Progressive Marge
Stephanie Courtney (Marge) with her Progressive ads is going the way of some of the greats; Dick Wilson (Mr. Whipple), Michael Vale (Fred the Baker from Dunkin Donuts), Nancy Walker (Rosie the waitress of Bounty paper towel fame), and Jan Miner (Madge, the manicurist and Palmolive enthusiast).
I wonder if the Progressive ads will have the longevity of some of these other classics–even the Maytag repairman has been resurrected.
And I wonder if Sterling Cooper would have come up with such a campaign.
This morning she popped up in my Yahoo account! We love her.

I personally love the Flo character, and wish we’d see more of Courtney on Mad Men (the switchboard in Smoke Gets in Your Eyes also sported another great woman comedian, Kristen Schaal as Nanette, who is also featured on Flights of the Conchords and the Daily Show.)
I’m not surprised Courtney came from the Groundlings: they’re the top improv group in L.A. from which some of the best comedians have graduated: Laraine Newman, Pee Wee Herman (Paul Rubens), and Phil Hartman, just to name a few.

Roberta – I tried e-mailing you (roberta@basketofkisses.com) but your filter didn’t accept my g-mail account. I intended to send you this link:

Matt McKenzie (aka Crab Colson) is the latest spokeman for Foster’s Farm Chickens. He plays a plastic surgeon and has a great Burt Reynolds 70’s moustache in this ad. Also note how the chickens pronounce “Doc” – they sound like they are saying “Duck”.
Apologies if I didn’t follow proper protocol. I think you have a good laugh. “Crab, Duck. Duck, Crab”
