Collection Basket–BoK posts this week
- Open Thread for A Night To Remember–I’m literally about 150 comments behind on my reading. It’s still going! And what an episode. I can’t stop thinking about it.
- Ms. Darkly wrote a hell of a piece about the women in A Night To Remember:
- MarlyK wonders, with Marilyn in one hand and Jackie on the other, what happened to Rosie the Riveter?
- B. Cooper talks about the Barretts:
- Our buddy Rich Sommer was interviewed over at AMC’s blog
- Deb gathers (is it a gather when it’s only one?) a Catholic opinion on Father Gill
- As The World Turns. All the info you could ever want.
- Basketeers invent Mad Men themed drinks. ‘Cause we’re just cool like that.
- News to the left of me, Emmys to the right
This episode asked us to see, really see, these women at their most honest and open, when the body shapers are kicked aside, and the Belle Jolie is wiped off, and all the defense mechanisms have fallen away, and the viewer is enriched by this knowledge.
The MM men reflect the need to hold on to these retro images of women, not just out of their own fear of emasculation but precisely because they feel their own vulnerability.
In a way, they both serve the same purpose – they’re kind of a two-person Greek Chorus, reminding the main characters who they are who they really are.
Kisses on the Lipps
- A blog called Four Eleven listed the Basket in its top ‘Mad Men sites you will love’ spot.
Back in the Kitchen where the Sausage is Made
- Contest!? We don’t need no stinkin’g contest! (just kidding. we do. you do. go enter, if you haven’t.)
- omigod Deb and I worked together for like eight straight hours last Saturday. Two laptops and a lot of coffee. And like three meal breaks. Sections have been updated. Phone calls made. Stuff got done. Our categories are… better. Trust me, they’re better. All kinds of reworked. Character bios are updated. Revisions are afoot. And we’re doing it tomorrow too. Making sausage.
- Plans. Look for announcements. Big things rolling out.
- Also the blogroll now features better named, better linked connections for Attention Deficit Theatre and Dyna Moe’s genius artwork
- Oh yes and the quotes page has been updated. La di da. La di da. la la.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

There are :"millions" of articles about Mad Men these days (amazing!), but I though this short, but insightful article today in the NY Daily News was interesting:

Has this "Mad Men Cereal" been included?

@2 Kay:
Good find. I love the idea of the cereal, but the designers messed up. They have a picture of O's on the box of Mad Men Flakes, and a picture of flakes on the box of Battlestrawberry Galactic-Os. They should have changed the names or reversed the pictures.
