All the cool kids are doing it.

Right here. Click.

Now, I’ll grant you, we’re not doing anything as elaborate as this. (Thank you Basketlurker Judith!) From the online Boston Globe:

The Noir bar at the Charles Hotel will also roll out a special cocktail for the night, a Don Draper old fashioned, made with Maker’s Mark bourbon, bitters, sugar, and a splash of soda. But leave your Lucky Strikes at home.

And another Basketcase Pamela had a Mad Men themed 25th birthday party! Picture are here, and listen to this:

Luckily my boyfriend’s apartment is on Madison Avenue making it the perfect place for the fete. We had plenty of Heineken, Utz, and Hard liquor on hand… All of my friends dressed in costume- some as Betty Draper, some as Rachel Menken, and all looking fabulous. We had a hoola hoop contest, a trivia contest, and a costume contest. Prizes were a chip ‘n dip, a bottle of scotch, and a zippo lighter.

Uh… so yeah. We’re not doing any of that. She’s 25, for crying out loud. I’m lucky if I have the energy to show up.

But trust me. It will still be awesomely fun. We may yet have a special guest (no promises at this point) and there will be official Mad Men door prizes. And maybe some other stuff. Plus I have a great dress.

Definitely not a Jackie.

  1. Maybe we'll bring Utz. Lately, everywhere I go, I see Utz. I never saw it before…

I've written about Noir Bar before in Mad News, they do Mad Men themed viewing nights. Makes me wish I was in Boston.

  2. Yes, I just discovered that Noir has been showing it on projection Sunday nights, just down the street from me! While I've been sitting at home with my roommate, blogging on BoK….
I kid – BoK is the best place to be for true MM insight, and I'm sure the fine bartenders at Phoenix Park could whip up a Don on the Beach or a Joan Holloway. But it's good to know that if something happens to my plans for NYC this weekend, I'll be able to celebrate in style up north.

  3. Aargh, I'm so jealous. I just know that there will be a special guest, and that I'll miss them! I live only 4 1/2 hours from the party, but I can't make it. And, you know, I can't even watch the episode till Monday night on iTunes.

    Sigh.

  4. Ditto Arrrgh! I'm trying to figure out if I can make a quick trip to NYC (where my daughter lives); she's not an MM watcher, so she'd probably think her old mama has gone a little cuckoo!! (Well, one year she did take me to her friend's Halloween; I went dressed as Toshira Mifune.)

  5. You dressed as Toshira Mifune? You're AWESOME.

  6. I will be there in spirit if not in body. Hope it really rocks, post lots of photos! Thanks so much for providing this site and the wonderful discourse it provides and for welcoming me in! Only wish I'd discovered it earlier.
    xoxo

  7. People in spirit don't get to eat our chocolate. Just sayin'.

  8. Yeah, well, them's the breaks.

  9. The Utz thing happened to me too.. everywhere I go I see them… never even heard of them before…

  10. What sucks, guys, is that there's no wi-fi at the bar. So we won't be coming to you live, nor even joining in the thread for the finale.

But we do get to have chocolate.

  11. Wow, I *do* live near Boston and I had no idea Noir had Mad Men nights (for the record, it’s actually in Cambridge, not Boston).
