As has been suggested by smart fans, AMC is going to run the show past 11pm to accommodate the need for extra advertising without damaging the show. A technical solution has been worked out so as not to mess up those of us who use DVRs.
YAY!
(Added: The article also states August 16 as the premiere date, but I’m unclear at this moment if this is official.)

***THANK YOU AMC FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING!***
When I first read the article, there was a line saying that AMC chose to emphasize the positive in the announcement, including the premiere date and the limited commercial breaks for the first episode. That line has apparently been taken out now, but presumably the announcement itself didn't change.
Great news! Especially considering that 27 minutes of screen time would have been excised had AMC foolishly gone forward with the original plans.
So what made AMC finally see the light? Was it Matthew Weiner and his cast and crew? The vehemently negative press in Deadline Hollywood Daily and elsewhere? Or the outrage of we fans here at Basket of Kisses? Or all of these things?
I'd prefer less commercials and still have Mad Men run long, but I'll take what I can get. This is fine.
And this makes up for it a little:
"And the first episode of the new season will run with limited commercial breaks."
*happy dance*
I'm sure the BoK outrage was a key decision factor! For once, a smart CUSTOMER focused business decision…
Tvbythenumbers posted the AMC press release about August 16th today.
Hallelujah! I think that BoK had a lot to do with this decision.
