Sally and Bobby were on stage too!! What a great, great cast!

  2. # 2 Karl Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 9:57 pm

Saves the night. As noted on the open thread, JH put a spotlight on the kids, because he’s awesome. And VK reached across to shake Kiernan’s hand, because he’s awesome.

  3. # 3 Deborah Lipp Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 9:57 pm

The funniest part was when I screamed YAY and my cat shot STRAIGHT UP into the air.

I was so excited when Mad Men won the Best Ensemble Drama Series!!! Congratulations to the entire cast of Mad Men. This is best ensemble cast of any drama series!!! Way to go Mad Men!!!

  5. # 5 Deborah Lipp Says:

I am totally right that the women are coordinating their gowns. I’ve seen them at all the awards show this year and last, and Jan, Christina, and Lizzie always where three dramatically different colors. Tonight it was Lizzie in silver, Jan in black, and Christina rockin’ the red.

  6. # 6 Karl Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 9:58 pm

Was the cat startled, or just as big a MM fan as you?

  7. # 7 Deborah Lipp Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:02 pm

    I was a tad loud.

  8. # 8 Mike Yellen Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:02 pm

Deborah! I do have to agree with you about the ladies. They were so coordinated and, as always, they were looking absolutely beautiful and gorgeous as ever and the guys were looking really sharp. What a fantastic ensemble cast we have for the best show ever!!!

  9. # 9 JS Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:06 pm

All the women do seem to be improving with their style, especially January. I wonder if it’s because they’re getting better options now that the show is a huge hit. I love the chemistry between the two Johns…they’re hilarious.

  10. # 10 Roberta Lipp Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:07 pm

Deborah called me up to say she thinks Jan got a new stylist. I hope so!

  11. # 11 Karl Says:

Here’s the win from Reuters and the AP.

And Mad Men fan Emily Blunt giving it to JH.

  12. # 12 Karl Says:

    JH hugs Kiernan.

  13. # 13 Roberta Lipp Says:

The Michael Gladis interview goes up tomorrow. He talks about Kiernan.

We are all so lucky to experience this. Has there ever been another cast so amazingly talented, gorgeous and TOGETHER like this one? Karl, the pix are great, love the one with Kiernan, thank you!

  16. # 16 Roberta Lipp Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:41 pm

And not just that they are together, but because they have all won. They, the actors. Each of those guys. It is a thrill!

  17. # 17 seagirl Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:46 pm

LOL about Deborah’s flying feline. My husband OF COURSE had to hang around when everyone was onstage, ostensibly to make sure I wouldn’t leap through the set.

  18. # 18 cgeye Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:46 pm

I can only express my joy for this ensemble — and a touch of schadenfraude, if the dyspeptic look on Shatner’s face meant that he mistook his showboating with Spader for ensemble work. Any show that wasted the deep supporting cast BOSTON LEGAL ran through like Turista Tummy should be snubbed, one last time.

  19. # 19 seagirl Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 10:51 pm

Yes, it’s fantastic to have the ensemble win! The sum is so much greater than the parts even though we have some very fine indvidual performers.

  20. # 20 Brooke Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 11:04 pm

I was jumping and screaming! Incredibly happy that Mad Men won, what a great cast.I was especially happy to see Kiernan there, what a cutie.

  21. # 21 JS Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 11:08 pm

“the dyspeptic look on Shatner’s face”

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed it! LOL

  22. # 22 CPT_Doom Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 11:11 pm

    @ 18 cgeye:

I thought exactly the same thing – looked like someone shoved a lemon right in Shatner’s gourd.

What a great win for MM – and of course the shoutout to Mr. Weiner from the cast.

  23. # 23 Roberta Lipp Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 11:15 pm

You know I was so certain it was Roberta Lipp that Jon was going to thank.

But Matt’s a good choice too.

  24. # 24 Greg H Says:

That’s great news! Yet another award.

Speaking of Emily Blunt further up in the comments section, anyone else think she’d make a great new character? She could be a British representative for Powell & Lowe. Just saying. :)

  25. # 25 Peter G Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 11:37 pm

WOW! I am so thrilled for this great Cast. And I know that when the Actors say that this award means the most to them because it comes from their fellow Actors, that it is true.

What also is so important about tonight is that for many (probably most) of the Mad Men Actors, this is their first “named” major award – the first Acting statue with their name on it – something they will remember and cherish the rest of their lives, regardless of how far their careers take them.

And what good people they are – talented, yet all so real, so genuine.

All too often, good things DON’T happen to good people – but tonight… good things did.

  26. # 26 Peter G Says:
    January 25th, 2009 at 11:38 pm

BTW… I am really looking forward reading the Michael Gladis interview.

  27. # 27 Karl Says:

Here’s the cast facing the press.

  28. # 28 Karl Says:

In the prior thread there was amention of the ladies getting their pic taken separately. Here one, two, three, four.

  29. # 29 Karl Says:

Also, I have four pics of just the ladies, but that comment is awaiting moderation. I’m just too linky!

    tidbits from the cast….

    http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2009-01-25-sag-reax_N.htm

    Mad about ‘Men’

The Mad Men contingent was out in full force, and they were celebrating even before the show won best drama.

January Jones, who plays housewife Betty Draper, said, “We shoot from April to August, so it’s just nice to come to these events, see my castmates and just party.”

Vincent Kartheiser (Pete Campbell) said he’s thrilled show creator Matt Weiner was able to sign a deal and return for the third season. “That’s huge. He is the heart and soul of our show.”

Said Weiner: “I am glad to go back to work, and that we will start getting the writers back in the next couple of weeks.”

What will the season be about? “I don’t know,” he said. “I have a few ideas.”

    Happy couple

Mad Men’s Elizabeth Moss (Peggy) was showing off her new fiancé, Fred Armisan of Saturday Night Live.

He said, “We are very happy.”

She said, “I’m happier than ever.”

Will he show up as himself or a character at the wedding?

“Oh, it will be him,” Moss said.

Armisan quipped: “I will do the character of loving husband.”

Right now, I’m listening to WGN Radio (AM 720, which can be heard coast-to-coast at night). Host Nick DiGiglio is talking SAG and currently raving about the lovely CH.

  38. # 38 Karl Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 1:48 am

    John R,

SAG doesn’t do crew awards because the “A” is actors. No directors, producers, crew, etc.

    —

Nick DiGiglio is currently trying to figure out whether they can have CH flown into Chicago as a guest.

As part of an article about the SAG Awards:

    Happy couple

Elizabeth Moss (Peggy of “Mad Men”) was showing off her new fiance, Fred Armisen of “Saturday Night Live”.

He said, “We are very happy.”

She said, ”I’m happier than ever.”

Will he show up as himself or a character at the wedding?

“Oh, it will be him,” Moss said.

Armisen quipped: ”I will do the character of loving husband.”

    Awww!

  42. # 42 Deborah Lipp Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Why doesn’t SAG do a group overall support crew [or everybody BEHIND the camera] category?

John, SAG’s unique mission is to acknowledge acting as a profession. No directors, writers, or other behind-the-scenes people are acknowledged at this event.

Once again Mad Men wins as an ensemble, (as it should), but Jon Hamm gets overlooked as best actor–again. Could it be that he is so mouthwateringly handsome, it offsets his considerable talent as a true “character” actor? Sigh. I can’t imagine anyone else portraying Don Draper. He has truly “made the role his own”.

  47. # 47 JS Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 8:11 pm

“Once again Mad Men wins as an ensemble, (as it should), but Jon Hamm gets overlooked as best actor–again.”

Honestly I am surprised that he keeps getting ignored, other than the Globes that one time. He has so much heat right now, I assumed he would just win everything like Alec Baldwin is.

Maybe the upcoming Emmy’s will be different, but I have a feeling the women of Mad Men will rack up the nominations and be the focus. The actresses got so much buzz this year; EW, TV Guide and NY Mag really praised and promoted them.

  48. # 48 Roberta Lipp Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 8:12 pm

Here’s what I’ve been trying to figure out–who wins?

I mean, I wouldn’t have thought of the kids had I not seen them. So cool, but I wouldn’t have thought of it.

What about Peyton List (Jane) and Robert Morse? And then there are the periodics like Julie McNiven (Hildy), Crista Flanagan (Lois Sadler), and Anne Dudek (Francine)? And the S2 (so far) people; the Barretts, Father Gill, Anna Draper, Peggy’s mom and sister? (And last season the same question would include Helen and Glen Bishop, Dr. Wayne, Midge and Rachel. I am home right now with a migraine; can you tell by how I got lazy about the actors’ names?)

    Anyway, I wonder these things.

  49. # 49 JS Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 8:23 pm

IMDB has the nomination list, the child actors aren’t on it though, I think it’s whoever is considered a regular cast member. Last year’s list is very different…it has Maggie Siff and Anna Dudek. I guess it goes by majority of eps an actor is in to be considered a guest actor or not.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804503/awards

  50. # 50 Karl Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 8:25 pm

I would guess there are SAG rules — I thought that there might be a nominated episode that would define the cast.

  51. # 51 Karl Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 8:45 pm

    From the SAG Rules:

A Television Ensemble shall be defined as those actors employed under a Series Contract, as specified in sections 5, 6, 7 or 8 of the Screen Actors Guild Television Agreement, who are billed in the main series titles, and have appeared in more than half the episodes originally aired during the Awards Year. In the event that an actor joins a series during the fall season of the calendar year — the second of the two television seasons falling in the Awards period — the actor may be
deemed eligible if the actor appeared in the majority of original episodes aired during the second season, provided that the actor also meets the other criteria given above. Actors who do not meet the eligibility requirements, as part of the ensemble announced as the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble, but who appeared in three or more episodes of that show in a calendar year are eligible to receive a certificate.

  52. # 52 Roberta Lipp Says:
    January 26th, 2009 at 8:59 pm

    Thanks guys.

And Dale! I cannot believe I forgot about Dale.

  53. # 53 Deborah Lipp Says:
    January 27th, 2009 at 10:38 am

lk, I adore Jon Hamm and I think he’s a brilliant actor doing great work. But not winning is not “overlooked.” He was chosen among every lead on every dramatic TV series for one of only five nominations; chosen by two different voting bodies (SAG and GG). That’s not “overlooked.” Hugh Laurie is also a terrific actor doing top-notch work, and it’s not his fault that the show he’s on is not as well-written as Mad Men.

  54. # 54 Deborah Lipp Says:
    January 27th, 2009 at 10:39 am

Roberta, I’ve actually been writing letters trying to find out exactly this. So far no one knows.
