You Are a Bette!
You are a Bette — “I must be strong”
Bettes are direct, self-reliant, self-confident, and protective.
How to Get Along with Me
- * Stand up for yourself… and me.
- * Be confident, strong, and direct.
- * Don’t gossip about me or betray my trust.
- * Be vulnerable and share your feelings. See and acknowledge my tender, vulnerable side.
- * Give me space to be alone.
- * Acknowledge the contributions I make, but don’t flatter me.
- * I often speak in an assertive way. Don’t automatically assume it’s a personal attack.
- * When I scream, curse, and stomp around, try to remember that’s just the way I am.
What I Like About Being a Bette
- * being independent and self-reliant
- * being able to take charge and meet challenges head on
- * being courageous, straightforward, and honest
- * getting all the enjoyment I can out of life
- * supporting, empowering, and protecting those close to me
- * upholding just causes
What’s Hard About Being a Bette
- * overwhelming people with my bluntness; scaring them away when I don’t intend to
- * being restless and impatient with others’ incompetence
- * sticking my neck out for people and receiving no appreciation for it
- * never forgetting injuries or injustices
- * putting too much pressure on myself
- * getting high blood pressure when people don’t obey the rules or when things don’t go right
Bettes as Children Often
- * are independent; have an inner strength and a fighting spirit
- * are sometimes loners
- * seize control so they won’t be controlled
- * figure out others’ weaknesses
- * attack verbally or physically when provoked
- * take charge in the family because they perceive themselves as the strongest, or grow up in difficult or abusive surroundings
Bettes as Parents
- * are often loyal, caring, involved, and devoted
- * are sometimes overprotective
- * can be demanding, controlling, and rigid

I always thought of myself as an Eve Arden. The sassy and sarcastic friend to the star.
Not kidding, I typed the words Eve Arden into an email last night. And actually, by your description, I'm very much an Eve Arden.
Remember her in "Mildred Pierce", she is tall, classy, sassy, and has all the one liners. Fast-talking, witty, she was a classic "Broad" with large shoulder pads in her suits.
Mildred Pierce line:
"Veda's convinced me that alligators have the right idea: They eat their young."
I love Mildred Pierce. Also Mildred Fierce.
Yes, it's the tall classy that I don't identify with. I'm more like a softer side of Roseanne or Rosie O.
I'm a Bette too… I love Mildred Pierce as well, but had forgotten how great Now, Voyager is until it was on last night!
Tall is a state of mind, a good shoe AND short cropped jacket.
Anyone is tall when they KNOW they are!
Retro, I totally thought of putting one together, with the exact caveat that you mention. I just couldn't get it up to do it.
Since, I wanted to pick two answers to question one, I did the quiz twice.
I'm Bette and Ingrid. Strong and Unique apparently, but after reading the rest of the descriptions, I think I'm more Bette than Ingrid.
Anyways, that was fun!
I hope no one accidentally forgot to uncheck the box, and signed up to join! I almost missed that.
Jess, I did the test twice for the same reason. I'm Bette and Katharine. I like the idea of being Katharine better.
In the S1 DVD set, MW mentions that he originally saw Joan as an Eve Arden — until he saw what CH did with her.
I'm a Joan (Crawford), which is kind of ironic, since my well-used moniker "JungleRed" is based on the popular shade of red nailpolish that the gossipy manicurist uses on the women in "The Women", with Joan Crawford. Whom of which is why I loved that movie so much. I haven't seen the 2008 version, but i think i can say Eva Mendes will be no Joan Crawford.
The result completely fits.
I’m a Joan Crawford (excluding the Mommy Dearest part).
Karl, yes, that's true. Also he's described her as Katharine Hepburn; skinny, wise, wisecracking. Until CH came along.
I'm an Ingrid!
By the way, I have a new Joan fashion post going up Monday morning.
I’m a Jackie, which I think fits me pretty well. This was a really fun quiz. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us basket-cases.
I’d like to see a “which Mad Men Character are you” quiz, but one that doesn’t have really obvious answer choices, so you know who you’re going to get before you click, “get my answers”.
I'm a Jackie. Duh.
I'm Doris. Would have liked Audrey, just cuz I love her style so much, but I'm pretty sure my mom is an Audrey (she didn't even take the test, I just read it and thought "mama", ha!) And I pretty much fit Doris in all ways. Oh well, I'm just an insecure extrovert, what can I say or do about it?! You Lipps should do a Mad Men personality quiz. Though who wants to be a "Pete"? Yikes!
Bette with a machete. (totally a prop)
I'm an Ingrid…so appropriate, my mother looked so much like her.
I'm a total Ingrid, all the way.
Apparently I am an Audrey not a Bette. MacheteAudrey.
Huh, turns out I'm a Grace (Kelly). The first one on this thread, looks like? "Graces have a need for knowledge and are introverted, curious, analytical, and insightful." Well… blush!
BTW, the photo of Grace Kelly on the "You are a Grace!" page really looks amazingly like our Betty – I mean, even more so than usual:

im a marilyn….
“I am affectionate and skeptical”
I’m an Ingrid as well – unique, warm and perceptive.
Cool quiz.
I'm an Ingrid. Pretty cool test.
that was a great start to a monday! i'm a katherine, which i never expected to come up (i didn't know what options they had). reading the description was dead on … and only with two questions. that's nuts! thrilled to be on team hepburn.
Hmm… it seems I'm somewhere between Jackie and Ingrid. Sounds about right. I was a bit skeptical about there only being two questions, but both descriptions are more accurate than not.
I am an Ingrid, which rings uncannily true. Not to boast, but when my hair was longer and blond, people said I looked like a young Ingrid Bergman. Uncanny. . . .
I'm an Ingrid…and the quiz is totally right on. Matches with my Meyers-Briggs INFP status.
I'm a Katherine, which when I think about it, makes complete sense. Yet, the whole thing about as a child, wanting to be around other children was SO not true. I loved being by myself.
I'm a Grace. Which is odd. I do not feel like a Grace.
How did this test know that I'm a blonde?
According to this, I "have a need for knowledge and am introverted, curious, analytical, and insightful". All pretty much true. As is the thing about how, if you want to get along with me, you have to be independent. ("I need time alone to process my feelings and thoughts." Right on.)
When I think about it, this quiz is quite awesome.
Did anyone else recognize this test as the two-question enneagram test? It totally is. I'm an Ingrid, which is the same as saying I'm a 4. Which is true.
I'm a Katharine, too, which is funny, because Katharine Hepburn is my favorite actress.
Third Grace Kelly. I can live with that, although I do not think it fits me. Though Katherine would have been great, she is my favorite-
