Melinda (Bobbie Barrett) has contributed a very personal essay to a collection called NOTE TO SELF: 30 Women on Hardship, Humiliation, Heartbreak, and Overcoming It All, edited by Andrea Buchanan, published by Simon and Schuster.

I reached out to Melinda to get a bit of background. She told me:

Its a wonderful book full of inspiring and funny stories. Some of the contributors include Sheryl Crow, Mariska Hargitay, Carol Leifer, Kathy Nijimy, Camryn Manheim. I am honored to be a part of it.

It has been received beautifully, and I am excited to be reading my piece on Friday night along with Kathleen Dennehy and Andrea Buchanan at BOOK SOUP, one of the great literary landmarks in Los Angeles. Starts at 7:00. Wine to be served, inspiration to follow!

Trust me, if it was local for me and Deb, we’d be there. If any of you Basketcases go, have a blast, tell her we sent you, and come back and tell us about it.

If I were, I'd hop a plane and fly down there from San Francisco to see her tomorrow.

Please understand: I would only be doing this for Melinda. I grew up in Los Angeles, and generally dislike the place.

But I LOVE Melinda. That onscreen presence! That voice — somehow both smoky and flinty at once! It's like the back of the matchbook after you strike the match!

BTW, this book is on my Amazon wish list …

  3. On another note, Q&A with Gabriel Mann (Arthur Case)

Gabriel is a former model, and take it from me, as Arthur Case he looks just like the guys modeling underwear in the Sears catalogue back in the day.

And the AMC blog is also offering the opportunity to Ask Jon Hamm and John Slattery Your Questions:
