The blog is broken.

The blog set itself back in time many hours and easily 100 or so comments.

So like, Deb’s post below, which had 40 or 50 comments, was back to 13. But then I saw a 14th.

There’s back end stuff too. Anything we saved in drafts has disappeared.

We’re working on it. But if you’re wondering where your comments are… well, so are we.

Sucks.

Updated by Deborah: The guy who runs the server had a crisis and had to move us to another server. I am finding out if we can have backup data restored, but in the past, comments have been lost forever. Sorry.

  1. Geez, thanks for the clarification Roberta. I am the "new" 14 — and 15.

Thought I was tripping — and I'm totally sober.

  2. I couldn't access the blog at all when I tried a little bit ago. (I got an error message about not recognizing the certificate or something to that effect.) I'm back on now, but do see that lots of comments are missing.

  3. Aw, this happened once to my Slattery board when they had to switch servers due to a glitch.

Hopefully you'll be able to get everything back to normal soon and the lost data restored.

  4. It is the blog's way of saying:

    This. Never. Happened.

  5. Nice.

  6. Just trying to lighten the mood, which I imagine to be very frustrated.

  7. Somewhere, the prior version of the blog has assumed a new identity.

Or this version of the blog has assumed the prior version's identity.

  8. I second Karl, you will be amazed how this never happened.

OH, I am a techo-illiterate so this is grasping at straws most likely, but there was a Google thing a week or so ago where you could search the internet as it was in the past (year 2001). I wonder if the computer guy knows if an internet archive search exists for just a few days ago.

But then again since it never happened what would he/she be searching for?!

  9. That sucks, but I'm with bedtimeforbonzo – I'm just glad it wasn't me.

  10. Cheer up, Lipp sisters…you know how obsessive we Basketcases are. We'll probably reconstruct our previous posts; by this afternoon, all the comments will be back (just worded a little differently!).

  11. ^LOL I just re-posted 2 of my eaten comments.

  12. Hey Lipp Sisters, you give any thought to my idea about sending "Lucky Strike" cigarettes to the Producers to show our support for the show. We could each buy a pack and put a cigarette in an envelope. 12 letters a piece. Totally bombard them to show how important the show is to us. I have heard this kinda thing saved some shows.

If AMC doesn't want to pony up the cash, maybe another network will buy the show.

I know I may be premature. But ever since they took "Homefront" from me (yes, another John Slattery show) I am paranoid of losing a show I like.

I would pick another item, something more healthy, but cigarettes would be cheap and plentiful and easy to mail.

We just need to get the address to send it to.

  13. Oh noes! Well, the important stuff we can surely discuss again.

At least it didn't lose the Tarot reading post. Which I'm waiting for with bated breath. I wrote my own little treatise about it, can't wait to discuss.

  14. I did lose one post, but by a miracle, Roberta actually had it open on her computer and was able to copy the screen text. YAY!

  15. @8 Marylou: "you will be amazed how this never happened . . ."

    Good one.

It certainly seemed otherworldly. One moment I was typing and responding to a #26, then, suddenly, no sooner than I hit "Submit Comment," there was no #26 — not to mention a whole lot of other numbers. Not the least bit techno-savvy, I'm thinking, "Oh, shit! I'm the newcomer who broke the blog."

  16. To Ellelque –AMC has ordered a third season of MM, not to worry. Glad to hear it was a momentary thing, I couldn't get on yesterday afternoon. Sorry some data was lost. Computers are tricky.

  17. Ellelque,

Don't worry about the Fox story; producers and actors haggling over money. It happens all the time. Even if it became too pricey for AMC, it would end up on HBO or something.

  18. Indeed, Karl.

No longer with a signature show, HBO would die to have a Mad Men.

  19. thanks, bedtime, but Karl deservest the shout out. He thunk of it first!

That article is scary – I hope they can negotiate contracts with the stars!

  20. As you're fixing the comments, can you also turn down the widget ads? They are popping up not just when I navigate to the site, but with every post, and every back arrow. I sympathize with the need to pay for the site, but it's distracting from the fine job that you do.

  21. Brenda, I'll see what I can do. In general, you subscribe to the ad service, and you get what you get. I have a list of other ad sites I can try.

  22. Brenda, what browser do you use? Firefox does a fine job of preventing the pop-ups, while still allowing a less distracting but robust presence from our loving sponsors.

  23. Thanks, Deborah. I don’t want to stop visiting, but in just two steps today (logging onto the site and navigating to this post) I had to close five windows.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
