Mad News, December 23-26, 2008
Cincinnati City Beat says movie stars belong on cable, because of the brilliance of shows like Mad Men, not in movies, because of the stupidity of movies like The Day the Earth Stood Still.
MSG’s The Monitor lists year end Don’ts and Dos of Mad Men.
Basketcase Saber2185 sent us this cool Mad Men fashion article from dvisible. The collage they use to illustrate the article is a knockout!
Basketcase Karl sends us another story of a woman who didn’t know she was pregnant until she was in labor. This one is remarkable because she already had two children and she said she’d just had her period.
USA Today names Mad Men its show of the year. The rest of its top fifteen (top ten plus nine runners-up) makes me weep for television. Or for USA Today. Several are shows I watch or have watched, but are nowhere near MM in quality.
More Mad Men party suggestions. This is a trend! This New Hampshire food zine gives drink recipes, so you can make a real Don Draper Old Fashioned. This one from the Twin Cities prefers the Cosmopolitan.
In its “Eight underrated performers of ’08,” MSNBC lists two performers with a Mad Men connection: Rosemarie DeWitt (Midge) in Rachel Getting Married, and Jeremy Piven in Speed-the-Plow (co-starring Elisabeth Moss).
Anne Dudek (Francine) had a baby boy. Congratulations! Interesting that People calls her “Mad Men’s Anne Dudek” when her role on House was arguably more prominent.
Tim Goodman’s television year in review gives Mad Men love.
MSN’s television year in review gives Mad Men love. Wait, did I just say that?
In another year-end wrap up STORY, Tim Goodman says this:
An argument could have been made that of all the wonderful, mostly unknown actors who came to our attention in the first season of “Mad Men,” January Jones was going to be the weak link. In Season 2, she stepped up in ways that weren’t even hinted at in Season 1, deepening her Betty Draper character and showing range without showing off. Impressive.
In a separate story, MSN elects Mad Men the best show of 2008.
In an interesting best-of-2008 list, David Bianculli of NPR places Mad Men #2 behind John Stewart.
I can’t for the life of me figure out what Verdugo Monthly is, but it features an interview with Rich Sommer (Harry Crane) on the cover. And his wife and lovely baby Bea. Damn, that’s a cute baby.
Mad Men is all over Entertainment Weekly, including the season finale as one of the best single TV episodes of the year.
And EOnline’s Watch With Kristin team is giving Christmas gifts to TV shows. There’s a little something under the stocking for Peggy Olson in there.
For Southern Voice, Mad Men makes the list of the #5 best gay events on TV in 2008.
The Star Ledger’s Alan Sepinwall is another long time Mad Men supporter, so it’s no surprise that our favorite show appears on his top ten for 2008 (at #3).
The Salt Lake Tribune places Mad Men at #2 of the year.
I get the feeling every Revolutionary Road review is going to mention Mad Men.
This is the second time I’ve seen this: A film reviewer saying that Mad Men is better than most of the films released this year.

Basket of Kisses: The unofficial blog of AMC's Mad Men. Where all the cool kids meet & greet to talk about Don Draper, Janie Bryant, Christina Hendricks, Jon Hamm, Matthew Weiner, & subtexty things.
