Mad Men Revue 2 – Viva Las Vegas

January 30, 2009 By: hullaballoo Category: Actors & Crew, Characters, Media-Web-News, TV-Film-Culture, Vintage and Period

Back in October, I covered the MM Revue (“A Night on the Town w/ MM”) for The Basket when it played at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. I was amazed at the Mad talent of the Mad cast, and received one of THE thrills of my life when Robert Morse planted one on yours truly — without my having to lobby for it. No lie. He just grabbed me, and kissed me. And I’m not even cute. Well, not that cute. We all have our moments…

So the popularity of that October event spawned a repeat, which played this past Tuesday in Vegas. Essentially, it was the same show, but with the added talents of Rich Sommer, Julie McNiven, Audrey Wasilewski (Peggy’s sister Anita) and a cameo stage appearance by Christina Hendricks. Dar Williams also got a solo stint this time, whereas before she was relegated to backing up Colin Hanks. Well, mostly…Check out Variety’s take on it, then come back to The Basket to discuss.

For some audio snippets, check out the Basket’s previous entry, and for a brief video recap, you can go here.

I heard from people who know that they’re trying to package the show for runs in New York and London. You Basketcases across the pond might even get it as part of a bonus for Season 2, which begins airing on BBC Four in February.
Hopefully by then, they’ll add Deborah Lacey to the cast, who supposedly knows her way around a song or two, and reportedly has a nice, bluesy style voice that’s perfect for this type of revue.

Maybe we’ll all luck out and they’ll include the show as part of the Season 2 DVD package, which means you can experience it yourself without having to take my word for it.

And I'm sure we love this from the Variety posting:

And since they were kind enough to let me crash the cast afterparty at the MGM Grand's Tabu restaurant (thank you, Robin Veith), I can testify that they live it up off-stage in an old-school, keep 'em coming manner as well. It was the latest night (earliest morning) I've had in a while (hence the lateness of this posting).

I'm going back to the well!

Julie McNiven in a tiara! Love that. Thanks for the pics Karl.

The stream of Mad Men pics at Daylife currently has photos of the Revue, including Joel Murray & Melinda McGraw, Mark Moses, Crista Flanagan, Patrick Fischler, Julie McNiven (in a tiara!), Michael Gladis, and Christina Hendricks looking insanely hot.

But no pics of Rich Sommer in the negligee!

But but but … what about those of us who would love to see the Revue but don't live in NYC or London? *pouts* Hopefully they will include it on the S2 DVD. Any word on when that is coming out?

The S2 DVD, iirc, is set for July, to piggyback on promotion for S3.

Thanks Karl. I guess I can wait that long.

It's funny the one article mentioned how they like to party, in one of the TV guide interviews with the cas at SAG…the interviewer mentioned they have developed a reputation at the award show parties…LOL

Rich Sommer reports on Vegas, with pics, but neither have the negligee.

Plus, how could he have ever doubted the awesomeness of Tom Jones?

If there's a performance in New York (or Chicago, for us Midwestern Basket Cases) I'd be happy to join others.
