  1. Is there a list of all the MM Emmy nominations?

  2. Wow, this is some early blogging. I am hopping I get home in time to start in the beginning. May have to join you after it starts cause I don't get off work until 7:15. Then gotta drive home and De-germ before I sit down. It's the Emmy's, I'll pull out the Dress Pajamas. The one's with the fancy clouds on them.

  3. OMG Go John, Jon, and Everything Mad Men!! O_O

  4. Okay, I'm watching the red carpet, and I'm boiling water for dinner, so I'm back and forth. Love me some Sandra Oh.

  5. Ohmigodz, Boreanaz in a tux, I think I just fainted.

  6. I'm all alone here.

  7. January looks beautiful! All in white, very form fitting.

  8. I really like her hair and whatever the sparkling headband-ish thing is! I'd like cleaner lines on the top though…

  9. Deborah, you're not alone! I'm multi-tasking: watching E!, switching over to Kimmel to see John Hamm, posting here (yay), and doing Library school coursework (grrrr).

  10. Jesus God, January Jones is wearing underwear and a tiara.

  11. (LOL) It does kind of make me think of what Scarlett might have been wearing under her hoop skirt.

  12. So the Desperate Housewives are presenting Best Supporting Actor in a Drama; potentially to their former co-star Slattery! And Eva Longoria just said it leads off the show.

  13. Christina looks gorgeous in an emerald green very low cut dress – wow..she really is "so much woman!"

  14. Christina Hendricks.

    Whoa.

  15. Ugh, I'm stuck at work until 9:30… Does anyone have an idea when the MM categories will be coming on?

  16. Apparently the strappy shiny headbands are in, at least for January and Christina. Did I miss John on the Kimmel thing already?

  17. What? When did I miss that? I've been glued!

  18. Oh, nevermind, I see her. Wow. Her headand is more Grecian urn, though. Very very very very hot hot hot.

  19. Joy, Slattery is up first or very early.

  20. Just saw Kyra Sedgwick with Kevin Bacon. That dude knows, like, everyone.

  21. Thanks, Deborah… *sob*
(Maybe a kind, tech-savvy BoKer will rip all the MM bits for me)

  22. OMG Supporting Actor in a Drama is first?!

  23. Okay, I've been cooking and doing some dishes. I'll be in and out. I've missed any of our peeps. Holy Holly in purple!

  24. Christian Siriano looks ridiculous. Holly Hunter, fantabulous. Lilac, she's wearing lilac! I haven't seen any of our boys or Elisabeth Moss.

  25. Is there a listing of the order of presentation? I can run up to the TVs in the cardio room to catch specific awards, like Best Supporting Actor, if I have an idea of when they'll be presented.
Worst. Night. To Be Working. Ever.

  26. The only reason I know about Supporting is because the Desperate Housewives chick said so.

  27. Just saw JH and Jennifer on the red carpet show on TVG – looking as good as two bodies have a right to! P*ss me off now we have to wait for the tape delay out here on the West Coast!

  28. Also Deborah mentioned she hadn't seen the boys – the TVG red carpet show had one clip of Bryan, Aaron, Michael and Rich all looking very dapper MM style but alas no interview…Aaron sporting a beard no less

  29. Thanks, Karl.

JJ played it safer than I'd expected, but it does look like an homage to Maidenform.

  30. @Karl, thanks for the pix links.

  31. Anyone have a pic of Jon Hamm?

  32. Oprah looks better all the time.

  33. Well this is just downright stupid – the Emmys are shown on tape delay on the west coast?

I'll have to rely on you guys for the info and wait until later to see how gorgeous all the ladies look.

Definitely looking forward to Christina and that green dress.

  34. I've been looking for Hamm pics, but no luck yet.

  35. I think Oprah is sick.

  36. Heidi Klum is the tallest!

  37. Karl you are way better at this than I am. Thanks!

  38. Love my Heidi!

  39. There's a specific schedule for red carpet arrivals. Makes sense that the leading actors would be later.

  40. I'd rather see "Jackie helps Jon Hamm undress after Emmy night".
Of course Kay will cut me.

  41. Heidi duded him!

  42. Now her pants are REALLY too short. :)

  43. That was some stupid shit.

  44. Not surprising DD had a hand in Jennifer's dress choice — very sheer white fabric with a lot of cutaway, but on her – perfect.

  45. Its totally ridiculous that the emmys are in LA, and I live here, and I have to wait…grrrrr.

PS does Heidi look orange? I work on project runway (the next season) and she's been looking like shes gotten a major spray tan.

  46. Hubba hubba, hulla.

  47. If Slattery loses, I think someone should mug Piven and give the thing Slattery.

  48. Jean Smart's dress is a little matronly. But her line about it was good.

  49. I love Jean Smart. I miss her former fatterness.

Christina Applegate may get a goodwill win.

  50. Karl, thank you so much for those pics.
CH: OMG, that dress just nearly caused a fashion-induced cardiac arrest!
JJ: She looks lovely as usual, but the corest style makes her look a bit like my grandmother's antique ceramic vase…

  51. I'm glad to see Christina Applegate there and looking healthy.

  52. How many commercials do they need???

  53. Re #52 and #53- I've heard the same, but you'll be happy to know that a girl who hooked up with him (an early 20s Maxim model type) was on Howard Stern and said Piven has a small dick and acted all desperate and clingy (calling constantly) afterward.

  54. Heidi's new dress is weird. On what planet is that flattering?

  55. Heidi left her napkin tucked in from dinner.

  56. @Jackie: Really? Aw… I've never seen Entourage, but I've always kind of dug Piven since PCU. :(

  57. I have to stick up for Jeremy Piven — I think he's sexy!!

  58. here it comesss…….

  59. Nervous!

  60. Damn it!

  61. Who? What? Boo!

  62. I really like that non-Danson Damages guy.

    Great Slattery clip!

    Fug.

Oh look though, the guy I like…

  63. SLATTERY WUZ ROBBED!!!

I'm sure this guy is okay, but really…

  64. I loved Piven in Grosse Point Blank; one of my favorite movies.

  65. LOVE Grosse Point Blank!! John Cusack and Jeremy Piven are my two favorites (well, besides JH of course :)

  66. Ricky Gervais is so funny! He needs to guest on MM.

  67. I have no problem with Piven's work, but yeah, you hear some less than flattering things offscreen.

  68. Cusack owes one of my co-workers money.

  69. That was GREAT. I love Steve Carrell.

  70. I gave Cusack my heart… and he gave me a pen.

  71. Aww John! :(

I'm a big fan of Damages and Zeljko was so incredible on it. Everyone in that category deserved to win, except for Shatner.

But obvs I wanted John to win.

  72. Oh, I was rooting for Chandra Wilson.

  73. Um, JLH has anime hair.

  74. What's wrong with JLH's hair? Hayden looked great for once.

  75. Right. And the In Treatment win is not good for us.

  76. The comedy writer intros are always great.

  77. Conan's was hilarious. :P

  78. Actually, I think it's variety/ talk show writers. I remember last year it was right after that senator's "wide stance" controversy and the Real Time with Bill Maher people were all in a men's room wide-stancing it.

  79. Knew they were leading up to the accountants — so predictable.

  80. Oh, Ms. Darkly . . . .I have seen Say Anything (no lie) about 250 times.
I can quote it almost word for word. LOVE it.

  81. Steve Martin is too funny!

  82. Steve Martin SO still got it!

  83. Tommy Smothers still got it too. Wow.

  84. Yeah seriously.

  85. Just checkin' in 'cos awards shows get on my last nerve!

  86. Too many commercials…

No wonder award shows last almost 4 hours.

  87. Isn't he January's boyfriend? Or former boyfriend?

  88. Go Josh!

  89. This is a disconcerting musical medley.

    No pun.

  90. I can't deal with Josh Groban. My tv's on mute right now.

  91. Animal!

  92. Deb, yeah maybe.

  93. Groban should have given us the Issac finger-point.

  94. What is this Josh Groban phenomenon? Not that I listen to whatever genre he is anyway.
Ok, the muppet/ X Files thing was funny.
Dear lord, never attempt gospel again Josh.

  95. The Law and Order duhnk duhnk is awesome.

  96. Josh Groban is awesome.

  97. That was…I can't believe I actually just saw that.

  98. I never got the Groban thing either…. So long is right lol

  99. Don't get Deb started on Alec Baldwin.

  100. I wanted to grow up and BE Carol Burnett.

If Alec Baldwin loses, will he call the voters "inconsiderate pigs"?

  101. Alec Baldwin: another actor doing fantastic work while completely insane offscreen.

    Good on Laura Linney.

  102. Love love love her.

  103. Laura Linney is too tall and too old for that length.

  104. Laura Linney deserved it.

  105. Ooh, political shot!

  106. I love Laura Linney, but I'm saddened that Ms. Rashad didn't win for her amazing performance in A Raisin In The Sun.

  107. Nice community organizer comment!

  108. #112 Ms. Darkly Me too!!!

  109. I'd rather the Hollywood liberals not mention politics. I say his having an Obama/Biden bumper magnet on back order.

  110. #122, back order is a good sign!

  111. Laugh in! I remember this, with the winodows.

  112. I love how they cut off the acceptance speeches, but will spend forever with random people saying, "sock it to me."

  113. Yup, but if I got it I'd be less annoyed with them asking for yet another donation three times a week minimum.

  114. All these extra bits are way extended.

  115. The list of people who are funnier than Jimmy Barrett continues to grow though. :)

  116. Alan Suess is in sad shape. I wonder what's the deal.

  117. Why is MY David B. presenting with that Hills chick?!

  118. David B does not look happy.

  119. Heidi just said "from The Bones." Heh. And here comes an award we didn't win.

  120. Hey, here's two categories pretty much created to give another award to 30 Rock. No wonder it got so many nominations.

  121. Ugh, I agree about the extended bits. They are definitely not needed.

I wouldn't watch this if Mad Men wasn't nominated for anything, but since it is, I'll just continue to gripe about how long they are making this show. ;)

  122. #132– I love that you said it's the award WE didn't win. We may be few but we are devoted!

  123. Danny Strong was Jonathan on Buffy.

  124. I think A Raisin in the Sun is one of the films people think don't need to be redone. You know, like the women. I thought the Puff Daddy version was weak.

  125. What happened to Laurence Fishburn?!

  126. Too much lunch.

  127. #151 He got fat and his arms got dwarfishly short in that silly red jacket?

  128. Jackie HAH!

  129. Yeah, can't lose playing Ben Franklin.

  130. Tom Wilkinson is the man.

  131. OMG, Stephen Colbert!

  132. Normally I loathe the filler, but at least it allowed me to not miss the MM awards until I got home! Although the gratitude is balanced by disgust at the posse of reality hosts who are supposed to keep us entertained in between awards… o_O

  133. clearly I have to watch more television. I haven't heard of most of these.

  134. Yeah, Whedonesque must be on fire.

  135. I think Jay Roach is married to Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles.

  136. Joy it's true they all SUCK at this.

  137. Good call, Ms. D.

  138. You haven't missed much with the filler – glad you back in time to see John Hamm win! :-)

  139. Was that a joke?

  140. LOL. Great response Ms. Jackie.

  141. Did they just cut that last guy off? He was getting so emotional, I wanted to hear what he was saying!

  142. By all means, cut off the man talking about the importance of language.

  143. Marylou,

The fact that you haven't heard of most of these is not necessarily a sign you need to watch more TV.

  144. Loved St. Elsewhere.

  145. The Cowboys are winning and it's halftime. During commercials, I have been watching the Emmys via DVR. I have fast fowarded through most of it, so I'm all caught up. I was disappointed that John Slattery didn't win. If he didn't, I was hoping "Ben" from Lost would have won. I also hoped The Office would have won the stuff it's been nominated for but so far, it hasn't happened. I was surprised that the pilot or Pie-lette of Pushing Daisies won. I watched all but one of that series and just couldn't get into Pushing Daisies. I love Kristin Chenoweth and the other supporting characters, but the main characters….not so much.
Ooh, there's Patrick Dempsey (yummy) and Sandra Oh, who looks lovely.

  146. Sandra Oh smiling? And god he is so mcdreamy…

  147. Eileen? Cause you're friends? She's a DAME forgodsake.

  148. Heh heh, whenever I go to work, I'm always reminded of St. Elsewhere. :P

  149. Sorry, can't get into Kathy Griffin.

  150. Don Rickles — the (f)un(ny) Jimmy Barrett.

  151. I just read there was some delay because an air rifle was found? Is that true?

  152. LOL, Ms. Darkly!!!

  153. Who could have predicted Patrick Dempsey would end up hot?

  154. Wow. Don't know.

    And Rickles still got it.

  155. Are those hair extensions Griffin is wearing? If so, I don't think they are too flattering although she looks great in that dress.

  156. Did Kathy Griffin lose weight, she looks skinny lately, and almost unrecognizable under all those extensions? Love her though.

  157. Halftime is over so I'm back to the game. I may pop back in later. If not, then everyone have a marvelous week!

  158. Her designer body is custom fitted. The dress could be off the rack.

  159. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three people were detained Sunday after police found an aerosol rifle in the trunk of a car at a checkpoint near the Emmy Awards show.

Some of the attendees at a drop-off location outside the Nokia Theatre got out of their cars and took cover behind a wall as they arrived for the show, said police Sgt. Jerry Chaney.

"Officers observed a rifle in a trunk of a car," Chaney said. "It turned out to be an aerosol rifle, not a real rifle. It's like a BB gun."

The people taken in for questioning were planning to attend the ceremony, Chaney said.

The area where the incident took place was not where stars were dropped off by limousine, but rather where media and other attendees entered.

"The LAPD made everyone en masse get out of the cars and walk to the curb while they searched the area," said Terry Stanley, a reporter with The Hollywood Reporter. "It was at least 10 minutes and we saw two big bomb squad trucks go by. Things were obviously taken very seriously."

No one was injured and the show went on as scheduled

  160. Not really a joke, I thought John Hamm was up for an Emmy and was rootin' for him to win.

  161. That was the most self-important introduction EVER. And Tin Man bit.

  162. Miniseries = John Adams.

    Hanks owns H'wood.

  163. The Amazing Race wins again?! I love that show, but c'mon now.

  164. I hear Hanks has a son who acts.

  165. Longoria and Felicity Huffman mentioned at the red carpet show that they had to get out of their limo and walk. But then they admitted they sent a golf cart for them.

Tom Hanks just called Sally Fields "Mom." Heh.

  166. This show sucks.

    just saying.

  167. Yeah. Bored. Show some Mad Men.

  168. Cut out the crappy filler and then when people like Tom Effin' Hanks wants to talk… let him!

  169. Deborah Lipp writes:

That was the most self-important introduction EVER.

Thus proving her comment @146 that she never watched the Emmys before. ;-)

  170. Yep. Show sucks. They should just let Rickles do the rest of it.

  171. Amen, Ms. D. This is why I hate awards shows. The fillers and cutting off really great speeches. That and people trying to promote their politics without humor.
As stated by others earlier, if it weren't for this blog…would be doing something else. Like organzing my sock drawer.

  172. Is Heidi's tattoo new or does she usually cover it with makeup? I only noticed it in a magazine recently.

  173. Well, it's kind of hard to expect people like us who love deep, scripted dramas to actually enjoy four hours of non-actors who shouldn't even be on television making weak jokes. :/

  174. LOL Karl.

  175. Pretty much knew Rickles would win. It's not like he would have shown up otherwise.

  176. Oh, HERE'S where they diss Robert Morse.

  177. OMG!! PLEASE!

  178. I have a crush on Wayne Brady.

  179. This In Treatment business definitely has me concerned.

  180. Robert Morse in MM vs Cynthia Nixon in SVU? Gosh, there's a match up…

  181. Hey Deborah, I thought your TV and your computer were in separate locations. Did you get a new toy?

  182. Okay. We're finally here.

  183. Hmm…lots of black dresses tonight, they said the Oscar dresses were more conservative too because of the economy.

  184. This is one of ours.

  185. We are not amused : |

  186. I hate this show.

  187. WHAT?!?! HOUSE?!

  188. It's hard to know if that was a good call since I didn't see House.

  189. I'm getting a bad feeling about tonight, guys.

  190. The MM loss(es) wouldn't bother me so much if they weren't in favor of such unoriginal, rehashed doc-drama/procedurals…

  191. Shit! What is going on? Is it all just politics with these people? Not that I watch House, but still…

  192. House is an Emmy Favorite.

  193. Didn't see Cynthia Nixon in Law and Order (I did know Miranda!) and don't know who that other guys was.

  194. I think this will be in our favor…

  195. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  196. Finally!

  197. FINALLY!!

  198. Yes!! Finally!!

  199. YES!!!!!!

  200. Yes!

  201. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  202. Oooo here it is Matthew Weiner

    WOo Hooo!!!!

  203. So what category did we just lose?

  204. YES. I wanted "The Wheel" to win, but this is all good.

  205. Weiner wins! And I'll bet he's a little surprised, figuring 2 noms would split the MM vote.

  206. My heart is pounding, I'm so thrilled.

  207. Alan Taylor lost the director award to some HOUSE guy.

  208. Ellis has therapy in his future.

  209. I was like wait he forgot to say Glen! Real life lol

  210. I like House, love Hugh Laurie, and enjoyed that episode — but that was bogus!

  211. I just rewound… I love how he paused to hear which episode he won for.

    He looks so handsome!

Robin Veith pronounced like Matthew Weiner.

Martin, Charlie, Arlo and the other one… Ellis.

  212. Smoke. Yes. Yes it is. But I am concerned with all the In Treatment awards.

  213. Wilkinson was nominated for lead and supporting for the SAME THING?

    The Emmys are fucked.

  214. I'm a Giamatti fan. Hanks rules H'wood.

  215. "Wilkinson was nominated for lead and supporting for the SAME THING?"

    No; John Adams and Recount.

  216. No. Supporting for John Adams and Lead for Recount. Which is a serious stretch.

  217. Yeah, it was great, but Smoke was better.

  218. Oh, sorry. So hard to pay attention to this dreck.

Don't ask me about Alec Baldwin.

  219. Is Alex Baldwin dating Laura "Carly Corinthos" Wright?!

  220. We won't ask you about Alec Badwin… but if you'd care to share?

  221. Alec: Classy. Crazy, but classy.

  222. I don't even understand why Two and a Half Men is even still on the air, let alone getting Emmy noms?

  223. Damn! I was rooting for Holly Hunter second only to rooting for Mad Men. I love that show!

  224. MM WOMEN WUZ ROBBED!!!

    Just a reminder.

  225. Um, there is only one real Carly… and that's Sarah Brown. I quite watching when she left.

  226. Joy asks:

I don’t even understand why Two and a Half Men is even still on the air, let alone getting Emmy noms?

Sheen is the highest-paid actor on TV.

Remember, we are watching a trade show.

  227. Hell yeah. I'm so glad that Glenn Close won for her amazing performance in Damages.

  228. And here we have the Queen of the Bunny Boilers! (Peggy, are you paying attention? Success can be yours too!)

  229. Who cuts of Glenn Close?

  230. Karl: I haven't really watched these shows since high school, so I don't know how the trade aspect fits in. I would assume they reward award-winners with high salaries, not vice versa…?

  231. Harvey Korman just reached from beyond the grave and cracked me up.

  232. Roberta, that's just what I was thinking.

  233. Joy,

I'm saying that awards shows in general are trade shows. Which pictures win the Oscar? Look at each year's best picture nominees, then pick the one that made the most.

This year, take a look at the John Adams thing. I loved it, but the fact that it's Hanks behind it is huge. The man practically rns the Motion Pics Academy. And so on.

  234. WTF is National Stay At Home Week?

  235. Fingers crossed.

  236. fucking fuck fuck.

    fuck.

  237. Fuuuuuuuuuck!

  238. Aww, FUCK!

  239. Aw, I love MM, but Bryan Cranston is *fantastic* in Breaking Bad – I'm really glad he won!

  240. Are you KIDDING me?

  241. Well, at LEAST James Spader didn't win. Damn it.

  242. Four noms; Hamm waits his turn.

  243. fuck. fuck.

    fuck.

  244. How can John, or any of them, look so happy when they lose?

  245. boo no happy with this.

  246. Fucking fuckers with their fucking fuck votes! Fuck! Fuuuuck!

  247. Brooke looks hot!

  248. Crap. Can I say that on here?? ;)
    Love Craig Ferguson

  249. Jackie asks:

WTF is National Stay At Home Week?

ABC trying to get you to watch their network.

  250. Karl: I can usually guess the Oscars (most lucrative, schmalzy epic wins), but I just can't believe T&1/2M can be that big in the ratings to pull in the big $$ (and then, as you say, win the big awards).

  251. Ooh, sexual harrassment jokes. So "funny."

  252. I'm sinking into a depression. Just thought you all should know.

  253. ACD1985… they are actors.

  254. fuck.

  255. Good night all! See you next week. Thank you once again Lipp Sisters!

  256. flyme, you crack me up. Twelve people said "fuck" and you want permission for "crap"? Well, permission is YOURS!

  257. I love Craig Ferguson, too.

  258. ooh, look, it's Sarah Palin. I mean, Tina Fey

  259. Another thing to remember about trade shows. Just as the Oscars love movies about actors and movies, the Emmys love shows about TV.

  260. Deb – that's why I asked permission (he he!)

  261. #292 I'm thinking Charlie Sheen is the Ken of Hollywood. That show is staying on for.ev.er.

  262. Wow, who is Heidi wearing?

  263. You're right, that was a dumb comment. It would be exhausting to almost always have to be one.

  264. Harry Crane you need to have a really BIG TV story line in S3 MM so all the MM crew can win Emmys!

  265. I can't help it — laughing at the send up of the way reality shows draw out results.

  266. I'm really bummed though. I wanted to see John Hamm get up there and give a speech. Of all things, he wins last year and we don't get to see him cuz of the strike, he gets a nomination this year and doesn't win. Bummer.

When will they announce the other categories – make up, costumes, etc – that Mad Men is nominated for? Did they already do it or is it coming? I missed part, did record it though.

  267. Actually, I think Hamm looked surprised as anyone that Bryan Cranston finally won.

  268. fuck. I am so not happy.

    fuck.

  269. And I'm a huge fan of James Spader.

  270. *sigh* I hear ya, Jackie. Actually, I wouldn't really mind so much if MM lost in most categories, as long as it's still acknowledged as a good investment by AMC and we get more seasons. I just know that most intelligent, expensive shows that *don't* win awards face the axe.

  271. Karl, also, it's AMC. I think Cranston was NOT expected to win, and he's kind of extended family, so Hamm was pleased-ish.

  272. That's my fear — that not enough Emmys means no season 3.

  273. MM S3 should be a given. Asia awaits and MM will be HUGE!

  274. The makeup, etc., stuff are "Creative Arts" Emmys; they were awarded last week. We reported it. MM won 4 of the 10 it was nominated for, leaving 6 for tonight. So far it lost director, actor, and supporting actor, won writer, no award yet for best show, and I'll be damned if I can think of the sixth.

  275. I like the backdrops.

  276. I wouldn't worry about the Emmy impact on the show too much if MM loses. It's pulling about 1.5 million viewers weekly now — about a 50% increase from last year. An Emmy would help, but new shows usually don't take the Emmy.

  277. Poor MTM, looks like she's in a wind tunnel all the time. Then again, she's 71 and has diabetes, so I suppose I should cut her some slack. She needs to ease up on the plastic surgery though.

  278. Love Betty White — she's another person who really helps animals.

  279. D.Lipp:

Weiner had two noms for writing.

  280. Roberta must be dying of the happy. MTM is like her favorite show ever.

  281. Ohh, Betty White! I loved her growing up – she was my fantasy surrogate grandma. :)

  282. MTM's arms are scary. I hate seeing older stars, it's so much nicer thinking of them as in their prime and living forever.

  283. Oh, Karl, thanks. So they could never have won more than 5. Silly me.

  284. MTM has not aged well; has not really looked good since Ordinary People.

  285. Wow, "rock" that shill, Tina…

  286. Save that thang.

  287. nervous wreck.

  288. Thanks for letting me know on the other awards. Here we go the drama series . . .

  289. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  290. Yes!!!

  291. Thank you YES!!!!

  292. I just woke up my neighbors.

  293. I can't believe they snubbed John Hamm, but I was hoping it was because of this!

  294. Who's the beauty in the OTHER green dress, she went by so fast?

  295. A merry widow? Maybe Don DOES plunge to his death. ;)

  296. flyme,

I linked to a pic of January upthread.

  297. Really: See all these genetically blessed people? Here's where you can find them…

  298. You know, I'm kind of glad the ladies weren't nominated this year, because if they had lost they I would have been *pissed*. And then that would have dampened the thrill of winning Best Drama somewhat…

  299. Jigga, what? Why isn't the E! channel doing post-show?

  300. I'm not sure where that name came from, today we would call it a bustier, but in the 60s, when my mother was married, she wore one of these and they called it a merry widow. It was supposed to slim a girl down, which my 5'9", 125 lb mother didn't need, ha! But she wore one with her wedding gown cuz it was required attire.

  301. Yeah, I'm miffed at E! at the moment also.

  302. I just read on Wikipedia the show won!!! Congrats to Mad Men!!!!!

  303. Yay! I'm so glad Mad Men won best drama. I gotta finish watching the game. Looking forward to discussing next week's episode.
    Have a great week.

  304. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corselet

    Merry widow

In 1955 a corselette by Warner's was released and named after The Merry Widow, an operetta from 1905 that later became a Hollywood movie.[3] This new merry widow featured demi-cups and a shorter girdle compared to its predecessors.

The original merry widow foundation garment was also a corselette that incorporated slim panels of black elastic yarn net. A heavy-duty zipper was inserted behind a velvet-backed hook-and-eye flange, and the whole garment was lined with nylon voile. Nine long spiral wires were cased in black satin.

Lana Turner is quoted as having said, "I am telling you, the merry widow was designed by a man. A woman would never do that to another woman."

To this day, "merry widow" is the generic term for a corselette bra in the United States. This type of lingerie is also known as a torsolette, and is used in bridal lingerie, similar to the bustier.

  305. @354 Ms. Darkly,
I think by end of the run of MM we may well be wishing that that is what DD does.

  306. The awards weren't that fun — 'cept for the winning parts — but you all were fun.

  307. Hear hear, Ms. D! I'm very grateful for such a fun group of fellow fans to enjoy S2 and its victories with!

  308. Deb, that was Maggie Siff in green. Stunning.

  309. Ha! Thanks Darkly, my mother would love the info on the merry widow! I'll have to tell her it's on Wiki, she's asked me before if anyone calls these merry widows anymore and I have told her I've never seen the term on line (ebay, etc.) Anyway, thanks for looking it up. Now I guess I'm going to watch the rerun of Mad Men on AMC. Glad they won for drama, might help the series continue even longer!!

  310. Both MS and CH looked gorgeous this evening… I was planning to dress as Joan for Halloween, but after seeing that gown, I'd rather go as Christina!

  311. BTW, this should end those comments about CH wearing padding for the show. That is one curvy woman.

  312. The live blog was a lot of fun. Good night, guys. I'm off to watch "Three Sundays" again.

  313. According to IMDB, Episode 9 was on tonight! A new episode!!!!! Aaack!

  314. They lied. It was a repeat.

  315. Good night folks, glad I was able to watch the Emmys with you all (since I probably wouldn't have otherwise) – and thanks again to our lovely hostesses!

  316. Never mind.

  317. But lemme tell you, even my DVR 'info' button tells me that tonight's is a new episode. And went and recorded it. And it's only set to record first-run episodes. But it's a repeat. I think it was a last minute switch-out. I nearly had me a heart attack, just now, thinking we'd all missed out on a new one.

  318. Our pleasure. Noah's over in the newer post, serving the congrats cocktails.

  319. Award shows are always full of silly filler. I remember when TV's didn't even have remotes for checking out other shows during the dull bits. Now we have the Internet for simultaneous snarking. And researching: http://www.rubylane.com/ni/shops/baublesbanglesan

"I dreamed I attended the Emmys in my Maidenform Merry Widow." JJ looked barely pubescent in her outfit, but CH would make most of us look under-developed. (Nope, no padding for her!)

And all the MM folks got to hit the stage at the end. Here's to future successes!

  320. Apparently the new show is available on demand in some areas. IMDB actually has some new photos from episode 9. I wonder if it'll be on ITUNES tomorrow.

  321. Hull, that's just weird. I'm wondering too.

    AMC fucked UP!!!

  322. AMC? Fuck up? When has AMC ever… oh, never mind.

  323. Might want to double-check; my OnDemand still has 208 marked as "NEW."

  324. Heidi’s pants are too short.

  325. Poor Doogie and Dwight.

  326. I’ve heard Jeremy Piven is as douche.

  327. ^ i heard that too

  328. He is rehearsing Speed the Plow with Elisabeth Moss.

  329. I thought January Jones' hair looked stunning,and her makeup.Though I wasn't a fan of the dress.

  330. *very interesting*

    Well done, Jon Stewart!

  331. That Curb You Enthusiam clip made me remember when Junior on the Sopranos thought he was Larry David in the show. It’s odd to have a Soprano-less Emmys, although maybe they didn’t qualify during that 15-month break that time.

  332. There’s something about calling someone “multi-nominee” that sounds a little like a disorder.

  333. I still can’t believe she said “The Bones.”

Bones was a heartbreaker the other night — centered around dog fighting. I know Emily Deschanel is a vegan and I think David Boreanaz had done some PETA stuff. (Hate PETA) Anyhow, wonder which one came up with the idea.

  334. Tonight I’m actually glad to be on the west coast. I detest award shows, but with this live blogging, I can get a glimpse of what’s happening, when. That way I can tune in to specific moments of the show, or not at all if we don’t win anything. Whoopee. Thank you Basketcases!

  335. Wow, this guy is as fey as Alan Seuss.

  336. “Don’t worry, there won’t be another strike, we promise.”

  337. Feyer than Tina Fey.

  338. the saying “sock it to me” was never all that funny to me. But the nostaglia of the windows. all in all, I could do without the bits here. I don’t typically watch the Emmy’s so maybe the bits are a loved partof the show?

  339. Recount!!!!!!!!!!!!

  340. I’ve never watched the Emmys before. What blogging will do to you!

  341. I know that we’re in a political year, but Recount over A Raisin in the Sun?! Even Puff Daddy was somewhat decent in that tv film.

  342. She thanked Danny Strong; the folks at Whedonesque just went crazy.

  343. I’m actually getting misty!!!

  344. Hullaballo – We lost Best Director for a Dramatic series to House.

  345. Deb, jesus, the House season finale was genius last year and you know it!

  346. Taylor, the originator of the Jon Hamm head shot didn’t win? Damn. But Weiner wins for, was it “Smoke”? That’s kind of a good sign, isn’t it?

  347. Hard to say how the In Treatment and House wins play out. As I noted, House is an Emmy fave — could be a portent or could be consolation prizes that clear the way for Best Actor and Drama.

  348. I think MM was nominated for so many awards they’re trying to parse them out so we don’t sweep – I bet we’ll get the big ones.

We BETTER get the big ones!

  349. by. concerned by.

  350. That Weiner won with two noms is a good sign, but remember that the pilot was widely-read in the biz.

  351. George Carlin died twice?

  352. What a minute. They cut off Glenn Close, Tom Hanks and the guy who won for Recount to have TIME for that reality tv host bit?!

  353. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  354. YES WE DID IT!

  355. Whoooo!

  356. THANK GOD! I KNEW IT WHEN THE AUDIENCE CHEERED SO BIG AT THE END FOR THEM!

  357. I’m seriously crying!!

  358. Thank God!

  359. YES!!! FUCK YES!!!

  360. AAAAAAAHHHH!!!!! YES!!!!!! :) :) :)

OK, now THIS one I’m psyched about!

  361. Lizzie not getting fugged tonight!

  362. So all I have to watch is the last 5 minutes? Woo hoo!

  363. I’m pleasantly surprised to see “Rachel” there. She’s not sitting with the Sons of Anarchy people?

  364. Christina Hendrick’s tits are the 8th Wonder(s) of the world.

    So happy.

  365. I’m crying just because it’s so right and wonderful that MM won!

EVERYBODY involved in creating and bring MM to life should feel incredible proud.

    THANK YOU FOR MM!

  366. See, Weiner should have gotten the stars out front and just told people where they could be seen every week.

  367. Got to see that bustier thing that JJ is wearing. Yikes! Looks like what my mama calls a “merry widow” with a skirt attached!
