Mad News, Aug 25-28, 2009

August 28, 2009 By: Karl Category: AMC, Actors & Crew, Media-Web-News, Vintage and Period

Cleveland Magazine covers “Life According to Mad Men’s Rich Sommer.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes that “Love Among the Ruins” drew 1.91 million viewers, “down 30% from the prior week, but still well above (+26%) the 13-episode season-two arc, which averaged 1.52 million viewers.”

When the Hofstadts arrived at the Draper home bearing Pat’s Steaks, it was red meat for the Philadelphia Inquirer and and the Philadelphia City Paper.

The L.A. Times has a little background on Ada Louise Huxtable, the New York Times architecture critic mentioned in “Love Among the Ruins.”

The New York Times has Huxtable’s “How to Kill a City,” which ran on May 5, 1963, following the City Planning Committee’s decision that January to tear down Penn Station.

The Awl surveys Huxtable, Patio Diet Cola and Yetta Wallenda.

Entertainment Weekly’s Ken Tucker marvels at Don Draper’s handling of the Gene issue.

Alison Brie did a photoshoot for NYLON magazine that sounds a little wild. But she’s still holding out on us (understandably so, really).

BNET’s Jim Edwards critiques Sterling-Copper’s new account services structure.

TV Guide lists “12 Ways Mad Men Could Still Jump the Shark.”

Country singer Jack Ingram tells Entertainment Weekly that he is mad about Mad Men.

Aaron Cohen has compiled Everything Don Draper Said Season 2.

Aaron Staton talks to Starpulse about newly crowned co-head of accounts Ken Cosgrove (who has over 20 thousand followers on Twitter).

The Season 3 premiere is available on Hulu until Sept. 22, 2009.

At Politics Daily, Mary C. Curtis prefers Roger Sterling to Don Draper, and Bonnie Goldstein wants Mad Men’s women to compare notes.

WaPo’s Tom Shales doesn’t get it.

Add BSCReview to the list of sites doing a weekly Mad Men review.

The Canadian CanMag interviews Jon Hamm.

AMC has a mini-interview with Jared Harris. Reading that, not only was his father Richard Harris, but his step-father was Rex Harrison, all I could think was “Some people are not like me.”

Christina Hendricks is set to star alongside Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel in Warner Bros. romancer “Life as We Know It.”

Flavorwire lists “10 Things That Suck About Being Joan” and reviews “Bye Bye Birdie,” with embedded videos.

Janie Bryant is quoted in yet another Associated Press piece on Mad Men fashion.

TimeOut New York plots out a Mad Men walk.

Julie McNiven (Hildy) will also be returning to another gig at Supernatural.

At the L.A. Times, Meghan Daum argues that if Mad Men and thirtysomething prove anything, it’s that every generation takes a little longer to grow up.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer also compares Mad Men to thirtysomething.

AfterElton comments on the tempest in a teapot that is straight backlash against Sal getting lucky.

Packaging Digest loves Mad Men! AMC’s packing of Mad Men, as well as period stuff like Patio’s original can.

I believe Don Draper said, “Vichyssoise,” not “vishyswas.” I know it’s just the Internets and all, but it really turns me off when a writer cares so little that he can’t be bothered to take five seconds to look something like that up. He doesn’t even have to walk across the room to get the dictionary anymore. It’s like prefacing your work with “I don’t give a damn.”

    Hi,
Thanks for noting my critique of the account services mess at Sterling Cooper. I have also pointed out that Don Draper is largely incompetent as a creative director:

There's a lot of tweets going around about the cast being on an upcoming ep of Oprah…something to look out for possibly.
