We have no supporting nominations, and it’s hard to decide whether Moss or Jones is more a “lead.” The field for supporting actors is more difficult, because the Globes lump in mini-series and TV movies with the supporting nominations, while separating them for the leads.

Meanwhile, the Producers Guild of America has released its nominations for 2008:

AMC’s “Mad Men” was cited as a nominee for the Norman Felton Producer of the Year Award in Episodic Television — Drama along with FX’s “Damages,” Showtime’s “Dexter” and a pair of ABC series: “Boston Legal,” which had its series finale this week, and “Lost.”

I have been unable to find a full press release on the PGA nominations, and the PGA’s own website doesn’t have them. I wish I could tell you more about the Norman Felton award, but I’m sure it’s a good thing.

  1. Congrats to JH and JJ! I am disappointed that EM was not nominated, though I think she is as much of a lead as JJ, which would have put them in competetion and potentially split the MM vote. And I think it will be tough for MM to pull supporting nominations because — even though folks like CH, VK and JS have done fine work — the ensemble is so large, with everyone getting stuff to do, that there is not a sustained focus on any particular member of the supporting cast.

  2. Yay for January!

I am a Betty stan. I hope she wins.

  3. Congratulations to January Jones and Jon Hamm!

  4. Yay JJ! Let's hope both she and Jon take home awards this year. I think this was the breakout year for January, for sure … I'm betting on her.

No matter how Nordic her people may be, I'll bet this nomation raises a smile from our favorite chilly blonde. :)

  5. No John Slattery! *runs off to cry*

*comes back to say* But I am very happy January received a nomination. It's about time they start recognizing the women on this show too.

  6. Yay for January! This really is remarkable. I'm of the opinion that MM has only one lead, being Jon, but January deserves all the praise she gets.

  7. [...] Basket of Kisses have done a nice recap of what Mad Men, one of my fave TV shows, has done. Yay for …. Especially January Jones, who is out of this world as Betty Draper. [...]

  8. One reason for no supporting nominations may be that there are only two television supporting categories at the Globes: one for actors and one for actresses. So all the comedy series, drama series, movies, and miniseries supporting actors are all competing for five slots (whereas lead actors have categories for drama, comedy, and miniseries/movie). It's still frustrating, but that may be the cause.

  9. Should have been nominated in many more cathegories. Vincent Kartheiser and Elisabeth Moss for supporting roles för example.

  10. Mad Men cracked the AFI Top Ten TV programs list. Hardly unexpected, but still good.

    Breaking Bad
    In Treatment
    John Adams
    Life
    Lost
    Mad Men
    The Office
