The Big Fat DVD snafu–Find the lost commentaries!

July 16, 2009 By: Roberta Lipp Category: Continuity and Goofs, Media-Web-News, Season 2, Stuff to Buy

Thanks so much Jorie, who posts on Television Without Pity, (and who is also a Basketcase) for this:

People…think that on the regular DVD set for Season 2 there are no commentaries for “The Benefactor,” “Maidenform,” “Six Month Leave,” “The Mountain King,” and “Meditations In An Emergency.”

There ARE commentaries for these episodes, but the DVD production people forgot to include menus for them. (On the “Audio Commentaries” menus under Special Features, only the first two episodes are listed. There is no “next” option.) The commentaries for these episodes can be accessed by playing the episode and using the “audio” button on your DVD player’s remote.

Jorie, thanks so much for this explanation.

Basketcases, let’s be careful out there!

You don’t need to press the audio button once the episode starts. on the menu for the commentaries, go to the bottom where it says special features or something like that and there is an arrow to the right of that. Hit the arrow and it will go to a separate page with the other commentaries

Wow, that IS a big mistake!

You can access them by clicking the “>” arrow next to the text that says Special Features. But you have to click that arrow. If you click “Special Features” it takes you back to the “Special Features” menu.

Hulla’s right. It’s a weird set-up, but not as big a snafu as advertised.

I feel like a genius right now

Yeah you just hit the arrow, it’s more of a weird formatting thing. I watched The Benefactor commentary last night and it was hilarious with Lesli, Melinda and Rich.

Also one thing I never noticed in the finale is that the guy Betty picks up is wearing a wedding ring…not that it’s super important but I was like oh…

    #7 JS

Oh! Maybe the fact he had the ring on either gave Betty extra motivation or made it easier for her.

Geez, that’s a HUGE mistake!! Oh well, at least now I know. Being a Basketcase definitely has its perks!

Thanks guys! I was super-confused, and as I have the tendency to watch DVDs laaate into the night, when I’m not exactly observant, I probably wouldn’t have figured this out myself.

Oh, and random fangirl question: is VK married? I thought I heard something about that on the Flight 1 commentary…I was half-asleep though..

VK = single, as far as I know.

    Good to hear ;) .

Listened to all the commentaries over the weekend.

I had to laugh when MW mentions the jardiniere in episode 2.10 The Inheritance. It would not surprise me if he was lurking while we had our BoK discussion about it.

    There is no snafu.

All the commentaries are accessible from the Special Features menu just as hullaballoo said. Just click the “>” option besides the “Special Features” option in the Commentary section to see the second page.

Not so much a snafu as poor interface design.
