Exclusive: Basket of Kisses interviews Matthew Weiner!!
Do not adjust your dial; you are reading this correctly. Matt Weiner will be speaking to my sister and me on October 27th, the day following the season finale.
We imagine, and he of course knows, that there will be plenty to discuss on that day. And we’re thrilled that he knows that the Basket is the place where the best discussions happen.
So tune in. Monday, October 27th. Expect a preview/teaser by 2pm Eastern time and the full interview will be posted by 6pm.
Ms. Dyna Moe will be supplying the custom décor. Bonus!
Thank you hullaballoo for your key role in making this happen.

Remind him that the typewriters in Season 1 weren’t period.
October 2nd, 2008 at 11:56 am
Yay! An official BoK interview with MW is far better than my peppering a friend-of-a-friend MM production assistant with questions – definitely looking forward to it.
(LOL, dansj!)

Love this blog, LOVE THE SHOW. Mad Men is the best hour on television, bar none. I love the writing, the characters, the direction, the sets, the fashion . . . I could go on and on.
That being said, I would by lying if I didn’t admit that Jon Hamm is the #1 reason I watch. Sometimes he’s at his most attractive while portraying Don Draper doing normal everyday things. I love the way Don buttons his jacket. I love to watch him lean back in his chair while conducting a meeting. Watch Don shave. Mmmmm, that was a favorite. Has he tied a tie yet? That I’d like to see.
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Don in a pink towel, having a breakdown. Bring it.
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:49 pm
Hey, how can I see previous posts? I don’t see a link or anything. Fill me in! Thanks.. but then if this page is gone again how do I find it?
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:53 pm
On the right side of the page, there is an Archives link. You can also search in the search box, or click on a Category.
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:54 pm
Thanks but all I see is Blogroll and Sites… Is it Blogroll? I thought that was other blogs… sorry for being so silly.
October 2nd, 2008 at 4:58 pm
It happens sometimes, depending on your browser, and usually only when there’s a post with a graphic, that one or the other sidebar will fall waaaaaay down to the bottom of the page. The right sidebar is doing that for me in IE right now, but not in Firefox (I have both open).
Keep scrolling until you can’t scroll any further and you’ll find it.
And rest assured, the archives are always there.
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:46 pm
See if you can’t get MW to hint at Season 3.
I’d love to know the year it’s going to take place.
October 2nd, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Ask him if was intentional that episode 7 of season 1 and 2 (“Red in the Face” and “The Gold Violin”) ended with somebody vomiting. And if he ever plans on asking David Chase to write an episode.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:13 pm
Epic Win, Roberta and Deborah! You know I think you’re pretty terrific, right?
October 2nd, 2008 at 9:35 pm
Guys, these are great ideas.
Jorge, thanks!
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:00 pm
Please ask MW how many other wives and children Don Draper/Dick Whitman has.
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:13 pm
I’m sure MW won’t tell us anything of that kind of detail, unless it is revealed via the remaining episodes of the season. He is famously protective of spoilers.
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:21 pm
@28 Roberta,
I know MW won’t let anything slip, but it is fun to watch/listen to someone NOT telling you something sometimes…
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Great work ladies!!! I love this site!
October 3rd, 2008 at 12:30 pm
I am so happy for you guys. But hey he sure isn’t an idiot, he knows who to talk to! I will definitely be here.
It would be extra special if you could DO IT AS A PODCAST though.
Hint. Hint. And not so subtle hint.

I want to know about the pantyhose. How come Peggy wore them and not one of the other women? Why was she an early hose intender?
October 4th, 2008 at 2:16 am
My feeling is yes. Deb and I discussed; pantyhose were uncomfortable and expensive. But Peggy is A) pretty practical, and B) working with the Playtex client. Samples?
October 4th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
How exciting for you guys. I’m kvelling.

I just posted this in the wrong place.
Sorry.
Should have been Stray thoughts….
October 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Congratulations Ladies! Way to go!
I have only one humble request: although you named it Quote of the Week, I beg you not to “Remind him (Mr. Weiner) that the typewriters in Season 1 weren’t period.” In light of the magnitude of important elements of this magnificent series, “who cares?”.
Congratulations again.
Peter G.
October 5th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
Peter G, thank you.
As for the quote/suggestion, both were purely in jest.

Hey Guys – actual question I’d love to ask MW, by proxy, if there’s time …
More than any other show, you have story arcs of so many different lengths. There are some huge series-long arcs, and shorter season- or episode-long arcs.
Being renewed one season at a time, how do you deal, creatively, with addressing so many major issues and deciding what needs to be revealed and when? Does the year-to-year nature of your relationship with AMC affect how you are telling this story?
October 6th, 2008 at 2:16 pm
what about the podcast thought? is that a possibility?? just wondering. the interview alone is fabulous but would love to hear the inflections, accents, laughing etc..
October 6th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
I believe a podcast was discussed, but I’m not sure if they were able to resolve some of the technical issues. Deborah, Roberta, were you ever able to find out about that?
