Tom Matlack interviews Matt Weiner for the Huffington Post. This is one of the most intimate and revealing interviews Matt has done (revealing about himself, not about spoilers or anything). (h/t Basketcase Ellen.)

How to have a Mad Men wedding.

Starpulse has fresh interview with Vincent Kartheiser. So does Salon (thanks, hullaballoo), but you might want to wait until after Sunday to read it. It’s not really a spoiler, but it’s very very VERY hinty and I would avoid it if I were you. (It’s a charming interview.)

Très Sugar compiles Mad Men quotes about sex.

A cute parody of Mad Men: “Mad Women,” with gender reversals throughout.

Several people sent us this cute Salon article about the absence of shorthand on Mad Men. Hell, I remember shorthand from offices in the 1980s!

The New York Times food section has an article about a toddler making cocktails. Of course, Mad Men is mentioned.

The Times is basically Mad Men Mad. This article on the cocktails of Mad Men catches a goof we’d missed (I’m adding it to our records now!) and also gives S3 “spoilers” (only on what drinks are served). (From Basketcase Allison.)

…And this article is basically a love song to Jon Hamm, complete with a video of his entire Tonight Show appearance! (Sent lovingly by Basketcase Debbie.)

House Beautiful is having a Mad Men themed kinda week. They have a Mad Men Home Accessories slide show, and some of the items will make you drool. I especially love a close cousin of Betty’s sexy headboard. And there’s a look back at the House Beautiful of the 1960s. And you can vote on how Betty would decorate.

Christina Hendricks drinks champagne.

MacLeans ruminates on the women of Mad Men.

We Heart This is having a Mad Men week. Tuesday is Mad Men Theme Party day.

Oprah.com has an article on the women, and women writers, of Mad Men. (h/t Basketcase Julie J.)

More about the BMW ad campaign that launches with Mad Men on Sunday.

The NY Post tells men how to look a little more Mad:

most guys could benefit from going a little more Roger Sterling and a little less Roger Rabbit.

January Jones does an ad spot for Oceana.

Film Freak Central offers a thoughtful video essay on the use of the camera in Mad Men. (h/t House Next Door.)

Feministing can’t wait for Season 3 to begin. Read all the way through to the end where Ann links to additional feminist and race-oriented blog posts about Mad Men.

The Boston Herald’s Tenley Woodman writes a compelling review that’s spoiler-free. The Buffalo News is also artful in avoiding giving too much away, and profiles Hamm in the mix.

Basketcase Nomie pointed us to this article on racism in Mad Men in Double X. I disagree with a lot of its points, and it gets some MM trivia wrong, but it’s worth reading.

SPOILER RUNDOWN: EW has a review of the S3 opener by Ken Tucker that is loaded with spoilers (and then coyly says, “but ” well, I can’t give it away. Let’s talk afterward, shall we?”). No link from the Basket! The Canadian Press (Frazier Moore) is also spoilery (not as bad as EW, though). Bloomberg’s Dave Shiflet is even worse than EW. Chuck Barney of the Mercury News is only a little spoilery.

Television Without Pity reveals the start year, but no other details, in this article about cultural references they hope to see.

  1. The NY Times article references Mad Men but fails in really nailing it by referring to Sally actually MAKING the cocktails for Don and Betty! Missed opportunity.

  2. Alan Sepinwall has a long interview with Jon Hamm today: http://www.nj.com/entertainment/tv/index.ssf/2009…
I haven't read the whole thing yet, but Sepinwall is very good about not spoiling.

  3. I've decided not to read ANY advance reviews. I don't trust anyone.

  4. Vanity Fair does more interviews with John Slattery and Janie Bryant:

  5. I'm annoyed by the "spoiler" on the channel guide/description of the premiere! Thanks for the "EW" warning, I will avoid that article when I get it in the mail today. I'll read it Sunday night.

  6. For those in the Boston area, Noir is having a Mad Men party for the premiere on Sunday night. You're encouraged to come dressed for the period.

    21+. 9 p.m. No cover. Noir, One Bennett St., Cambridge. 617-661-8010. noir-bar.com

  7. I love the House Beautiful article! After seeing a bunch of my Grandma's kitchen stuff in Peggy's sister's apartment, I like to freeze-frame shots that have a lot of decor or props and look at all the period set dressings.

  8. Will MM Season 3 be airing in England concurrently with the US? Given the British merger with Sterling Cooper it's going to be even more interesting to hear what the British take will be on Season 3–and they loved Seasons 1 and 2.

  9. No such luck, SFCaramia, Mad Men won't be on British tv until next year (unless someone would like to thrill me and tell me otherwise).

  10. In the EW recap video, I love how they could have cut Pete & Trudy's scene in half and still made the same point, but they had to keep it longer so we could hear Pete say, "Hell's bells, Trudy!"

  11. Pretty funny interview video from the premier last week…

  12. Miss Blankenship was taking shorthand notes in the merger meeting. In Three Sundays, there was a secretary in Pete's office (Allison?) taking notes from the meeting there. Pete excused her when Roger stepped in to inquire about Vicky, the prostitute accompanying Marty Hasselbach in the restaurant meeting. They have slipped it in, here and there.

    • I think the shorthand exists, but the point is it's very understated and would have a more active role, even just vocabularily speaking, than it does. If I'm interpreting correctly.

  13. Sorry. The secretary in Pete's office was "Mary," played by Britt Hysen.

  14. What did you think of this article in the Baltimore Sun?
    http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/tv/bal-…

They weren't loving the historical accuracy of the events in Baltimore.

Not that any real fan really cares all that much . It's television fiction, after all.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
