As any true geek knows, the geek is in his (or her) element when engaged in a favorite game. The best opponents are close friends. And the best games never really end.

My best friend in high school, Eddie, had these epic battles going on with all his guy friends. Also neighborhood kids. And later, his brother's Marine buddies. Role-playing video games and chess were his favorites, but he once kept the Kool-aid squirt gun under the sofa for a week. Because the game wasn't over.

Whatever you're doing the rest of the time doesn't really matter. The game is the thing. And it's a jerk-free zone, so you don't challenge true enemies to your game. (Candy Land, maybe. Not yours.) Your friends get to go there with you. Any abuse they receive is a freaking honor.

For the Nerd-Off, I suggest a game of Hearts (it's seasonal, deceptive, ruthless and fun).
