Happiest of birthdays, Mr. Slattery. You seem to be having a remarkable run.
It’s so funny. Every once in awhile this will happen… you’ll get charmed by an actor who is playing a sincere and disarming character, and then after that, it’s bastard after bastard. I first dug John Slattery as Al Kahn, the new-in-town (I think) knee-weakening and oh so sincere woo-er of the mom on Homefront.
(This was the case with Erich Anderson, who played Billy Sidel on thirtysomething… could not have loved him more. Then he was all evil on Star Trek, Next Generation, and even more evil as Don Kirkendall on NYPD Blue.)
And, well, okay, he was pretty likable as Will’s brother on Will and Grace. I don’t watch those housewives, but I hear he had unusual proclivities. But maybe I push my point.
Regardless, Mad Men is a better show for having him in this role. I can’t imagine it without the dynamic. And of course, he and Hamm are just too fucking funny together, and should just do a whole talk show circuit together. Too adorable.
Happy birthday. Hope you have an even better year. Have a veritable basket of kisses from us!
(Oh, and John, if you’re reading this… I am friends with your babysitter’s sister. If, I dunno, somehow that makes you want to be our friend or something. Just saying.)

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.

That's a GORGEOUS graphic.
And lest we not forget, he played a perverted politician (yet another bastard) in Sex and the City… and in an act of supreme kink, asked Carrie (SJP) to urinate on him. Try as I might, I can't let it go! Help!
As amazing he is on screen, he's that much more amazing live on stage. If John does Broadway or any theatre again (he probably will again someday, it's in his blood
), you must go to see him.
*oops submitted my post too fast above*
Since you ladies live in the New York area, have you had the chance to see any of John's plays?
Honestly, I didn't even know he was a theater guy, but Roberta is the theaterish one in the family.
Oh yeah, he's very much a theater guy. Both he and Talia are involved.
That's one of the main reasons I have always admired John and his career, because he excels at tv, film, and theater.
After 20 years of acting, it's about damn time he's recognized for his talent and hard work.
I thought I was the only one who remembered Homefront! I fell for him on that show too, and have loved him ever since. That might still be my favorite role he played.
Hopefully for his birthday he’ll get a belated gift in September… as in an Emmy!
Happy Birthday John!
I'm the theatre one, but I don't keep up well or ever get to see anything. So nope, never seen either of them.
Cindo, it's getting hard, watching Roger Sterling, to remember how sweet and sexy he was on Homefront. I think I may have caught a few moments of him on Ed, and maybe he struck a similar chord on that show.
Happy Birthyday, John! The scenes with Roger are some of my husband's and my favorites.
On Ed he wasn't an overly nice guy but very sexy. I never saw Homefront so I've only seen him as a seemingly sweet guy with bastard undertones (Ed) and bastard with sweet undertones (Mad Men), I'll take him either way and completely understand why his wife married him and isn't pining for George Clooney.
It's also Steve Martin's which somehow seems appropriate.
My first John Slattery experience was on a short-lived sitcom (I think it was on Lifetime) called Maggie, starting Ann Cusack as a married woman who goes to work for a veterinarian (Slattery), and she starts to fall in love with him (of course!). Their chemistry was sizzling, and I was not happy when the show was cancelled.
Happy birthday, you silver fox!
Happy Birthday you silver haired Fox! I have loved you since "Homefront". I'll even forgive you for the stint as a golden shower politician on Sex & the City. Man's got to make a living. PS – Cool that he gets to work with his wife as his wife.
I loved him on Homefront too! Especially when his wife got polio and he was there for her. Swoon.
Oh my lord–he's actually 4 months YOUNGER than me!!! He just turned 46! Either I am older than I realized or he looks much older (though still cute and what I thought was a youthful-looking older man). That isn't what 46 really looks like is it?
Happy Belated Birthday, Mr. Slattery!
I first saw him on Ed. He was fantastic in is his role. Loved that show at times. Just wish the lead female role would have been better written.
