I noticed that, for office meetings, the drinks in the middle of the table are Bloody Marys and Screwdrivers.....with the option, of course, for whatever ELSE is available from their well-stocked supply, for the asking!

And let's not forget Sally's special Daddy's Bloody Mary: A tall glass of vodka with just enough tomato juice to turn it pink.

@Brenda - Wow, I can't wait to try that one!

@Retrogirl - That's a great idea, although probably a bit easier than a "challenge", since spirits are the tricky part! I'm working on something called "Peggy's Twist" (brandy-based, but lo-cal), but I'm going to see if I can come up with something Sally-suitable as well...

These all sound great, but I have request or a challenge depending on how you look at it. I don't drink, and I'm sure I'm not the only "Mad Men" fan who doesn't (although I know I'm in the minority on this one.) I think it would be great to have a non-alcholic drink. I was thinking of the Sally Drapper or Peggy Olson, but I'm up for any other suggestions people have.

Any MM cocktail party would have to include champagne, since that's what Betty was drinking at the Stork Club.

Betty's Blue Charmeuse
6 oz Champagne or sparkling wine
1 T Blue Curacao
1 sugar cube

Place the sugar cube in the bottom of a flute, top with curacao, and pour in champagne. Be careful riding in Cadillacs.

@Marylou:
The Don on the Beach is particularly sweet for a rye drink - Manhattan's are a great way to go for regular rye drinking, and I actually prefer mine neat. Then again, I prefer all my cocktails as close to straight spirits as possible - my personal non-special-occasion drink is an *extra* dry Bombay martini, straight up with a twist.

Joan strikes me as a luscious cherry gone sour, so I came up with the fruitier "Scarlet Sashay" for her drink. Kind of like a cosmo, but more intense. Plus, if you get sloshed like Petra Colson and spill it on your vampy carmine dress, nobody will notice!

The Scarlet Sashay
- 3 pt pineapple-infused vodka
- 2 pt sour cherry juice
- 1 pt bing (sweet) cherry juice
- 1 pt cranberry juice

Shake w/ ice, then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with frozen raspberries, to keep the chill and add additional flavor as they thaw.

A true Manhattan is made with rye and Don drinks rye (whiskey) neat as well. A cheap and very good brand of rye is Old Overholt. No reason to buy the $100 bottles of the stuff, Old Overholt is about $12.99. Once upon a time I worked for beverage alcohol magazines and the editor who really knows his stuff couldn't say enough nice things about Old Overholt. Rye is a little sweeter than the average whiskey which makes it smooth going down. It's not a sissy drink though.

My favorite rye drink is actually a highball made of Old Overholt and Blenheim's spicy ginger ale. Sort of turns the purpose of a highball on its head.

And my favorite whiskey moment is actually from Miller's Crossing the opening when Gabriel Byrne plops ice cubes in a glass and pours whiskey over them. Makes me run for the liquor cabinet every time. And all of The Thin Man is nice. It shows you how to solve murder mysteries while being witty and drinking martinis and rye the whole time.

Don also drinks whiskey, neat. When out to charm a client he'd insulted earlier that day.

Patti, agreed. Me too. Don and Betty hacking their lungs up in 5G.
