January 11th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
It’s on like Donkey Kong.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Off to a good start: Ricky Gervais asks Ryan Secrest what he’s wearing.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
In case anyone is trying to minimize how much of the Globes they have to watch, The Envelope blog posted the schedule:
http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldderby/2009/01/golden-globe-28.html
I actually LOVE watching the Globes, but wild horses couldn’t force me to sit through the Emmy’s (yeah, I have no idea how wild horses could force anyone to watch television either). I guess it’s the booze.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
TV Drama Actor and Actress come up fairly early. And yeah, I think the booze really helps the GG.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
RS’s pal Jenna Fischer is a fan of Doubt and Amy Adams. Tasteful.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Always gotta be worried about HFP going for Europeans in the acting categories …
January 11th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
I’ll be honest, I really couldn’t care less about who wins any of the categories in this ceremony. The fact that the Golden Globes have even achieved a level of semi-prominence is one of the more significant con jobs in recent memory. These awards are decided by 80 or so part-time journalists, yet they have somehow become the #2 awards show to the Oscars & Emmys. This article from a year ago went into a bit more detail about what a sham they are:
http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jan/11/opinion/oe-waxman11
January 11th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
Andrew is correct, but — as is so often the case — perception has a way of becoming reality, esp. in H’wood. Last year’s GG wins boosted MM’s profile; a repeat this year could boost MW at a time when it would be really helpful.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
That being said, it is the aforementioned booze that ends up making the show watchable.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Alec Baldwin is now interviewing Secrest about his sex life. And just called Secrest’s questions dumb.
January 11th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Evan Rachel Wood reveals Springsteen will be at “The Wrestler” table. He gave the movie a song for free. BTW, I heartily recommend the film, though it’s not for the squeamish.
January 11th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Susan Sarandon had her fashion credits on a notecard (’cause she’s not used to it).
January 11th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
ELISABETH MOSS: STUNNING IN RED
January 11th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Kyra Sedgwick and Eva Mendes just got totally broomed on E!, to make way for Kate & Leo.
January 11th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Over on TV Guide Channel…
Agree with Karl – Elisabeth looks great – Was that January Jones dazzling in blue?
Jon and his Jenn looking happy and marvelous as usual.
January 11th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
I’ve only seen Elisabeth, the Mad men crew must be late! Or just went right in to the hotel…
January 11th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Gotta love Hayden Panettiere who’s presenting the Best Actor Drama Series award and couldn’t when quizzed name any of the actual nominees!
January 11th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Jon and Jenn did a quick interview with the TVG Channel who also seemed to have a few shots of January standing alone, no label. Haven’t seen the rest of the crew yet.
January 11th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Just caught Robert Downey Jr. totally blowing off an interviewer on NBC: “I can’t hear a word you’re saying. I’m totally lipreading. Are you enjoying yourself?” Meanwhile, Pitt & Jolie totally blew by Secrest.
January 11th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Seacrest got pushed by one of Brangelina’s bodyguards…LOL
January 11th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Jlo is still ringless…US magazine may be onto something.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Hope Kate brought the right notecard.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Pics of EM.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Here’s CH and JH.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
Tom Wilkinson was pretty awesome as Ben Franklin.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Dern wins; that’s two In Treatment losses, fwiw.
TV Drama Actor and Actress come up after a clip and a bit with the HFPA pres.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
Nah, Wilkinson’s Franklin was a glazed ham. He overplayed the eccentricity while showing no signs of the historic mind behind it.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
OMG – Elizabeth Moss looks adorable and I don’t think that Christina “Goddess” Hendricks could EVER look bad.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Andrew, we’ll agree to disagree. The role showcased Franklin’s political acumen, as passed on to Adams in Philly and yes, playing up eccentricity in Paris (for political reasons). He could’ve used an acceptance speech though. And he was better in Michael Clayton, but that was last year.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:28 pm
BTW, another key to the watchability of the GGs is that the show moves at a decent pace.
Here comes TV Drama Actress.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Aw, shit!
January 11th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Gabriel Byrne, as feared. And not there.
Kirk and Spock present TV Drama Actress.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Wazzup w/ JJ’s eyebrows?
Paquin wins, as feared.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
Is it just me, or do they love to reward movie stars for doing TV?
January 11th, 2009 at 9:32 pm
TV Drama is a ways off.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I dunno if movie stars get rewarded for doing TV, but they automatically have a higher profile when taking a TV role. And as discussed here before, TV often affords better acting opportunities these days.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
Meanwhile, here are a couple of better CH pics.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Ricky Gervais: “Kate, I told you… do a Holocaust movie, you’ll get an award.”
January 11th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
January and Jon were totally robbed…but I think the show now has a better chance of winning for Best TV Drama. They seem to like splitting up the awards…
January 11th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
Wall-E wins; human Andrew Stanton accept on his behalf. I feel cheated.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Here are some JJ pics.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Interesting; I just noticed they moved the Gervais intro of Happy-Go-Lucky ahead of the Film Comedy Actress win for lead Sally Hawkins. A bit of a tip-off for people paying more attention than me.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
Gabriel Byrne and Anna Paquin together have about as much charisma, on a good day, as a dead turnip. The British Empire apparently rules for a day.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Drew Barrymore sporting a retro hairdo.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
As I posted in an earlier thread, the HFPA likes to boost new shows in an attempt to wield influence. Worked for MM last year; may work against MM this year.
January 11th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Cameron Diaz and Mark Wahlberg were supposed to present Film Supporting Actor. Instead, it’s Demi Moore reading Heath Ledger’s name. Chris Nolan accepts.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
I’m glad to see that Jeremy Piven has made such a speedy “recovery.”
January 11th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
Any guess how long it will be till best drama award is given? I’m on the West Coast so can only follow electronically for now.
Thanks Karl for the pix – JJ looks lovely in that dress, and hopefully gets on stage later.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
Colin Farrell hands out Best Foreign Language Film. He does not swear. Again, I feel cheated.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
seagirl, the schedule at No.3 puts it 2 clips and three awards away, if I counted correctly.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Make that 2 clips, 4 awards, but soon to be three.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
Laura Linney wins for John Adams. Thought she was awesome in it also. Andrew might agree with me on that one, as she gave a more restrained performance.
BTW, the fact that Tom Hanks, who de facto runs the Academy, was exec producer has nothing to do with the enormous number of awards won. Nothing whatsoever.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
Hmm, January Jones dress isn’t too terrible although I don’t love it, the color looks very pretty on her. I also wonder, along with Karl, about her eyebrows. Oh well…hopefully they will be back to “normal” when they start filming Mad Men.
By the way, did any of you see the new issue of Vanity Fair? There is a spread of January Jones in it with a small corresponding article. Along with Mad Men, there is also mention of the new movie she is in, The Boat That Rocked. She looks fabulous in the pictures. If you don’t want to buy the magazine, you can go to the Vanity Fair website and click on a link that will not only have the pictures in the magazine but ones that were not used. I don’t think the article is on the site but I’m not positive about that.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
Andrew,
Piven was on the Red Carpet talking about his forced rest, but quickly cut it short when he realized he might be straying into an area of litigation. It was sorta amusing.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:15 pm
HBO totally owns this show…they must like pay for the venue…LOL
January 11th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Jan,
JJ’s brows looked odd up close on TV, but they work for the Red Carpet photos. And while that dress wasn’t great, I don’t think it will make GFY. She’s certainly done worse.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
Gerard Butler presents the clip for “In Bruges.” Wears a shirt. I don’t feel cheated, but women probably do.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:19 pm
What little I saw of January she looks gorgeous. Great dress, hair, makeup. Heartbroken that both of our actors lost, but fingers still crossed. Running back to the tv now.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen present Screenplay.
Mmmm… Elizabeth Banks.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Karl, I think Linney is very deserving. In case I gave a different impression, I like the miniseries quite a bit (the unnominated Generation Kill was better, but no use complaining about that). I liked pretty much every performance in the series, Zeljko Ivanek’s in particular, except for Wilkinson, who took the easiest choice in every scene.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Oh yummy, Patrick Dempsey.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Alec Baldwin wins. I’m not a fan of AB, but he’s very good on 30 Rock.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Oh man. I know Alec Baldwin is very good on 30 Rock but I was wanting Steve Carell to win. I love him in The Office, my favorite comedy on TV right now.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Baldwin thanks his daughter, the one he once called an awful pig. So sweet.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
I also love The Office and would have been fine with a Carell win.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
TV Drama should follow a clip for “The Reader” and TV Movie/Miniseries Actor.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
And as much as I snarked on the John Adams clout, I am a Paul Giamatti fan.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Zelleweger tries out for GFY.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Giamatti; third time’s a charm.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
I don’t have HBO so I didn’t see John Adams but I loved Giamatti in Sideways. He’s a terrific actor.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Hi guys!
Okay, we’re almost there.
I’m nervous!
January 11th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Whoa. They jumped to TV Comedy or Musical.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Everyone has raved about John Adams.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
30 Rock; no shock. It’s the Year of Fey.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:36 pm
WAAAH! I wanted The Office to win. OK, hopefully Mad Men will win.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Tracy Morgan will be in next year’s GG promo spots.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:40 pm
BTW, if they flip-flopped TV Comedy and Drama, we could be in for a wait. It would be third-to last in the running order.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Pierce Brosnan just spoiled Mamma Mia for me. I feel cheated.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:44 pm
Sean Combs was scheduled to present with J-Lopez, but it’s Kate Beckinsale instead. Gossip fans rejoice.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
Beckinsale looked very tense behind Mr. Combs.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
So many punchlines, so little time.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
David Duchovny gratuitously mentioning his family. Heh.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Yeah isn’t that all kinds of over?
January 11th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
Year of Fey.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
R.Lipp
I presume the real-life DD is trying hard to convey the opposite.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Ms. Fey. That is the right dress on the right body.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
That’s what I thought, too, Roberta. Maybe they decided to give it another try. I noticed he mentioned his wife during the E! interview, too.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Ohhh Dr. House.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
I don’t watch House, but the cast looked great tonight. I may have to borrow my bro’s DVDs.
Also there’s a slight 30 Rock-MM connection (beyond the upcoming Hamm arc): Jack McBrayer figures in Dyna Moe’s MM-SNL crossover tale.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Yay! NBC is advertising Friday Night Lights, another favorite show of mine. DirectTV’s 101 channel has been showing it since October so I got to watch the new season already but will watch it again on NBC. I hope this show stays on for a 4th season.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
And Hugh Laurie cracks me up in Sense & Sensibility
January 11th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
“Hey, let’s give Spielberg an award; then he’ll have to show up!”
“And let’s ask Scorsese to give the award; then he’ll have to show up!”
January 11th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
I’m glad Speilberg is getting this award. The majority of his movies have given me a lot of joy over the years.
January 11th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
All those people Tina Fey called out are real posters over at the goldderby/LA Times forums! LOL They are all freaking out over there…
January 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Don’t get me wrong; I have seen most of SS’s movies on their release dates. But the DeMille Award serves the exact purposes I mention in #92. The HFPA and Dick Clark are not dumb.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
JS, that makes Fey’s speech thrice as funny. Thanks.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Hey, there was Joan Crawford and her eyebrows!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Here’s the Gold Derby reax to the Fey speech.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
The whole Mad Men cast looks so glamorous tonight, it will make a great image onstage.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
I always forget Spielberg directed that Night Gallery segment. It was chilling. I saw it initially when I was pretty little, and it was entirely memorable. She buys Tom Bosley’s eyes, leaving him blind, so that she can see for like 12 hours. And then there’s a blackout, but she doesn’t know, she just think it failed.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Wait. Am following this correctly? Tina Fey was slamming online folk? The online community was called out, and we’re naming names?
January 11th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
I never saw that episode, but my husband has. He feels it’s one of the best Night Gallery episodes.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Okay I am genuinely moved by the love Drew Barrymore exudes for Spielberg. I mean, think about it. Talk about the sweetest of surrogate fathers.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
R.Lipp
Yes, Gold Derby commenters were told by screenname to “suck it” by Fey.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
So Matt might just thank us by name.
How’s that for some crazy talk conclusion jumping!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
So if MM wins and MW does not give a shout out to BoK, I will feel cheated.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Or, okay, he could tell us to suck it.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
Jinx!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
But if MM wins, you will have to ask why he didn’t thank you.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Fey’s speech:
January 11th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Let’s hope both MM and BOK get some love tonight. I was just thinking if In Treatment wins (god forbid) they can probably call out the 15 individual fans who watch the show by name!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Danny Boyle wins for Director; Slumdog bandwagon starts rolling.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Revolutinary Road hasn’t made it here yet but I definitely want to see it!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
I assure you, the Basket gets plenty of love from Matt.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
TV Drama is probably 4 awards and 2 clips away.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
We know MW loves the BoK; just tweakin’.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Colin Farrell wins for “In Bruges.” Makes intelligible, though verging on incoherent, speech. Does not swear. I feel cheated.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Colin got thin…but I’m happy to see him win.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
BTW, it appears that dianefan — targeted by Fey — is a MM fan also. GoldDerby ought to make it easier to link to single posts.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Wow!! Salma Hayek is drop dead gorgeous!! Absolutely stunning.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Karl, you’re cracking me up with your Colin commentary. I’m thinking that Colin’s bad boy ways are long gone. LOL
January 11th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Salma Hayek introduces Vicky Cristina Barcelona.
/skips obvious GG joke
January 11th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Borat! Very cute.
Or as he would say…”Niiiiiiice.”
January 11th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Sacha Baron Cohen is edgy (shocka), awards Best Comedy/Musical to VCB.
HFPA *hearts* Woody.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
I think tihs Vicky Christina Barcelona is another one I hope to see.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
TV Drama should be a clip and an award away.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Vicky Christina Barcelona was good. Not quite among Woody’s best, but quite good. I was glad to see Rebecca Hall get a GG nod, as she tended to get overlooked in all the attention for Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
The crowd turned on Sacha quick for that Madonna joke
January 11th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Probably because it was more of a Guy Ritchie joke.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:39 pm
Wahlberg (producer of In Treatment) moved up in the order. I don’t like it.
Award goes to Kate again.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Of course, Kate’s Holiday co-star Diaz may explain the presenter switch.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Kate Winslett looks beautiful. Her skin is luminous.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
TV Drama. Here we go.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
YES!!!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Yeah!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Look how fabulous everyone looks!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
Well, good. Now I can watch a bit of the show.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Fantastic – 3 more hours and I can flip on the set.
Tell us more!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
What’s the hour/minute mark so I don’t have to watch the entire thing?
January 11th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
I’m kvelling.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Cool. Now I can head off to bed.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
“…my friends at Lionsgate and AMC…”
January 11th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
It should be 10:43 or so on the West Coast sounds like
The Best Actor/Actress was around 8:20/8:30
January 11th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
I’m sure if he had had more time, that Matt Weiner would have mentioned all of the fans at BOK
January 11th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
WHOO-YEAH! Made it home just in time to catch that Best Drama win – that totally makes my night.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Never mind. I got it. Congrats Mad Men.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
2:45 or so.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Hopefully those friends at Lionsgate remembered to bring the checkbook!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Was the rest of the cast not there?
January 11th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
The show totally deserves it! It should’ve swept like 30 rock though, oh well…maybe it will at this year’s Emmy’s.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:50 pm
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
There are only so many table slots. EM commented in the commentary for The Wheel about it.
Mickey Rourke wins. He really was terrific in The Wrestler.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
“I’m not much of a public speaker; I was kinda hopin’ Robert Downey would come up and say something…”
January 11th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
There is your swearing, Karl. LOL!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
Mickey Rourke wins. He really was terrific in The Wrestler
I agree – never really understood why he was a star (even a bit one), but that was an amazing performance in The Wrestler.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
Zelleweger tries out for GFY.
IMO, wins the Fug.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
More Red Carpet JJ.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Joy,
Have you seen Diner? Rourke was aces in that also.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
Jan,
Someone had to step in when CF let me down.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
The Golden Globes are the hardest tickets to get, what with all those tables. The rest of the cast is partying together offsite. They (Michael and Rich) both said they’d try to call me with reaction WHOOH HOOHS if they remembered to in their elation. They assured me that they would probably not remember. So far, the phone’s not ringing. But I’m a’ready.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Thanks, Karl. I figured it was something like that!
Zellweger’s dress is awful! Also, not too fond of Jennifer Lopez’s (although I respect the effort it took post babies to have a bod like that and want to show it off)!
January 11th, 2009 at 11:58 pm
I saw In Bruges last night and loved it. Was rooting for Colin Farrell, he totally earned it.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Karl, I haven’t seen Diner – just Heaven’s Gate, Body Heat, Nine 1/2 Weeks, Barfly, and Wild Orchid. Admittedly poor vehicles, I’m sure…
January 11th, 2009 at 11:59 pm
Elisabeth Moss!

Zellweger’s dress was pretty bad. I saw pictures of Glenn Close’s outfit and I didn’t care for it either. I think Salma Hayek had one of the best dresses.

Cruise gives it to Slumdog. Bandwagon picks up speed.

What the heck is Slumdog Millionaire? I have never heard of it until I read the nominees for the GG awards.

Didn’t J-Lo wear that same dress 8 years ago?

They’re probably at the AMC sponsored party at the Beverly Hilton.

Joy,
The infamous Versace was green, but similar.

Jan,
Slumdog Millionaire is about a contestant accused of cheating on the Indian version of “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.” Don’t want to do any spoilers.

Goodnight all. Pleasure chatting with you. It’s been awhile. By the way, does anyone know if AMC will be showing reruns of season 2 of Mad Men in the near future?
January 12th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Thanks, Karl.

Jan-
There’s a bunch of synopses online, but Slumdog has been really hot in the arthouse theatres out here, and it’s very entertaining and well done. I’m quite satisfied that it won.

E! is doing Afterparty coverage.

It sounds interesting. Once again, I better go. Got to get up early in the morning.
January 12th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Piven! Ack.
January 12th, 2009 at 12:08 am
Wow, is Jerry Ferrara really that shrimpy?
January 12th, 2009 at 12:16 am
Apparently.

Just realized after all these years that Laura Linney and Laura Dern are two separate people.
January 12th, 2009 at 1:02 am
Seriously? I can see that.
I think somehow I have always been on top of exactly who they each are. I found Linney extraordinarily memorable in Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City, which is interesting because A) I never remember anyone, and B) she was really so ordinary looking, playing such an ordinary woman.
And Laura Dern was in Mask, in an unforgettable (to me) role. Plus she’s Bruce Dern’s daughter.
Both of them are pretty close to my age.

Laura Dern is a character played by Laura Linney; that’s how good she is.
January 12th, 2009 at 1:38 am
LOL. I think up until now they’ve never been in the same room together at the same time so…you know, it’s like LaToya and Michael…except, maybe not…

Congrats to Mad Men on well deserved win! I think Jon and January were robbed, but I’m biased. In reality, there are several deserving actors and actresses and it’s subjective.
I think January looked stunning tonight. Her outfits always have a daring, original twist to them. Her dress tonight was classic enough for an awards ceremony, but different enough to have personality. Loved the light blues on several women tonight.
I thought Tina Fey was hysterical with her shout out to the mean, obsessed internet posters.

Yay for Mad Men.
I am so happy for Kate W, Slumdog & Danny Boyle.

YAY Mad Men!!!
While I love Kate Winslet and think she deserved both her wins, I feel like she really stole MM’s thunder because of her wayyyy too long acceptance speech. That gossip girl just spit out the nominees so fast, there was no build up! In any case, the win is awesome. Now all my friends that haven’t watched the show might finally listen to me!

I cannot believe Anna Paquin won over January. Really? Really?
Another hometown connection: I went to high school with the guy who played John Quincy Adams in John Adams.
