Season 2 coming back (March 8/9)!

February 20, 2009 By: Deborah Lipp Category: AMC, Season 2

AMC has the scoop (well, who else would?). Starting March 8, every Sunday at midnight, following season 2 of Breaking Bad.

And of course they post it wrong, just as they did last year. Midnight makes it Monday, March 9, not Sunday, March 8 as they posted. But if you notice, they also posted that it is immediately following Breaking Bad, which is Sunday, March 8 at 11pm.

Set your DVR.

I think midnight makes it Sunday night, but I think they should take the extra step to say that, just for clarification.

What they posted last year was Monday, 12am. Which, though technically accurate, was crazy impossible to interpret.

They clarified it, saying right in the blog post that it was after Breaking Bad. Last year they just let us weep.

It’s technically wrong, but it’s industry standard. Otherwise you get thousands of angry emails. It used to be my job to read them for a network, so I know what I’m talking about! This is one case where we just have to suppress our inner know it alls.

Funny mini-topic! I’ve had “arguments” for years with people over whether 12-noon is actually a.m. or p.m.. And the reverse argument for 12-midnight.

Technically, 12-noon is 12:00 p.m. But as Lindsay suggests above, if you list something as starting at “12 p.m.”, a good 50% of the folks will tune in at midnight. Same (in reverse) for 12 a.m. – ESPECIALLY if you also change the day. As Roberta says, if you (accuraely) list the show as starting at “12:00 a.m. Monday” – probably HALF the people will look for it at Noon on Monday. Even worse, if you list the show as starting at “midnight Monday” – most people will look for it very late Monday night. Go figure.

So broadcasters have “hedged” this for years, thinking that the best way to avoid customer confusion is to suggest that the 12:00-midnight slot really flows from the 11:00p.m. slot and therefore they relate it to the same day – even though Deborah is correct that technically it doesn’t.

    “Who’s” on first???

I’ve never confused 12am and 12pm. I feel smug and superior!

I also feel very happy that we are going to get to see S2 again. I had all the episodes on my DVR then the stupid thing broke and when my cable company swapped it out I lost all my recordings which really wasn’t such a bad thing except it had all my MM S2 episodes on it so even though it should be a minor thing to swap out a DVR I was majorly bummed and in a funk for about a week.

It’s hard to remain smug and superior after a run-on sentence. :)

I lost a zillion old movies and the first episode of S2 when my DVR died. Turns out it’s just a hard drive. A hard drive you can’t back up. They rebroadcast FTWTY at some point and I have it now.

Wow, I didn’t think I’d get a lesson on Am and PM here, but you never know what will happen with the basketcases!

So excited for the new season!
