Basketcase catches error!

Basketcase Jackie has caught a neat little error:

Noticed a goof. Don’s rustling through the Poughkeepsie Journal in the beginning as he’s about to take breakfast up. Poughkeepsie is a good 40 miles north of Ossining. The Drapers probably would have had The Citizen Register as their local paper delivered at that time.

She provides a link to a history of local papers, and I added:

Great observation, Jackie. (The Journal News is my local paper.)

Because Ossining is a pretty small town, I imagine a Yonkers or White Plains paper might be more appealing (I suspect The Citizen Register was a weekly, as so many of these smaller papers are/were). Tarrytown shares a border with Ossining, and it had a daily. Poughkeepsie is definitely too far.

  1. I was wondering if this was an error also — at Don’t Dr visit the nurse takes off the blood pressure cuff and there’s the usual “rriiiiip” like today’s velcro cuffs. But was Velcro being used back then? I tried some medical history searches and couldn’t verify.

  2. Interesting question. This article on the history of Velcro says it was invented in the 1940s, patented in the 1950s, and introduced to the market in "the early 1960s." So it's hard to say.

  3. Here's a goof that someone mentioned over on TWoP:

Juanita referred to Betty as Betsy Hofstadt, but last season, Betty's father was Gene Driscoll. What's up with that?

  4. We actually have that on the Betty "Bible" page. It's not technically a goof, though. Gene was referenced in the credits as Gene Driscoll, but the last name was never mentioned on-screen.

I'm going to give them the pass on that; if they didn't say it on-screen, it's not canon and they can decide to change it.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
