It was a costume wedding; the bride and groom were pirates. We were on a boat off Lewes, DE. I sang both in and at the wedding.
Wednesday night/Thursday morning I had to pack my car with costume, musical equipment, and all the usual packing stuff. Thursday after work I bolted in time to meet with Elisabeth, then bussed to NJ to my car at the Park and Ride to head 250 miles south.
It's been a really fun spin. Tonight I sleep. But not for another 130 miles or so.
Roberta, you look adorable and I am so glad that you chose the formal length white gloves rather than the usual wrist length. After all, a wedding is a formal occasion! Mona Sterling would certainly approve…
Minnie Mouse is Rachael Menken in mouse form. She’s smart, stylish, wise and strong.
Which means that Tilden Katz is Mickey Mouse which gets a tad bit weird having a Katz which is like a mouse. [in France Minnie and Mickey are married...is that true in the United States?]
John, I think they are. I do know that the voice artists that portray Mickey and Minnie (the Mouses) in this country are married… I got that from an inside source (the voice of Porky Pig. you can't make this stuff up.)
But, having just attended this costumed affair, I have to say that I gave a lot of thought to Mickey. People kept asking me if my date would be dressing as Mickey, and I was all… No. Ick. As costumes go, Minnie achieves the right look for me. Mickey, for a man, not so much. I was escorted by a be-kilted sort of goth looking guy, and really, it worked just fine, from a visual and energetic standpoint.
Very cool. I only ask because my mom is very good friends with the daughter of one of the owners, so I spent good portions of my first 14 or so summers in and around Lewes, and particularly at Fisherman's Wharf.
I've been to Lewes a few times… about nine years ago I lived in Salisbury, MD (renting a room from the bride of this wedding, in fact), and spent a lot of time up and down route 1, between Ocean City, Fenwick, Dewey Beach, all the way up to Lewes. Lewes is so old and elegant. Ironically I am a Jersey girl but have never been to Cape May, which is a ferry ride away from Lewes.
Fisherman's Wharf was wonderful, and what a wonderful place it must have been to spend your childhood summers!
