Is anyone out there having picture quality problems with season 2 that were not there with season 1? In other words, same tv, same service provider (cable or satellite), different picture?
If so, I’d like to hear about it in comments. Thanks.
I have heard of this problem also from others – one on the west coast. I have Comcast digital cable TV in Connecticut – and I watched both episodes as follows: As Originally broadcast on regular-AMC and AMC-HD, and then ON DEMAND on High Defintion. I have an HD TV (720p). Both looked excellent on my TV. No problems.
I have Comcast and a shiny new HDTV. There was quite a bit of graininess so far in season 2, particularly the second ep. I haven't yet watched them On Demand, so I don't know if that's better quality.
It looked just splendid on my 50" flat screen. The colors just burst. I kinda thought the flat quality of the print was to mimic the type of film used back in the 60's. The kinda of quality of say a Doris Day movie.
Just wanted to put in my 2 cents (actually worth a bit more in 1962!). I downloaded Flight 1 on ITunes and have watched it on my widescreen laptop. To say there was a difference in quality from my DirectTV feed is an understatement. The muddy look is gone and the crispness jumped out on the LCD screen. I'm wondering if the broadcast is attuned to the latest or high-end equipment for maximum viewing pleasure. In keeping with our 1960's world (I will debut in Season 3 given Matt's time jumping) analogies, this is how I vaguely remember the feeling of going from B&W TV to the Magnavox color set my dad bought for us in 1970.

The AMC Blog has a topic on this issue (but no answers):

I have been noticing a grainy picture when watching mad men s2. I have Time warner cable
I have Charter Cable in the L.A. area, and my broadcast is grainy, as well. I don't have AMC-HD, but I do have an HD TV.
I noticed the quality was lackluster as well.

I really appreciate everyone chiming in.
