Salon reviews the DVD commentary (h/t Basketcase Nepenthe).

We mentioned Jon in O Magazine last News, but didn’t have a link. Basketcase catherine provides.

Press release for the season premiere, reminding us it airs with “limited commercial interruptions.” We know from past seasons this means there will be a scene that will not be aired again, not even if they rebroadcast it immediately at 11pm, so bend heaven and earth to be in from of your television at 10.

Noir Bar in Boston, a Mad Men spot for some time now, is hosting a premiere party.

AMC is posting casting call photos and letting users vote (for the Banana Republic win a walk-on role contest).

AMC has hired Susie Fitzgerald as VP of Scripted Series; it’s unclear if she’ll be working directly with Mad Men.

TV Fodder has started a Mad Men Fodder blog. And they mentioned the Basket, so thanks!

Tim Goodman begins reporting from the Television Critics Association summer press tour. …and follows up with a report on how awesome AMC and Mad Men are.

Jon Hamm on the Beach. As hullaballoo said, isn’t that a drink that Sally can serve?

Bryan Batt has signed a book deal. Not a Mad Men tell-all, but a book on home decor.

Mad Men is the odds-on favorite for Emmy bettors.

Last night, as I was dropping off to sleep, for some reason I started thinking about the movie Gone, Baby, Gone. This morning, I saw this news item:

Ben Affleck has added Jon Hamm and Rebecca Hall to complete the central love triangle in “The City,” his directorial follow-up to the Oscar nominated “Gone Baby Gone.”

…and Basketcase Joy points out they’re filming on location in her hometown. Lucky girl.

AMC released a nine minute clip reel from The Prisoner at Comic-Con.

Cable360 reviews Season 3, Episode 1 sans spoilers; the headline echoes a prior comment from Bryan Batt.

At the New York Daily News, David Hinkley writes about Mad Men’s commitment to detail, then walks right up to the edge of spoilertown, though I think he’s speculating on general points.

January Jones is interviewed by Jack Nicholson for Interview magazine. Yeah, that Jack Nicholson. Pictures, video, yum.

A sweet fashion review of the film The Best of Everything (the one that disturbed Betty because of the Eyebrows).

Basketcase Beverly sent us this nice interview with Matt from the Wesleyan alumni magazine.

John Slattery plays Iron Man’s father in a flashback in Iron Man 2.

MadMenYourself avatars are already spreading on Twitter.

  1. I think that's really cool Slattery's in Iron Man 2. The first one was amazing. Good on him.

  2. Morse is on twitter…this should be fun:

  3. Hey! That's not an herbal cigarette!

  4. Those pictures of Jon on the beach were hot, but I feel kinda dirty just looking at them. I mean whoever took them is a stalker. Let the man have some privacy!

  5. I think whoever took them was with him on vacation! Some of them looked like the photographer was sitting next to him.

  6. If anyone has Itunes, the cast of Mad Men is featured on Celebrity Playlists.

  7. Someone on twitter laughed because John listens to Mos Def (which is cool b/c Mos Def is most definitely awesome… sorry ;) ) But John was also in a movie with him back in '98 called "Where's Marlowe?"

It's pretty good. Check it out.

  8. As an entertainment journalist I attended a number of Television Critics Association Death Marches with Cocktails in the 1990s, and it was as Tim Goodman says, including the snubbing of AMC, and critics bitching about the week throughout the free lunches, dinner parties and giveaways.

The giveaways: T-shirts, branded watches, tchotkes tied to a show or channel are no more, a press friend tells me.

Something or other about the worry that the critics might be considered bought by the trinkets.

Ha! Critics love their own opinions and I remember them excoriating the star of his eponymous (but wretched) show after having eaten a very nice salmon dinner hosted by the star and show.

I think the PR people loved the trinkets better than the journos — in hope of getting anyone to show for the panels of the despised cable channels like AMC.

As it was, transcripts of all panels were available within a day or so, so Goodman is also correct that that tidbits at cocktail parties are the only way a writer breaking info different from that of all the other critics.

  9. #11 In a way, even worse. I think I might be a little peeved if one of my friends sold photos of me to the press. Then again, it's not like this is going to become a problem for me.

The cool thing about Hamm is, he's so willing to make fun of the whole uber-hotness thing. It's like he sees it as a big joke.

  10. Apparently even the press is having a hard time talking to Jon Hamm (according to the LA Times). http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/07/tca-press-tour-chasing-jon-hamm.html

Huge thanks to Deborah for the thanks – I absolutely adore this site for it’s mix of wit and depth. You guys make the long wait between seasons almost tolerable.

  11. Agree with Nepenthe! This site is fabulous, and I’m glad I accidentally found it! Can’t wait to read it during the season.

I’m interested in reading the TV Fodder blog, but I hope the writer’s grammar improves. From the linked blog:

“What comes of the reveal that Betty is pregnant? Do her and Don get back together?”

“Do her and Don get back together?”?!?!?! Oof!!

  12. I should probably add that the picture of Don Draper in the article alone is worth clicking on the link. ;) (see post #4)

  13. Thanks to the Wesleyan interview, we now know where the chip’n'dip came from!

  14. Now what’s all this about scenes being cut? Last time an episode aired with ‘limited commercials’ was the S2 finale and it just ended 5 minutes early.

  15. I felt a strange sensation looking at those pictures of Jon on the beach – I think it was my ovaries growing back.

  16. I made Robert Morse's Twitter avatar. How AWESOME is that?

    Collect 'em all!

  17. Re “Jon on the beach” photos: SO. HOT.

    How hot?

    * So hot I had to bookmark them so I can find them again
    * So hot they now live in their own Favorites folder (called “sweet fancy jesus”)
    * So hot I felt guilty after I looked at them (for the fifth time)
    * So hot I confessed all of the above to my husband

Not to yank back a phrase from a girl who hasn’t got many original syllables to deploy in the first place … but in the words of Paris: THAT’S HOT.

  18. I will so be at Noir for the premiere party… all dolled up and praying that Jon Hamm will be there, too.

  19. It's just occurred to me that the Season 2 marathon is set for a…Monday? What? They're showing episodes all day, beginning at 7:00 am on a Monday? Ummmmm? Wouldn't Sunday, August 9 be better? You know, because people might be HOME on a Sunday to, you know, WATCH it? The entire world isn't updated to TIVO, folks.

  20. I know this isn't really relevant, but I just watched Funny People and I was like "What!? Bryan Batt and Maggie Siff's parts were just right after each other! And Bryan Batt looked like he just walked off the set of Mad Men! (maybe with an updated suit of course) :D "
