(Thanks much, Ms. Moe!)
Back when we secured the date of the Matt Weiner interview, I approached Dyna Moe about doing an illustration for the occasion. My three-tiered plan was to A) roll it out with the interview, B) surprise Matt by doing, so, and C) be extremely cool.
Funny story. Last night. Big party. Weiner shows up (don’t know if you’ve heard). Deb and I seated on either side of him. We’re talking about all things Mad Men and Basket of Kisses, and (I don’t remember what specifically prompted the thought) Matt is not only familiar with her work but had met her at SNL the night before (that’s still last night… god I’m tired) and my sister says
Have you seen her portrait of you?
And then there was something about me killing her with my eyes. Only somehow I don’t recall it remaining that quiet. I was all, It was supposed to be a surprise for you when the article came out. And though my words to my sister were not over the top (like the inside thoughts were), Matt still chimed in with his positive, sweet side angle, and I paraphrase badly… if something nice is being done, it’s never bad to be talking about it.
Anyway, it will most definitely take us a lot more time to transcribe than we’d thought. Plus we had the recap of his visit to us that we’d not planned. Plus Dyna doesn’t have it among her stuff, and I don’t want to be the cause of that holdup.
When we met him the first time, Matt definitely displayed a love for color. We’ve seen these bold colors on him other times, including the red socks. We sent Dyna this, hoping it would inspire. And it most certainly did.
Matt… love that you and Theano showed up!

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

And given the time of year, I will add that you are filling us with antici…
…pation…
I entitle this "Lounge by Herman Miller; Sweater by Bill Cosby"
Totally cool. Nicely captures the post-wrap moment where he can fully appreciate all he’s accomplished.
Just so he doesn’t linger too long over the Gatorade.
Hah!!!!
Matt and I were discussing the bold patterns in Dyna Moe's art and I thought 'Wait until he sees the sweater' and me and my inside thought/outside thought problem, plus I'd completely forgotten Roberta's mad surprise scheme, and then the only reason she killed me with her eyes was that Matt was an effective body-block. For which I'm grateful.
When I saw that sweater, I knew Dyna had to use it.
That is so cool! Dyna Moe is wonderful and I've loved seeing her graphic work. I think if she printed it and sent it to MW framed, he'd definitely put it up in his office in a place of honor.
Karl. LOL!
So we all have a little hero-worship problem. So what? He's worth it.
