OK! has an interview with January Jones about body types on Mad Men. It seems to maybe perhaps contain a spoiler, except it’s not released with that breathless scoopy air about it, so maybe not.

Jonathan Storm has a couple of revealing not-spoiler tidbits on the Season 3 opener:

“You’ll be learning a lot more about Sal,” says Bryan Batt, who plays Salvatore Romano…”I can’t tell you what you’ll learn, but it’s fun.”

…”The theme of the show has always been, people change,” says Weiner. “The season opens with a shot of Don’s bare feet. He’s going to have to deal with who he really is, and we’re going to have to deal with how that person continues to live in the world of the show.”

Ellen Gray gets some great quotes from Jon Hamm about Season 2 as well as Season 3 (no spoilers).

…But not everyone can track Hamm down.

It was the pilot for Mad Men that persuaded Bryan Cranston to do Breaking Bad.

MadMenYourself is the first of three apps to be released for pre-season buzz purposes. Yay!

Speaking of which, the entire staff of Salon’s Broadsheet MadMen’ed themselves.

Creativity Online invites you to rate the MadMenYourself ad campaign, and SparkBlog loves it very, very much. And AdWeek sees MadMenYourself as part of a new trend in advertising: Tying in a brand face with Twitter and Facebook.

You can follow Robert Morse on Twitter @robertalanmorse. Rich Sommer confirms it’s really him. And our own Karl made his avatar!

Christina Hendricks shares some wedding plans. She is also profiled in New York Magazine, and interviewed by Esquire, along with photos that will knock your socks off.

…She also has a great story about her red hair.

Plus, London’s Independent thinks Ms. Hendricks would be a good choice to play Marilyn Monroe in a film adaptation of My Week With Marilyn.  And yes, the Maidenform quote appears.

New York Magazine defends Pete Campbell, with help from Matt Weiner.

Despite a lack of Emmy nominations, True Blood DVDs sell better than Mad Men, maybe because HBO is a for-pay service, and fewer people are paying, preferring to wait for DVD.

The Emmys are changing their format; pushing many mini-series and television movie awards out of the main broadcast. The Gold Derby gets into what that means to the business of the Emmys.

Popeater interviews Elisabeth Moss.

Newsweek jumps on the Mad Men bandwagon. Turns out they have no Season 3 secrets to reveal. Who’d have guessed?

Janie Bryant takes us on a tour of her costume shop.

In the News You Never Thought You’d See department:

According to Miranda Barry of the Sesame Workshop, Sesame Street will parody Mad Men during the show’s 40th anniversary season.

Flavorwire jumps on the news with “10 Muppets and Their Mad Men Counterparts.”

Basketcase stephanie found these pictures of the cast of Mad Men at a promo party. If January Jones doesn’t get fugged for her nipple-pocket look, I’ll be astonished.

Basketcase Allison sent us a link to this Overrated/Underrated article in the LA Times, with Vincent Kartheiser listed as underrated.

Plus, actual video of the world’s handsomest man talking about Mad Men and advertising.

Matt Weiner will be a featured panelist at the 16th Annual Austin Film Festival & Conference in Austin, Texas, October 22-29, 2009.

Diane Keaton is venturing into series television with a half-hour comedy at HBO written by Marti Noxon, who was a consulting producer on eight episodes of Season Two of  Mad Men.

Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett bumped the Mad Men from the September cover of Vanity Fair.  Somehow, Joan Holloway would understand.

AMC is soliciting questions for Matt Weiner this week.  Matt also shares a lesson from his writing career that Ken Cosgrove already learned.

Jon Hamm is a fan of Dr. Who, and Dr. Who is a fan of Jon Hamm.

The success of AMC is in the writing:

The key to good storytelling is specificity, [Matt] Weiner said.

“I’m not that good. These are things that actually happened to people I know.”

  1. Bummer…I would've loved to have seen the Vanity Fair cover.

  2. Re: True Blood. I'm think it's very good, if slightly overbearing and a bit too familiar in territory. I think it's fun, sexy and interesting sometimes but it's sometimes heavy-handed with the equality parable. It's very good TV, though.

Very cool Tennant is a fan of Mad Men. Doctor Who's great.

  3. True Blood is a lot of fun, and their DVD sales have been monstrous, like very abnormal. TVbythenumbers said that Mad Men's first week of sales was up 300% more than last year though, which is always interesting.

  4. Peggy = Prairie Dawn. lol!

  5. Apparently more of the Mad Women have made it to Esquire:

    January is "endorsed":

    While others are "appreciated":

  6. So now that it wont beon the upcoming Vanity Fair cover will it still in said issue or will it be bumped back a month? Also I heard that the Farah Fawcett piece turns into a Ryan O'Neill tell all and he comes off worse than you would expect. Really feel like she lost a huge chunk of her life to him.

Thank you for the blitz in Mad Men publicity that will distract me from that.

  7. Also how come the photo from the Newsweek article is not there?

  8. Mad Men has just been awarded the BAFTA for Best International Show for the 2nd year in a row.

    Congrats, show.

  9. January and Matt respond to winning Goldderby awards…Tom O'Neil posted it and the winner's are on the previous page…

  10. Poor JJ, having trouble maintaining her MM figure… ;) First off, honey, you gotta ditch that Amstel Light and enjoy yourself a proper beer!

CH's interview was also surprisingly cute… Although the pics belong on some Whitesnake album cover, I liked the little shout-out to Joan's mannerisms ("her eyelids crushing some hapless officemate"), and I *especially* loved CH's shout-out to chocolate-covered bacon. That woman owns.

  11. Those Vanity Fair photos of Jon and January are so damn sexy! I wish they had been on the cover.

I am so looking forward the the Sesame Street parody. Did you all see the "30 Rocks" ep? lol

  12. Some other "news", in case you guys weren't aware.

Jon Hamm is the guest on today's episode of The B.S. Report, a sports/entertainment podcast hosted by ESPN's Bill Simmons. You can download it via a link on http://www.espn.com or through iTunes of course.

I haven't listened yet, but here's the description:

"Bill Simmons and actor Jon Hamm discuss PEDs in baseball, celebrity softball, the upcoming season of Mad Men and the allure of California."

  13. Thought I'd mention: I saw the movie Funny People last night. There's a sequence at a bar in it where Adam Sandler's character meets up with people, and guess who is in it:

Mr. Bryan Batt and Ms. Maggie Siff. Batt plays a friend of Sandler's character who tries to set him up with… a woman named Rachel. Played by Maggie Siff.

    Very meta…
