At first we held back on posting this, because it was only on Spoiler TV. Then Spoiler TV had to take down their pictures. Now it’s on EW’s Popwatch, and I’m confident it’s a legit release.

So here it is:

  1. Umm…ok? He's slowly drowning?

  2. Not so different than falling off a building, right? Works for me.

  3. Or knee deep in something and with Don Draper, that could be a lot of things… work, family life/problems…

  4. Sally: Knock knock.

    Don: Who's there?

    Sally: Dwayne.

    Don: Dwayne who?

Sally: Dwayne the bath tub, mommy, I'm dwowning.

  5. Fabulous picture. I don't know how this stuff works – but I'm guessing this is photo-shopped?? They did not make the most handsome man on earth sit in water to shoot this??

  6. Made me think that Don is on a sinking ship [his life as he knows it].

  7. He's at the office, so maybe it's Sterling Coo that's dwowning. Don looks pretty relaxed, considering.

  8. I just think it's very telling. Everything about this show can be connected to something that was laid out earlier. Why did Sally choose that particular knock-knock joke? There are so many to choose from, even some which are better known.

  9. Look out for the "sharks", (aka PP&L).

  10. Oh man! My mind is now flooded (no pun intended!) with ideas about what's next!!!! This is a fantastic photo-shop job, I looked at the bigger version on the EW site, and it really looks real! Yet I know they wouldn't wreck that great set and those gorgeous clothes for this! Wow. Just Wow. SO much symbolism here, Don's up to his knees in the flood of what the 60's will be. He's seeing the drowning of all that he has ever known, with no idea of how society will change. Although I don't think he looks relaxed, there's a bit of a scowl on his face, a crack in the perfect facade. Don is slowly drowning.

  11. p.s. …I wonder if Betty has 'floated away'?

  12. "Made me think that Don is on a sinking ship [his life as he knows it]."

A ship of fools, perhaps? LOL

  13. Man in the boat overboard.

  14. Maybe he's in hot water at work. I doubt the merger with the Brits will be completely smooth sailing. Or he's just trying to stay afloat with all the social changes that are coming.

  15. Is that a pack of cigarettes floating on top?

  16. In the Tarot, water is a symbol of life, birth and/or rebirth. That same symbolism was used in "Meditations In An Emergency". The water in the poster is displayed in a much different context but it is in keeping with the ongoing "Mad Men" theme of things being not quite what they seem on the surface. Can't wait to dive in.

  17. If there's anything sexier than Jon Hamm, It's Wet Jon Hamm.

  18. [...] brenda asked if the Season 3 poster showed a floating pack of cigarettes (it does). I did a search on “mad men season 3 [...]

  19. They DID make the most gorgeous man on earth sit in water for this picture!! No photo-shop!! Here is an interesting article from the New Yorker about how to market "Mad Men" for season 3 and how they made this poster… interesting read for all basketcases!!

  20. The AMC MM site has a video on the making of the poster.

  21. Also, turns out that they did photos with the water rising higher!

  22. Wow…so they really did it in water, I'm thinking the whole thing is photoshopped! LOL

  23. I just kept saying "WOW!" when I watched the video on the making of the poster. They chose to actually do it, not just photoshop it!

All I have to say is wow.

  24. I just found that video of how the poster was made! WOW! What a soggy adventure– and the water rose even higher!! I'm very impressed!!!!
