(sorry the Gloss is a little late this week… look at the post below for the latest in Mad News.)
Basket of What’dya-Misses?!
- News. Lots of news. Emmy news. And Emmys. Also Emmys. Because in case you haven’t heard… big week.
- But, back to business. Deborah wonders if Don really set Betty up to buy the Heineken, and discussion ensues:
(from Basketcase John Rothchild)
…Don was also COMPLEMENTED on his marketing smarts. Did Don throw a complement Betty’s way? Did he complement her style/culture/hospitality?NO.He kept all the good stuff for himself…
- I may have sussed out a theme for Season Two
- Ms. Darkly takes a look at life in and out of the closet, via Clay Aiken and Salvatore Romano
- Our BoK quote of the week:
- Dyna Moe does the Jackie/Marilyn ad. My idea!
- Own your very own Rothko!
- Once and for all, it’s settled. Joan’s fiancé=Joan’s fiancé.
Seriously, Jan needs to fire her gays.
Kisses on the Lipps
- Suzanne, a Reluctant Sherpa (and Ravenclaw which, okay), sends out some pretty Mad love Lipp style (and by Lipp style I mean, not only does she love us unabashedly, but she uses our name to its fullest advantage). She ties Don’s speech about the American Airlines pitch in with her own coaching, and coaching in general.
- Over at An Examined Life, lsaspacey does an interesting piece on how the Mad Men women are described in the pilot script (available online! I didn’t know!) and throws some kisses our way.
- Rondi at Begin Each Day As If It Were On Purpose now knows for sure that Christina Hendricks’ body is not a Mad Men creation.
- Enlightenment girl has a blog, and does in fact write about Mad Men from time to time, and does in fact link back to the Basket. All very cool!
- And Sarah at no.pocky considers Basket of Kisses synonymous with Mad Men. Which is how we like it.
- Addendum: Here’s one I missed. It’s a piece over at RBR.com (radio business report which like, you’d think I’d read, cause of how I was in radio… but there’s lots of things you’d think I’d read that I don’t) on how TV shows use sites and blogs to generate ratings, using Mad Men as its case-in-point. They discuss the AMC site, blog, etc., but then they move onto the other www activity, and include the Basket. (They also bring up the facebook site, which is yet another thing you’d think I’d be involved in, and yet I’m not. I’m on there, technically, but not really. I just don’t get facebook. Neither does Deb. And we know we’re like, supposed to.)
Back in the Kitchen where the Sausage is Made
- Deb and I had another working session. You gotta know, we don’t typically hang out in person this much. Life and stuff. We are doing this solely for this crazy blog thing. Anyway, work was accomplished. In response to feedback (*cough*Basketcase mob mentality*), we fixed up our Quotations page so it’s a lot more legible.
- Shit, I don’t remember what else we did. Deb, what else did we do? We’re starting to re-do the episode recaps; we decided we hate the way we’ve structured them, so all the existing ones (S1) are getting re-done, and S2 will follow suit. We are slowly working on S2; Deb completed FTWTY. But never fear, that’s what nine months of ‘downtime’ is for.
- Monday night I’m hosting Rosh Hashana for the first time. Maybe next week will include some family quotes… ahh, what a treasure trove.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

Hey, I made quote of the week. Thanks!
Just checking to see if anyone reads this feature
Not sure if this has been addressed but the Volume 2 Soundtrack came out last week. It's on iTunes and has some stuff from season 2 [and the Decemberists song!] plus a remix of A Beautiful Mine [theme song].
