what this group of people has done. The entire group from top to bottom. The amount of energy that it takes to make one episode from the gestation of it in the writers’ minds to the final cut in the editing room is enormous. And I’ve very excited to be a tiny little part of it. And to have a group like you guys who recognize that and celebrate that is something that makes us all feel a little relieved I think."

An awesome thing about Mad Men, is that you see all the talent & work that goes into each episode - and yet, you don't see it. When you can be so caught up in a show, that you forget that you're watching a show, well that's really something.

There's no need to be at all modest, Rich. You're way more than a "tiny little part" of the well-deserved success of Mad Men!

As others have noted here, TV advertising will be bigger and better than ever as the show (and the 60s) unfold. You're the HEAD of the Television Department, dammit! Hold your head up, high and proud!

Thank you Roberta (and Rich) for another fine Mad Men interview!

Ooh! Jungian analysis of the characters! I can do that! I have the background in that!

And I've read P.T. Anderson talking extensively about the Magnolia numerology. It's totally out there.

Okay, but *are* they smoking real cigarettes, and what *is* in their glasses when they drink at the office?

I can't stand it that tonight is the finale. What the fuck am I going to do for the next year?

Great interview! I love Magnolia too. I really enjoyed getting Rich's commentary on various Harry scenes. I always wish there was more of Harry.

Thank you for another wonderful interview. I especially enjoyed the line "The difference between being a man and being one of the guys." Harry seems very unsure of what his place is, which appeals to me. I can't wait to see what happens to him tonight and next season.
