MadMenShow.com is having a season 2 DVD giveaway contest.

Here are 10 reasons to get into Mad Men. #7 is that the fans rock. Yay. But somehow, Basket of Kisses got left out of all the love. Boo.

Six quick questions for Alison Brie. And OMGZ the PICTURE!

A nice “I’m an insider” article on Mad Men that reminisces on marketing Tang, among other things.

Jon and John answer fan questions.

Our friend Nathaniel of The Film Experience notices how watching Mad Men causes him to see gender role inequities in film.

The New Yorker has an interesting article on the S3 Mad Men poster and on Mad Men marketing. Read all the way to the end for a cool Mets marketing tie-in.

…and AMC has a making-of video. Not Photoshop after all!

Gawker doesn’t like the drowning or some of the other promotions. Grumpy.

Janie Bryant interview.

Basketcase Debbie G. found a yummy homeboy article about Jon Hamm and sports.

Debbie also tells us that Jon Hamm is in the August issue of O Magazine (no link).

Just Jared does January: She’s on the cover of Interview magazine (also here) and interviewed as well.

Here’s the link to the GQ interview that we were all scoopy on.

Basketcase Scott found a YouTube interview with January Jones and Rose Byrne from THR.

Finally, I found two awesome shout-outs to the Basket. New York Magazine’s Culture Vulture, which I’ve quoted here like a million times, cites us as their source for the 10 Most Shocking Moments video.

And someone has put all sorts of character information from our Bible into Wikipedia. We are sourced in footnotes for Betty Draper and for Pete Campbell.

  1. Rose Byrne is hilarious in that interview, I’m really happy she got nominated, love her on Damages.

  2. Jane Campion made a movie about Keats? Count me in!

  3. There was also an article on Salon.com today about the Season 2 DVD commentaries.

  4. #3 Nepenthe

from the Salon link about the S2 DVD commentaries:

“…(Poor January Jones, bless her heart, is conversational deadwood.)…”

I laughed and sighed. January impresses me as a basically shy person.

  5. The Alison Brie picture? HOT!

  6. I think it's hysterical that John Slattery's dog is named "Peanut."

  7. Mad Men’s Emmy submissions…what do you think? Good or bad choices?

I would’ve chosen The New Girl for Elisabeth. The academy seemed to love The Jet Set, so I’m guessing that is the big ep to win this thing for the show.

  8. I love it. My father's nickname for me was "peanut."

Here's the link to the Oprah article on Jon Hamm's bookshelf:

  9. This is kind of off-topic but I have to share and ask if anyone else received anything.

I wrote a letter to Charlie Collier about Mad Men cutting two minutes for more commercials and I actually got a letter back from him thanking me for my interest in the show, with an attached article explaining the extra commercials but longer episodes to accomodate…. which I learned AFTER I sent the letter, but still.

Did he send anything to anyone else? I’m just glad it was read by someone because they have to know how rabid (we are) Mad Men’s fan base is. :)

I appreciate that he wrote me back and took the time to do so (maybe his secretary wrote it but he did sign it so…) b/c I really wasn’t expecting a response. I just wanted them to keep the same length of the show.

  10. OK, I'm even more in love with Jon Hamm now that I know he likes Jonathan Lethem and Michael Chabon. But how annoying is Oprah's website? Sell adspace much?

  11. Does Oprah have a website? Does Oprah have a show? A Book Club? A Magazine? I forgot. my best friend always tells me, "thou shalt not insult Oprah". …

  12. Well, Mad News launched a little early this week… and Deborah had everything I had!

On the S2 commentary, I wonder whether JJ says less this year because she's paired with JH and MW. She was pretty quirky and fun with VK on the S1 commentary for "Red in the Face." Conversely, EM is much funnier on the group commentary for "Meditations" than any of her solo commentary from S1.

  13. Karl, I had a sort of mental block on anything else to say, so I posted the news. :)

  14. A Mad Men fedora in Mets colors?

    WANT.

(And I don't even live in New York now.)

I was thinking that too, they should've paired her up with VK again, they were cute together. The most lively commentary involved Christina H. and Robert Morse. They were great…

  16. Sure. I just sent the text of his letter to your lippsisters email address, so hopefully it came through ok.
