Mad News, Feb 13-21, 2009

February 21, 2009 By: Deborah Lipp Category: AMC, Actors & Crew, Media-Web-News

A little bio on the real people behind the Mad Men Twitter accounts. Also, AMC interviews the real @PeggyOlson.

The London Times loves season 2 of Mad Men (called series 2 in British lingo) less than season 1. But of course, most of us were shaky after the first episode. They don’t realize what brilliance is in store.

As other sources have done, the Denver Post tells us that network TV is doomed, and cable, home to Mad Men, is where it’s at.

Similarly, C21 Media is optimistic about cable TV growth.

An interview with Revolutionary Road’s Oscar-nominated costume designer touches on the costume differences between RR and Mad Men.

Fits News is in love with Stephanie Courtney, but Roberta got there first.

Metroactive has an article on Mad Men fashion, specifically how to dress like an up-to-date Joan Holloway.

Another style article talks about the influence on style of TV and movies. Mad Men is mentioned towards the end.

This is driving me crazy. I am sure I posted a link to this charming Bryan Batt interview, focusing on decorating and home goods, in a previous Mad News, but I can’t find it.

Basketcase simone found hot pictures of January Jones out on the town.

TV Squad’s Bob Sassone wants you to vote on the best show on TV: Lost, Mad Men, or other.

Basketcase Aulelia has kindly been sharing UK Mad Men ratings. Week one. Week two.

Basketcase Michael found this cute video of Elisabeth Moss talking about her favorite New York things.

In this compelling article about the female sexual desire from a feminist perspective, Amanda Marcotte mentions Mad Men favorably as a show that sees the complexities.

A quick article about Rosemarie DeWitt’s amazing year.

Nice homegirl story on Christina Hendricks.

    Hey Basketcases!

I just watched this week’s recording I had of “New Adventures of Old Christine” and there was Lois from Mad Men playing the love interest of Matthew (the lunch lady). Good to see her in a comic role! Just wanted to pass it on.

USA’s Psych gave a nod and a wink to Mad Men on it’s Season Finale Episode
last night. The hilarious Shawn Spencer (James Roday) introduces Gus (Dule Hill) as “This is my partner Sterling Cooper”.

Ah yes, Amanda Marcotte: good writer on feminist and gay (and otherwise)issues.

But Pandagon.net also handles topics with a light touch.

    My fave feminist blog.

I’m a big fan of Amanda and Pandagon. That was not a case where I was looking for MM references; I read it regularly. Several feminist blogs are MM fans; Pandagon, Feministe, and I think Feministing as well.

FYI Mad Men fans, the TV ratings for the UK this week improved by a lot ( I think).

Of this series, it was 148K, which was an improvement from the figure I heard of last week’s ep I believe of 104K.

    Yay.

*p/s – I don’t know why I am such an aspiring TV executive with how I look for the ratings. I just am so into this show. It deserves a bigger audience.

I think a lot of this has to do with how BBC are marketing the show. No promotion at all!

Dexter got 1m last week. Damages got 1m always well. Not fair (but I am a fan of both of those shows too).

← Season 2 coming back (March 8/9)!

Advertising is based on one thing: Happiness. And you know what happiness is? Happiness is the smell of a new car… It’s freedom from fear. It’s a billboard on the side of the road that screams with reassurance that whatever you’re doing is okay. You are okay. — Don Draper, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
