Collection Basket–BoK posts this week
- Except for Elisabeth Moss’s birthday (which I kind of missed), it’s been nothing but news, news news. And, y’know, the premiere.
- I mean, frankly, you should just make sure you go and read everything we’ve posted this week, and all the amazing comments. But fine, make me do this…
- I posted a recap of the events in the lives of the characters in this show during the first season.
- Matthew Weiner answered my question in the AMC live chat following the premiere. Holy crap. He boggles my mind and giggles my shit. I just can’t shut up about it. (Plus, ftr, he knows who we are. He absolutely knew who was asking the question, and the fact that he gave the Basket such props by picking my question is just… okay FINE I’ll shut up about it!)
- Deb answers some questions about FTWTY.
- Deb also wrote (look, I took one day off to go to the beach!) an intriguing post about Trudy Campbell’s grief, which sparked as interesting a discussion as we have ever had about women and fertility and all kinds of spin-off topics.
- The AMC blog is no us, but they do lots of cool tricks.
- Triggered by an article that clearly does not ‘get’ this show, Deb posts about women as a niche market. You’ve come a short way, baby.
- Our B. Cooper does a summary sort of thing on For Those Who Think Young that is insightful and hilarious to the comparability of Attention Deficit Theatre. I want one every week.
- Ms. Darkly’s post on the Hitchcock Blonde drew fascinating comparisons and sparked wonderful discussions.
- Instructions available on How to Throw a Mad Men Party.
- A couple places to go to find out more about the music on the show.
Kisses on the Lipps
- FangrrlMagnet compiled a BoKworthy roundup of Mad Men news and mentions, giving us a lovely link and calling us ’swanky’. ‘Course, that was before our MM S2 premiere geekfest party.
- The Watcher, aka Maureen Ryan, is all about Kitty Romano, because she is played by Sarah Drew, who apparently used to be on Everwood, and who apparently Mo Ryan loved bunches on that show. And while she was talking Mad Men, she was talking Basket, and that just pitters our patter.
- Professor Barnhardt’s Journal (a web magazine. blog. whatever.) gave the Basket proper linkdom.
- And speaking of ADD Theatre, we got a lovely nod from our girl Kristin (Hidey!). So glad she’s back with the new season, and in full form!
- Okay and speaking of Ms. Darkly’s Hitchcock Blonde post, we made IMDb’s front page today!
Screen grab from IMDb.com. It reproduced weirdly fuzzy, but you can see it in all its glory when you click on the image.
- New Basketcase Jeff K talks about Mad Men (and Italian Spiderman?) over at his blog, Open Hockey. Throws the Basket a little love while he was at it. Thanks, Jeff.
- Gatsbyfan kicks off a FTWTY discussion on Live Journal, opening with a link to my genius post that summed up the events (as opposed to the discoveries) of S1.
- Tom Watson at newcritics offers up a very full look at the cultural relevance, and overall quality, of the show, as it enters its second season. He and his blogging partner M. A. Peel may have mixed feelings about the show, but not about BoK!
- You may not know that Deborah does a weekly movie review, cross-posted at that. Well this week it was not so much about a film, but about FTWTY. Worth a look, and of course, she shouts it out right back to us.
- Greg Hughes at GJH got his cat back. (???) Okay, but in a related story, he loves us here at the Basket, (Greg is now offically making me a little blushy), and in fact gives ‘LippSisters’ the credit for B. Cooper’s posting of the Times Square photos. (We’ll take it; we have no shame.)
- We’re getting links in other languages!
- At thinkradical.org, the origins of campaign ads gives us a little hit.
- Basketcase and blogger Rondi Adamson loves Mad Men and (as we know) loves BoK.
Back in the Kitchen where the Sausage is Made
- Hullaballoo introduces herself all official-like, as our newest BasketWriter, warning us that soon there will be postage. We can’t wait!
- We’re starting to update things with the new season. We’ll let you know as we do… but feel free to poke around as we work on the episode guide and the bible and the like.
- The celebration of the S2 premiere was a blast. It was literally a small group of us, each with our laptops (except for Albert, my best friend, who lives far away and so always misses my parties. So he came to this one, having only seen a few episodes. But I did manage to get him hooked… he was only going to watch a few, but made it all the way through Shoot–my disks–before he had to fly home. He’ll catch up on iTunes, but now he’s leaving us comments and shit! Anyway, he had his iPhone. He’s an iGuy.) Zeitgeist pulled the pork (sorry I made that sound so dirty) and Deb dirtied the martinis (try them with those giant capers and the caper juice… talk about Kisses!) and it was overall an awesome time. Look, we met these guys (zeit and Progg) at the Paley Center event we went to many months back, which we would never have gone to if we didn’t have this blog. This little adventure of ours called Basket of Kisses has already brought us so. much. joy. (more than a mouthful.)
- But we’re planning something a little bigger for the season finale. Stay tuned.

While I will readily admit to paying homage where ADT is concerned, to put my wisecracks in there company is a disservice. But thanks for the sentiment.

Hey girls (girls? Is that too politically incorrect? Too 1960?), thanks for linking to Professor Barnhardt’s Journal.
